Will this be 'the' Apple Car or is this like the Motorola Rokr where Apple just tried their hand in a new market with a JV just to turn up a few years later with their own production and blow everyone away?
I was just thinking that exact same thing!!

It’s crazy really, because Tim Cook first talked about the Apple car back in 2015 on the Stephen Colbert show. And here we are six years later, and production seems like it’s finally imminent.

I can tell you this, all eyes will be on Apple to see what type of momentum they can bring in to the EV world.

Apple plans to spend big on future products. It just had its biggest cash quarter ever and then borrowed more through bonds. Don’t think small, go big & different :)

Kia doesn't know how to design cars. Their cars are a hodge podge of design elements borrowed from other cars. That's where Apple comes in.
What? Have you driven a Kia in the last 5 years? I find they don't have weird gimmicks like some vehicles and are very well thought out on the inside. They even have lane keep assist (+40mph) as an option on some entry level models. The huge success of the Optima through the years as well as the Soul has really changed the game for them.

I’m ballparking their car to be about $250k.
Ahaha nope. This makes no sense.

The first Apple car will probably be a halo model, so expensive, but they will target Model S prices.

Then, they will develop a lineup to make it more and more affordable, as battery prices go down, think iPhone/iPod strategy.

Brand aside, how are they going to convince consumers to purchase this over a Tesla? By the time an Apple Car is released there will be an entry-level $25,000 Tesla, and Elon is sure to make any adjustments necessary to be more competitive.

I do see Apple producing a desirable car, I’m just worried it will be launched too late to make the impact they’re expecting.

Apple is late to so many markets and always came in priced higher than the competition. By the time they demo their car, no one will be comparing them to Tesla just like no one compares them to Microsoft or Samsung except Microsoft and Samsung.

I still can’t see Apple making a car. Just seems like an investor pipe dream.
I agree. I can't see them make a phone either. An investor pipe dream for sure.

Nothing says 'this is our first attempt' like Kia.

Maybe I am being harsh. Is Kia a premium vehicle now? Last I checked speakers were options.
I've had my Kia station car for 2,5 years now, and been very happy with it. It was by far the best offer for us when we got it. Even came with 7 years of warranty, and you can't beat that.

Apple makes great products, no doubt about that, but they should invest in making a next-gen macOS, take on the business world, which is still dominated by MicroSoft.

Safari (Big Sur) keeps throwing beach balls at me .. I would hate for that to happen when I'm doing 100 mph ...

I don’t know about in the US but in the UK Kia are now rated pretty highly. I’ve got a 2013 Cee’d with nearly 120000 miles on the clock and it has been the comfiest and most reliable car I’ve ever owned.

Years ago you'd have been right but their cars are very very good now. I was at the Geneva motorshow in 2018 and they'd paid for the first 'pitch' - it was huge and the quality of their cars is up there.

Lmao what?
Honestly the thought of Apple making a car is just weird to me. I wish they'd focus on fixing the things they already have. I'd never buy the vehicle anyways. I hate new cars. They're overly huge and they all look the same. I'll stick to my real cars with engines and manual gearboxes thanks.
