I still remember the announcement five years ago (and the exceedingly cringe video that is better left unmentioned), thinking "there is no way I will ever use the full power of an M1 on an iPad.

Five years later... I was right. Love my M1 iPad Pro though!

Was expecting to see the new Pro iPad around the same time as the iPad Pro usually gets updated in around 18 months. Maybe the iPad Pro will once again be the first device with M7. Think other than a chip upgrade nothing much will change. The prices could also increase by another $100 to $200.

Hopefully it has the M7 as I’m due for an upgrade next year from my 12.9” M1. Mainly have been wanting to move down to the 11” size and get OLED. But at these crazy new prices, I’m waiting for it to go on sale. I don’t think I’ll be buying many Apple products at launch anymore.

I have a feeling the M6 is for iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, while M7 is for MacBook Ultra, and they’ll keep it a chip generation ahead, so MacBook Pro might be on an autumn cadence and get the M7 this autumn, while MacBook Ultra gets updated to M8 the following winter or spring. And of course it will be the higher end version.

I’ve used both the M1 and M4 iPad Pro models (with 8 GB and 16 GB of RAM, respectively). After using iPad Pro for many years, my biggest takeaway is that the software and apps still lag far behind the hardware. As a result, I’ve never been able to fully take advantage of what the device is capable of.

In practice, I mostly use it for handwritten note-taking—something my MacBook cannot do. Beyond that, I find it falls well short of being a true primary computing device.

At this point, I no longer see much reason to buy an iPad Pro. If I were to purchase another iPad in the future, I would probably choose the least expensive model along with an Apple Pencil. And if MacBooks eventually gain proper pen support, I might not even need an iPad anymore.

I’m not upgrading my m2 until it has even more ram than the 16 that I already have. Since Apple is limiting the best features by chip instead of by RAM I’m not “upgrading” until I KNOW my device will do all features. Not that I care about Siri voice customization, but I firmly believe dictation has gotten worse recently to push m4 and better off on owners of older devices…

Apple is planning to release new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models in spring 2027, reports Bloomberg. No major design changes are expected, with Apple focusing on internal upgrades.

The iPad Pro models could use either M6 chips or M7 chips. Apple will introduce the M6 chip as soon as this year in an updated 14-inch MacBook Pro model, but it is aiming to release the M7 chip in the first half of 2027.

Bloomberg does not specify which chip Apple will put in the iPad Pro, but if the M7 chip is ready by spring 2027, the new iPads could have the upgraded chip. If it's not ready, they'll use the M6. Both chips will be built on Apple's new 2-nanometer process, but the M7 has AI optimizations that the M6 doesn't have.

Apple has also tested a vapor chamber cooling system that could improve performance.

Little else is known about the new iPad Pro models, but if they come out in spring 2027, Apple could introduce them alongside the iPhone 18e, iPhone 18, and iPhone Air 2, devices that are also slated for spring 2027.

I upgraded my 2020 iPad Pro A12z to a 2025 M3 iPad Air.

I could be wrong but any iPad with an M Chip is going to do the job.

Are they any people out there who have work flows on their iPads that require more raw power outside of just flexing?

Because in my opinion iPad OS is still the bottle neck even though iOS 26 did make a lot of changes to allow the iPad to work better as a laptop.

Still, nowhere near as versatile as a Mac.

One could argue that the iPad Air/Pro is more versatile than a Mac though with its modularity with the MKB and also the fact that it has iOS and Mac OS functionality, as well as Pencil support. I agree you can do more tasks overall on Mac OS though for sure.

How is this a rumor. Only 1 of the last 6 didn't last approximately 18 months. And that was the A12z model which was just a minor spec bump on the A12x, while they were working on the M-series transition.

This is the expectation, when this happens it won't be something that Gurman got right. But if this doesn't happen it should totally be held against fauxstradamus.

I really like it. I know there are mixed reviews on foldables here, but this is my favorite. We will see what Apple releases.

Thanks! I got really close to buying the Global N6, but the Find X9 Pro is still too new of a purchase for me. The Find X9 Pro has been an excellent phone, no complaints.

The Find X9 Pro looks like an amazing phone!

I got my Global N6 from Trinity electronics in Hong Kong. Ordered on a Wednesday, arrived that Friday in the US. Crazy how importing is so easy now.

The iPad update I would like to see:

iPad Pro 11 inch and 13 inch models

  • M6 chip with 16GB memory; upgradable to M6 Pro + 32GB memory + cooling system

New 14 inch model ”iPad Ultra”

  • Increase display size while slimming down on the bezels. 13 inch model goes to 14 inches. This would keep the same size footprint roughly while increasing screen size.
  • Touch ID power button
  • Add better palm/finger rejection for the decreased bezel sizes.
  • M6 Pro + 32GB memory + cooling system
  • New Magic Keyboard with 2 USB ports, SD card slot, headphone jack, HDMI port, fully aluminum, bigger trackpad, integrated speakers, feet like MacBook Pro, integrated battery for extended battery life, Touch ID button on keyboard like the Mac
  • Can run any third party Mac app

iPad Air / Mini

  • M5 chip upgrades from M5 iPad Pro
  • Pro motion display

Base iPad

  • M4 chip with 8GB RAM
  • Uses previous gen Magic Keyboard
  • Add Apple Intelligence support

My m1 iPad Pro is ok but shows its age on daily use, plus my keyboard folio case looks very old and used, with peeled off bits everywhere. However, it makes no sense for me to buy a new folio when my iPad is 5 years old either, leaving upgrade the only viable option.

still rocking the 2018 11" model 😃
with the latest price hike the pro model is so expensive
I just want a newer iPad with a better screen than the old one, so the Air is no option currently
Same here my 2018 iPad Pro was still going strong. However it’s old and battery life keeps getting worse also had a small crack in screen that surprisingly has not gotten worse over the last year.

I bit the bullet the day Apple raised prices and got a reasonable deal on Amazon for a 512gb LTE 11” M5 iPad Pro for $1279. It now retails for $1599 with Amazon selling it for $1499. I didn’t want to go with the Air as I am spoiled by the better screens on the pro models and Face ID is so much more convenient.
