I was just at the Apple Store in Boston (Boylston Street). Apparently they were processing pick-up orders just fine, though they were required to stand in line, too (a line which consisted of roughly 90% Asian...).

Interesting, but very annoying and frustrating sidenote: They apparently started to distribute 2 contracted and !5! uncontracted iPhones to each customer.

The result was simple: 5 Asian at the top of the line claimed all iPhones while none of the rest of the approximately 60 people got any...

Highly frustrating...and very unfair, if I may add.

Ordered mine around 2:45am, got my pick up ready @ 7:15am. Thinking of heading up there around 11am to skip the 10am crowd.

We already bought the phone, it shouldn't matter when it's picked up. I'm assuming they will at minimum hold it for the entire day.

Are you headed to the Towson store? Let me know how the pick up goes, that's where mine is.

Really? I wanted to get mine at Towson (since I'm there today) but it showed no availability so I'll be picking mine up at Montgomery Mall. Still, will let you know how that one goes

So funny - My preference was Montgomery, but I ended up with Towson!

Pickup

I ordered mine last night and received the initial email but I haven't received the "ready for pickup" notice yet. I'm on the west coast, the store opens at 10am - strange I haven't received the pick up notice yet and I cancelled my pre-order too. Not going to be happy if I get screwed on this deal.

I found the whole process frustrating. At 10PM I tried several times to place and order, but was not able to select pick up at a store. I used my iPhone and it worked saying the Towson MD store had the 32GB black in stock. I started the checkout process, but it still appeared to want to ship me the phone, so I gave up. Since it was about 11:30PM, I decided to call it a night. Woke up at 4:30 AM and my shopping cart was still on my iMac, so I clicked refresh and now the pickup in store option worked, but the only store I could find that had one was in Washington, DC.

I'll try again tonight. Since I'm off tomorrow, I may just show up at the Towson store and see if they have any available for walk-ins.

Is the time frame PST? I've read through a bit of this thread. I know some of the Apple people said it's your local time but it doesn't seemed to have worked that way for anyone.

The system started working just after 10pm PST, it was not in your timezone as some were thinking last night.

Report it to Apple. The limit is 2 per person

I got my confirmation email this morining. Currently at work hoping to pick it up after 5. They assured me that if I got that email I can come pick it up at anytime. I've just had bad experiences with people selling things I've preordered and I hope apple's integrity is legimtate enough to not do the same.

Yea the Boylston street pick up was open around 1:10 pm. I went to bed and checked my phone and rushed back to the computer. Preordered and got an email today, waiting to pick it up, hopefully they didn't sell my preordered one.

I asked the person who distributed the cards. She shrugged and simply said: "That's how Apple handles it right now."

"You do realize that they are going to resell their devices and not using it, right?"

"Yeah."

Great...

I'm sure that the person that distributed the cards is getting some extra $$$ for allowing this. Apple's policy said limit 2 per person since the iPhone 2G (first generation). The online limit was 5 few months ago but now is 2.

was on line at 10 pm and nothing. went back at 1 am and still nothing. saw people giving up and at 1:08 hit the reserve button and BINGO!. Picked mine up in KOP @ 11am. They had all no information, asked for my driver's license purchased applecare and went back to work...Yippie

I know. That's exactly what I thought. :( Me and 59 other freezing Apple customers...we were very disappointed by Apple Boston.

I had nothing but issues with the online process. Called a few Radio Shacks today and am now all set and up and running. I called my Apple store this morning and they said they did not have any and did not know when they would get any. The guy pretty much sounded like he was sick of answering that question - which is understandable.

Hopefully there will be some Verizon phones in AZ tonight!

Same. Waited all night and checked both Tucson and Phoenix... It went from October 30 (before 10pm) to "not available" at 10pm then back to October 31.

There was a radio shack that had stock?

Yes - he had a 16gb white (i wanted black, but am actually kind of digging the white). they were actually very helpful and asked if they wanted me to have them transfer one in from another store.
