I'm certain the Mini 7 will drop by year end. How do I know? Because I bought the 6 two months ago!

Kidding aside, I got tired of waiting for Pro Motion and came to the conclusion that Apple's probably never giving us 120Hz in a non-Pro device anyway. I realised, albeit a bit late, that it was silly to keep waiting in vain.

The screen absolutely sucks on the current Mini 6, and I presume that the Mini 7 will have the same crappy display, despite a faster chip and still give me a headache if I even glance at it. The Mini 6 single-handedly took me out of the Mini market for the foreseeable future. In the meantime, I will hold onto my Mini 5 with my cold dead hands.

ProMotion is VERY subjective. There are people who see it on every device and then there are folks that don't see it at all.
For me personally I do not see a difference on LCDs/larger devices (e.g. MacBook Air vs. Pro or iPad Air/Mini vs. Pro) but I can totally see the difference on the smaller OLED screens of iPhones.

Concerning the news: I hope it to be true. I'm waiting for the mini 7 and hopefully a price adjustment like with the iPhones in Europe. The price for the mini 6 ist just ridiculous after Apple raised it in October 2022 (current 3rd party retailer prices are still higher than the MSRP when it was released in 2021).

i don’t think i can go back to non Promotion device after using iPad Pro and iPhone Pro for years with ProMotion. Give some love to iPad Mini Timmy, been waiting for years…
That's so strange. ProMotion breaks my brain, I really don't enjoy it at all. I have the same reaction I had to The Hobbit in High Refresh rate. But they MUST fix the jellyscroll somehow.

I would much prefer a screen upgrade to a CPU refresh. The iPad Mini 6's screen's jelly scrolling is quite noticeable to me and the colours and overall screen quality are just a bit mediocre overall. In a device that is essentially all screen, that's kind of a big deal.

jeyllyscroll is a MUST to be fixed for 7 no explanation needed, whoever approved the display for mini 6 should not be involved in Mini 7.

The Hobbit in HFR and 3D was a bad combination watching in cinema, i did not enjoyed it as well.

While promotion would be a great improvement, at least A16 would give it 6GB RAM and A7pro 8. That would be a big improvement for safari, as 4GB reload too much.
I doubt that it will get Stage Manager though, because of the lack of an official keyboard.

forget a better screen on the Mini. They couldn't even put the same screen on both size Pro models....and yet still call the smaller one Pro. Enraging.

Interesting to see what chip they can squeeze into the Mini. M chip with fewer and/or downclocked CPU/GPU cores or stick with the A-series chips.

I think something was scheduled to get the A17 chip that was stripped from the even earlier this month. The event was an odd length and also was odd that the only A17 chips released were the "A17 Pro" chips. So yeah, might have been the mini or the base iPad.

I'd actually like a super-cheap iPad 7 that does only one job. Act as a second screen to an iPhone.

When out and about, I can use my phone but be able to display output to an iPad. Just to provide more screen area for more extensive reading which isn't so much fun on even the best phone. Maybe use the phone's own screen for a keyboard!

I'd rather this approach than a super-expensive foldable phone.

I really think this should be refreshed at the same time as the Air, and should basically just be a smaller version. Give it the M2 when the Air gets the M2, give it the same cameras and price it the same as the Air - then when you’re buying an iPad you are doing the decision tree of:

Base iPad? Y/N
Step up? iPad Air/Mini for M processor, Pencil 2 and better cameras (also Air has compatibility with a keyboard, don’t expect the mini to get that)
Even more step up? Pro (I’d love a mini-pro but though I think it would be great, it’s not something I’d buy)

Pls just give me Apple Pencil support on the iPhone so I can scribble 🥺

Digitimes forecasts: often wrong
Ming Chi Kuo: the best(?) of the prognosticators who gets paid to do so?

My bet would be with Kuo, meaning 2024. Why? If one was coming, it would almost certainly be an October event/press release and how many rumors of this are flying as of Sep 25? And what else would make up an October event? I very much doubt an M3iMac though I could see an M2 one. Roll out the lone M3 Mac now and create the psychological effect that all of the other Macs (and upcoming Vpro) are "old tech" reversing how iMac is viewed now as the only one with "old tech" inside. M2 would just get the last holdout brought "up to date" and still make sense vs. an M2 Vpro releasing in 3-6 months (else that one would need to switch to M3, which is also plausible).

There's that iPad Air update rumor.

Otherwise??? Seems like crickets. Accessories going USB-C seems they would be on a schedule of when their existing inventories get low enough and then the USB-C versions just take over as Lightning inventory sells out.

Is M2 iMac, updated Air and Mini enough for an hour or two Campus video event? I think not. Is it enough for a press release (updates)? That seems favorable if anything. However, as of Sep 25, I'd expect flurries of rumors about all 3 now: colors, cables, features, photos, cases, etc. Where's that flurry?

That shared, anything updated is always welcomed. Bring on the new as soon as it is ready.

The base iPad should have been updated to A15 and the iPad mini A17

If you made this iPad dependent on phone, you'd still be paying the "super-expensive" to Apple... only for 2 pieces instead of one... and then one would be towards useless without the other.

IMO: better to let iPad Mini Next continue to be it's own thing (no phone required).

For your scenario, how about putting the Apple iPhone app on the Mini Cellular so it can double as a super-sized phone (buds with mic instead of holding it up to owner's ear)? I already do exactly this with third-party VOIP apps, effectively making iPad Mini stand in for iPhone and it all works just fine for my purposes. iPhone's VOIP app would bring all of the iPhone-like integration vs. using third party. Of course, Mini's much cheaper pricing would disrupt super-size profit for anyone who chooses it INSTEAD of iPhone (like I have for many years now), but since we're both dreaming...
