Apple is planning to release new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models in spring 2027, reports Bloomberg. No major design changes are expected, with Apple focusing on internal upgrades.

The iPad Pro models could use either M6 chips or M7 chips. Apple will introduce the M6 chip as soon as this year in an updated 14-inch MacBook Pro model, but it is aiming to release the M7 chip in the first half of 2027.

Bloomberg does not specify which chip Apple will put in the iPad Pro, but if the M7 chip is ready by spring 2027, the new iPads could have the upgraded chip. If it's not ready, they'll use the M6. Both chips will be built on Apple's new 2-nanometer process, but the M7 has AI optimizations that the M6 doesn't have.

Apple has also tested a vapor chamber cooling system that could improve performance.

Little else is known about the new iPad Pro models, but if they come out in spring 2027, Apple could introduce them alongside the iPhone 18e, iPhone 18, and iPhone Air 2, devices that are also slated for spring 2027.

If Apple wait until 2027, they might go M7 or they could go M6 if supply is more available. TSMC has sold all of their 2026 N2 "2nm" fab capacity and are said to be almost sold-out for 2027. With Apple also needing N2 for the A20 and A20 Pro, they might have to juggle supply of all three SoCs for a time.

Will probably be M6, otherwise the economies of scale and recoup of NRE costs of designing M6 don’t make sense.

Adobe still refuses to give its iPadOS software feature parity with desktop, so my M4 iPad Pro goes massively underutilized. I don't understand why you even need a spec bump at this point.
spec bumps for iPads are not for people who have the last couple of models, it's just nice to have if you're coming from a much older device and want or need to upgrade. Continuously improving on the product is better than just saying "ah well, it's good enough as it is, let's keep it the same for five years". if -say- your M4 iPad Pro gets accidentally dropped and is destroyed by that, or gets lost, wouldn't you be glad to have the choice between an M6 iPad Pro and an M4/M5 iPad Air over having to shell out for another M4 three years later?
