Just because this option is available doesn't mean there is inventory available, hence the no pick up option.

Then why bother to turn it on? Or at least tell you up front if there's stock rather than going through the whole dang process for nothing.

I tried it as well as going through the normal buy process and the URL's are identical. If you look at the screenshot from the macforums post, the blue button actually says "Reserve". But I'm not sure where that screen shot came from.

I just checked. The "reserve" button can be seen on the U.K. website.

I wonder if the process is simply not active yet and we are all just undergoing the normal order process.

At this point, it looks to me as if indeed we are again punished for being on the east coast. Let's hope it will change soon...

everything appears to be working, its more than likely that there is nothing in stock. again, if i switch the model to a 4 or 4s, i can pick any number of nearby locations.

Sometimes, I feel like we get punished for living on the East Coast.

Only in this case, and because Apple is (thankfully) a west coast company.

Usually we get screwed. Award shows? Re-Broadcast here after spoilers have already made the news sites.

Saturday Night Live? Not live for us.. and censored :(

For once the best coast gets the advantage. Yay.

Is the stock based on what they'll have the next day or what they have by the end of the day? If it's the latter, then it's very possible they have nothing left!

Mine says:
Pick up: Visit an Apple Retail Store. Limited quantities may be available

on the cart screen :(

Just spoke with a representative online. Was told this:

Do you think you can just leave it in your card and periodically return to the cart to see if the option becomes available, or do you have to go through the whole process each time just to check it? Also, I wonder if the system is actually running your credit every time you go through the process.

My message now says:

Pick up: Inventory updated nightly at 10 p.m. Currently unavailable at null.

That's exactly what I was thinking about doing; leaving it in the cart.

I can only assume that your upgrade is not used up or locked up until you actually purchase.

I tried full price and subsidized. Neither allows it right now.

What do you mean exactly when you say you tried full price? Is there anywhere you can actually select full price? I for one thing haven't been able to find that...

My gut says it's a glich, late launch or PST, because why would they launch this if they had zero inventory?

Well, I am actually going in as a brand new line of service (not an upgrade) and it is asking for all my credit information (driver's license, SSN, etc.) just to put it in the cart, then it says "Checking eligibility". Hopefully it isn't hitting the credit report every time!

I had to choose a line that wasn't eligible for an upgrade. Otherwise I couldn't do a full price purchase.

Same with me. Which is why I'm hesitant to input my information since I already placed an online order for a new line of service with AT&T earlier today (before I saw this thread).

Was wondering the same thing. I've already popped in my SSN three times. Hope it's not doing a credit check each time.

The option for "Pick-up" is still grayed out for me as well. Hopefully someone at Apple flips the switch on this...
