The shown bezel does include a hole for a front-facing camera that is a widely expected feature of the iPad 2.
The whole is exactly at the spot were the iPad 1 has its ambient light sensor. This makes me suspect that this is just something to 'pimp' the original iPad and nothing related to the iPad 2.

Yuk! I would much prefer sexy coloured annodised aluminum iPads then a plasticky white one, especially since their computers seem to be dropping white completely. Maybe they'll finally use their morphing led shell patent where the shell changes colours!

This won't be to my taste. I can imagine them doing this though. I bet they've spent a lot of time and cost trying to get a White iPhone to work, so there will be a White iPhone5 and White ipad2.

White iPad ... yeah well what a lack of ideas ...

Checklist for new product.

Faster processor CHECK
Small changes at case CHECK
Retina display ... NOPE

ah, we can make it white CHECK

Without camera?

Looks like the white one comes without camera! Maybe it will be announced but will never come like the white iPhone 4.

Why is Steve torturing himself trying to make this white iPhone/iPad happen? White handheld devices are hideous.

his ego. He never likes to hear that he has been conquered by anything, let alone white paint which has been used in electronics for years but some how won't work on an iStuff. It infuriates him.

...

the issue with the white iphone according to Woz was the proximity sensor and the camera if the flash was used. Since the ipad has no proximity sensor, and the back will likely not be glass even if they put a flash on the rear camera its a non issue for the ipad

I say fake. With all of the other rumors pointing towards a thinner margin around the screen, this shows a thicker one. Perhaps this is a prototype or an after market replacement but I sure doubt that it will be the new one...

The iPad 2 better have Facetime HD like the new MBPs.

That would be nice... along with a flash and autofocus.

Forget white -- I think a paisley iPad would be great!

There are numerous other possibilities to consider. How about Zebra stripes or Leopard spots? Perhaps a desert camouflage? Cartoon characters: Goofy, Betty Boop, Popeye, Olive Oyl... Classic film stars: Sophia Loren, Bette Davis, Betty Grable, Clarke Gable, Judy Garland, Mickey Rooney, Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe, Sonia Braga, Groucho Marx, Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, Alfred Hitchcock, Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn, George Burns, Catherine Deneuve, Ava Gardener, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Lucille Ball... Mythical Creatures: Godzilla, Mothra, Dragon, Hydra, Minotaur, Unicorn, Cyclops, Poltergeist, Sphinx, Leprechaun, Mermaid, Beelzebub... World Leaders: Hirohito, Mussolini, Stalin, Nixon... Deposed Dictators... Mass Murderers... Computer Languages: Cobol, Fortran, Pascal... Diseases: Jaundice, Leprosy, Cholera, Yellow Fever, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Gout, Plague... Collect them all!!!

But best of all: a chameleon case whose design adapts to match its surroundings.

Doesn't apple have a behind-the-screen camera patent? If they use that technology on this iPad, then that would solve the issue of where the facetime camera should go by always being in the middle. I remember talks of it with the nano.

Form before function...can see ACE totally doing this.

Another observation: The digitizer connector is at a different spot. On the iPad 1 it was on the top left side, and on this supposed 'iPad 2' it's on the bottom left side (all orientations stated with home button at the bottom)
iPad 1 screen

That makes it impossible to be a replacement for the iPad 1 screen. So either it's an elaborate mockup, or it's the real deal. If it is the real deal, they could very well replace the ambient light sensor with a camera (which would suck up battery while doing the same thing) or use the behind-the-screen camera.
