I'm in CT and my (let's just say) good friend tells me that 7am everyday they have extras for ppl who walk in....everyday. Sooo I was told if I can't preorder for pickup to just go in at 7am? Anyone heard of the store open then in your area...btw the store in speaking of us in a indoor mall....

Well considering the Apple website lists all CT stores open at 10AM or later, no I haven't heard of that store

I'm thinking of stopping by there around 8:15 am , I know the malls doors are open but wondering if apple will be..I do realize they all open at 10 but I was told to try my luck as a walk-in at 7am from a apple employee ...so I was wondering of this sounds foreign. :)

Well, there are three indoor malls that have apple stores in them in CT, would be helpful to know which one you were referring to
 
Are you ATT??? Because if you are... you might be in luck.. the ATT corporate on Niagara falls boulevard (the one by the 290) has it in stock!! I checked there today and actually that's all they had ..the 64GB

Yes, I am AT&T...I will try and call the store this morning. Not going to waste a trip out there ( i live and work in Niagara Falls) if they dont have any.
 
Order each phone separately

Also not sure how to add more than 1 phone to the cart as I got a warning about only 1 phone with activation per cart but multiple unlocked phones are allowed, which is strange coz we can't buy unlocked phones yet in the U.S.

I encountered that last night.
Turns out its a known Apple Store issue.

You just have to order each phone separately.:)
 
Ordered mine @ 10 p.m. local time last night. Got the email about 7 a.m. ready for pickup. Went to the store and picked it right up @ 10:00 a.m., no wait. Thanks everyone for the info.
 
Pre-Ordered but want to cancel

Hi.

I pre-ordered mine on Sunday, the 16th (I know, I was late). Estimated shipping date is Oct 10-16th (even though at the time of purchase, it said 2-3 weeks).

What can I do to get a phone earlier? AFAIK, I can still cancel my pre-order, but I don't want to risk losing my place in the pre-order line.

Would I be able to order with personal pickup? When I enter my phone number for eligibility verification, it says I am no longer eligible (probably since I have a pending order).
 
That's what I'm doing. This morning I was told in the store that I could buy the phone with a new contract online and then they'd cancel it when I picked it up, and charge me the full price.

Please keep us posted how that worked out when you go pick it up. I went through the activation (hopefully they didn't really pull my credits just for that) and added 2 phones to my cart, but they are not available for pickup anymore, so I'll try tomorrow. Im in the UK, and have put in a reservation for my closest store two days running without an email :(

Anybody having any luck with this system at all?

I wonder if I could just try and do multiple reserves.. say, a Black 16GB + Black 32GB in the 5 closest stores to me.
Would that be allowed I wonder?

I just returned from the store with my new iPhone 5! It was a bit convoluted but basically they did a "cancel/refund" and then I bought the phone with no contract. When I plugged it in, iTunes told me it was unlocked so that's good :)

No activation fee on any of my receipts.

So how are folks checking inventory at their local Apple Store? Is that only viewable after 10pm I take it?

From their wording on the website, it seems you can either try the online pick-up option, or you can try to just show up at opening and they may have inventory available on a first come first serve basis.

Question is, if they show online inventory and that whole inventory gets snatched up, is the walk-in inventory included in that or are there separate inventory for the online thing, and the walk-in thing?

My understanding is the inventory is one in the same and this program is to prevent walk in customers. Although this is just my interpretation and has not been confirmed anywhere that i've seen

From 10pm - 4am Local time you can check stocks once you have the phone in your cart.

Ordered iPhone 5 online last night at 10:00 and requested to pick up in store today when I checked out and instructed by Apple. After waiting half the day for the notification that I could pick it up, I then called Apple and the night mare began!!! After forwarding my email confirmations to them (a manager), they could not locate my order through my confirmation number, credit card number or anything. I was advised that they would research it and call me back...well, they didn't call me back but rather sent me a "Order cancellation"!!! Really Apple...how did you cancel an order that you couldn't find!?!?!? Oh and my upgrade was used so had to contact AT&T to get that reversed also, then after I contacted Apple again about my refund, they had to call my bank to reverse the charges that they luckily did find. Mighty Mighty Fishy Apple and I've owned every version of iPhones & iPads you have ever put out. Needless to say, the manager was able to call the Apple store and have one held for me to buy directly from the store. In closing, do not trust their online purchase to pick up in store because they, as always, don't have all of the bugs worked out of the system.

Wait, why is it charging you $400 when it's on AT&T? When you order with the pick-up option, you order just like any other method right? You pick your carrier, plan and so forth?

Also, does anyone know if you have to have the primary account holder PRESENT with you when you pick it up if the order's put through online?

We didn't qualify for the full upgrade price so that was the partial upgrade price. I didn't have to be present with my daughter although I'm the account holder, just make sure you have the account holders last four of their social & their billing zip code.
 
Does anyone know how long they will hold the phone for you when you preorder for store pick up? Will they hold it at least until close? Thanks

Sorry ...west farms ...went today and the line was 2 blocks long at 8 am filled with ppl buying 2 phones who already had one ....for resale on eBay or whatever....and mind u they weren't giving any phones till 10am ...they opened at 7 and had a workshop...I left I wasn't going to stay without a garuntee that I will walk out with a phone...roll on 10pm
 
okay im getting ready to hopefully reserve a 16gb white tonight at 10, im in New York.

i checked yesterday at 10:40 and all stores were out of stock,
