They aren't doing that. They will not mix USB A and C on the same computer. I am astonished anyone thinks that they would.

Oh lord help us! King madj has been ASTONISHED! We must fix this pressing issue! Someone please, write Apple and tell them to prove me wrong! For we cannot have our royal highness living in astonishment!

Well I guess we'll see but I'm betting you're going to become severely "ASTONISHED" on the 27th... Mm mm mm mm hmm... Mwa ha ha ha HAAAA... Ba ha ha ha! Ok, sorry...

I refused to buy a computer with one USB-C :)

and why would someone be opposed to computers pushing new standards? Don't confuse resistance to change to bad implementation by apple.

1) The world still uses USB-A, SD cards, and HDMI. This is just convenient. Nothing to do with fear of a new standard.
2) Headphone jack? Will it come with lightning? If not, their new headphones can't be used with the laptop. That's just poor product planning and poor integration (too early to point this out but no rumor if it will include a lightning port)
3) USB-C - I have no problem with the standard, but it's weird how USB-C and lightning are so comparable. Why not ditch lightning?
4) mag-safe2 - I think my laptop lasted this long because of this one cool feature. I would have broken my screen long ago if it wasn't for this great invention. So this will be missed by me! Maybe USB-C pops right out.. so who knows.
5) Poor implementation - Why wouldn't they do a phased in approach, why wouldn't they keep one USB-A so you can actually use the millions of devices.. Why use a direct cut-off approach.. Courage? Or sell more dongles

Lots of analysts and share holders are really questioning if Timmy should be at the helm. Steve wasn't perfect, especially his one button mouse sucked. But Steve's greatest error was leaving Tim in charge.

The idea of having USB A on the computer makes me cringe. It is embarrassing that people think that is actually a good idea or that it will happen. I am almost trying to tell if these people are trolling or something as that hasn't been a rumor, at all. There is ZERO reason to keep an A port on the computer except for backwards compatibility and they won't do that. My best prediction is that they will go for USB C on all computers including desktops, and lightning for all iOS/mobile devices and no more magsafe. At that point it will be pretty consistent. I don't really know why they are dropping magsafe but it is what it is. And yes, the cable that they shipped with the phone won't work with the computer. and yes, the headphones from the phone, won't work with the computer. It is already the case with the MacBook so that is nothing new.

It is expected to do away with the USB-A port, HDMI port, and SD card slot, featuring just four USB-C ports based on part leaks, and it is said to include support for USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3.

Does anyone have a link that talks about the 4 usb-c ports?

Haha damn, you must be pretty emotionally invested in your "predictions", to state that it's embarrassing for people to want the USB port. Get over yourself man. You're the only one in this whole thread who comes off as a prideful, pretentious person who is intolerable to other people's desires and opinion.

Suck those tears back in and loosen up on the conceit, princess.

Regardless who's right, it WILL be funny to rub it in one of our faces. So I'll make sure to keep you in mind.

I can't remember a single time when Apple would have redundant ports on their machines. If they go USB-C (which I hope they do), they will do it consequently. Yes, it will be a minor inconvenience at first (an adapter to USB is like 10 bucks), but will result in a much better experience in the future. BTW, external HDDs will be probably affected the least as well-designed ones already use an adapter cable to begin with. You'd just need to replace it with a USB-C one.

It is it can be used for storage expansion

Which is a really bad idea, unless you are ok with losing your data.

I am disappointed at the potential loss of the SD as well as other common connectivity options. I always assumed the "pro" was an acknowledgement to those of us needing a versatile workhorse platform. Seems a simple $35 raspberry pi could very well provide more built-in connectivity options than the MBP.
The Pro is just a name or brand it is not to be taken litterally all Apple products are becoming mainstream with some extra power for pros.

I tend to agree with what you said sd cards are not very reliable I use an sd card on my Mac mini to store my music and it is backed up by time machine I'm ok

C'mon Apple, blow my mind with a new, redesigned, smaller, revolutionary Mac Mini.

It could be a silent fanless device, but otherwise it could have a more powerful quad-core CPU with a powerful GPU. Integrated, or dedicated.

I'll definitely buy my first mac mini if they are not over the 800€
That's my dream too. I need to upgrade mine

I wonder if they're going to ditch Lightning on the next mobile refresh. It seems really odd to be adopting the standard on the laptops but not the mobile devices.

It would be really nice if everything was operating on a single cable and connector type. But man, this would have been the generation to do it. Kill the headphone jack and have USB-C take over. All those Lightning headphones are gonna be useless (or require a dongle) if they switch.

Also, Lightning sucks. The exposed pins suck. I really detest that connector.

This really bugs me. They should have bitten the bullet and replaced lightning with USB C. The latter is slightly thicker, but it shouldn't have a material impact on how thin they can make the iPhone. It would also allow headphone manufacturers to use a standard plug when transitioning to digital connectors.

Instead, we're stuck with this mess, where lightning headphones can only work on Apple phones, perhaps although possible not Macs, and you need separate headphones for your work PC, your home Mac and your phone. Bluetooth headphones you have to charge once a day is not the solution.

I welcome our USB C overlords, I've adjusted fine on my Retina MacBook. I bought 2 cables for around £10 combined (external HDD cable and lightning cable) that are USB C and a USB C dongle for stuff that can't use a new cable (USB sticks etc). Simples.

And forgive me for being blunt, but pros working with 4K video would be doubled over with laughter if you presented them with an SD card.

Hang on a minute - I shoot & edit 4k video from SD cards all the time & make my living from it (therefore I'm professional) - then again to be fair, I do laugh at myself all the time!

Just pray that Apple had not had the same COURAGE it had with the iPhone to do something very courageous on the MacBooks.

They won't mix USB-C with USB-A ports, not going to happen. In any case, USB-C is backward compatible with earlier standards, so at worst all you will need is a new cable or a small adapter/dongle.

As for SD being "not very reliable" you're going to have to tell that to the tens of thousands of images that I've taken with SD cards over the last 5 or more years. Sure, you don't want to use them as your ONLY backup medium but they are plenty reliable from my experience. In fact, I don't think I've ever had an SD card fail except for when it was physically damaged. There have been more than a few times when I've taken over a thousand images in a single day and it's hard for me to remember when I've lost even a single photo.

The biggest problem you're going to have with SD cards is from the drivers and the cheap hardware implementations that you may find from third-party hardware vendors. A situation that will be made even worse if Apple does remove the SD card slot from the MacBooks (since everyone will then have to rely on a third-party solution).

I can see no reason to remove the SD card from the MacBooks, it's a modern, evolving industry standard that many users probably find very useful. In fact, in a few years it could become the preferred solution for nearly all consumer-grade external storage.

Okay, so, the SD slot and floppy drive are hardly the same age. Not sure if you were aware.

Actually, the SD card was invented in 1999, and the 3.5" floppy was invented in 1984 - with the common HD floppy (the 1.44MB one) introduced in 1986. That places the invention of the SD card much closer to the introduction of the 3.5" HD floppy drive than today.

Just FYI :)
