I don’t understand why some people are so confused by this. Kia would be a manufacturing partner for Apple. Foxconn is also a manufacturing partner. Apple has invested in Foxconn as well. Does the name “Foxconn” appear on iPhone or other Apple products? No, because they are a manufacturing partner, not a co-branding partner.
Because there is one major difference - Foxconn is mainly producing and assembling products for other companies and their business model is based on this. Kia create products for the consumer and has their own brand in the consumer market.

Apple/Samsung? Is that not similar to Apple/KIA

I wonder if this figure is what it would take for Kia to convert a couple lines to Apples specifications. Especially if they are only going to try for 100k cars the first year. With the hire of the chassis guy of the Cayenne I am wondering if this is going to be a SUV instead of a sedan. Maybe a Macan fighter?

I can just imagine how much of a lead Tesla will have built in the EV space by 2024-25.

There are 5 rules of Apple Car.

#1 You are not allowed to talk about Apple Car.
#2 You are not allowed to drive Apple Car even if it exists as Apple Car only drives itself.
#3 Apple reserves the right to deny anyone entrance Apple Car or attempting to drive it.
#4 If you add a spoiler, radio, or dancing Hawaiian girl bobble toy on the dashboard to Apple Car, you will void the warranty of Apple Car.
#5 See Rule #1.
#4b If you add an aftermarket exhaust that sounds like a lawn mower on steroids to Apple Car, you will void the warranty of Apple Car.

I've had a Kia for years. Nothing but problems. Maybe I just had bad luck. My brother's kia is also a trouble maker. Both cars were new. Never ever Kia again ;)

Apple should have bought Tesla when it was cheap. But then who would ever want to work with Elon...

Setting aside that Elon gets things done. That’s not what happens when one company takes over another. The old CEO doesn’t stick around.

I suspect Apple is out of ideas and will squander billions on this pipedream. Use the money to bring work to the US and more consumers will be able to afford the products with higher wages.

Not at all.
If they were looking to buy an electric car manufacturer then it should be Rivian.

Rivian are coming out with 2 models, plus a van which is seeing massive sales to the likes of Amazon.
With Rivian they could get in on both the domestic and commercial sales.
Rivian also have Ford as a large backer, so it seems very possible that Ford maybe assisting in the dealership rollout.

Hopefully kia just handles the production and apple designs the whole car instead of ripping one off of the kia lineup.
Apple will have to use one of Kia's platforms as a base. The proposed $3.6 billion investment wouldn't cover the costs of developing a dedicated platform AND a factory to produce it. That would be in the neighborhood of $10 billion plus.

It's all coming together one step at a time. All negative, sarcastic people making comments on Apple EV; Apple will quitely make it happen and with love Apple will say right in your face. So, get on the side of anyone who helps against the climate change further ruining our earth/environment like Elon Musk's crusade. More EV on earth, more time we can have to fix the earth climate change.

Nothing says 'this is our first attempt' like Kia.

Maybe I am being harsh. Is Kia a premium vehicle now? Last I checked speakers were options.
Kia make great quality cars. It doesn't really matter if they're premium as Apple would specify the materials, what matters is that they're built well and Apple would make enough profit!

(I have the e-Niro and it's fantastic.)

Samsung manufactures panels for other 3rd parties. Kia doesn't really do much for other 3rd parties although some might consider Hyundai a 3rd party.

Also you linked earlier to a JD Power and Associated article for reliability recognition. Here is fine, but don't ever do that on a car forum.

When did you last check out a Kia? They used to be a budget brand, not anymore, Check out the tech they have on their latest models, you get an awful lot for your money. Sure the German brands still beat them but you are paying at least double to get a similar spec.

What do we know about Hyundai's battery tech? why isn't Apple bringing their own tech to the table?

A self driving car that can be hacked in real time. Just Super 👍🏻 If anything goes awry Trump will be blamed. “Only Apple could do this.”

You clearly have some research to do. Kia has been making excellent vehicles for years now, and the standard list of features is very generous...
