A deleted Safari is the snappiest Safari of them all
That’s not cross-platform iMessage. That’s a multi-protocol Messages app.iMessage is cross-platform when it falls back to SMS, and soon RCS. Just without all the extra fancy features.
That's a Hobson's Choice though.The EU is making a mess of Apple's carefully-crafted ecosystem.
Consumers *always* had choice. If they didn't like Apple's model, they go buy an Android. That choice is not being fixed by this DMA. It's just trying to turn iOS into Android, and that should be illegal.
Except that setting is turned off by default, and many of my friends don't even know it exists.iMessage is cross-platform when it falls back to SMS, and soon RCS. Just without all the extra fancy features.
What sort of friend are you not handholding them about its existence? Do they need you to teach them how to read, look up what features their phone has and RTFM?Except that setting is turned off by default, and many of my friends don't even know it exists.
Yes but youll still ( until now) be using webkit ( safaris html engine), going forwarg IIRC in thevEu you wil actually be able to use browsers using third party engines. As thing where before DMA amy alt browser on Ios/ipados would just be a shell arround webkitAren’t we already able to delete Safari and choose another browser as default? I can pretty easily get rid of it through jiggle mode.
That’s exactly what will happen. The EU is actually trying to kill Apple, or at least merge it into Android. Will the EU eventually decide Apple is required to support the installation of Android or other operating systems on Apple devices?
I know, right? Like I should be able to demand that Ford put a Hemi in its Mustang and have an offering of paint-to-sample bright pink.A closed ecosystem. Where you have no choice. It’s so weird that people in the US are so against freedom and choice nowadays. People in the EU are still enjoying the EXACT same ecosystem as before. But have the bonus of more options, which they can ignore.
And that's the beauty of it.I can't wait to see their statistics of how many people don't use any of this.
And that's the beauty of it.
There will be options if there is something specific you'd like, but also wish to stay with Apple for the 95% of the time.
But for those odd few things, or a very few folks who wish, there is an option without them needing to scrap everything Apple just for the 1 or 2 things they would like.
iMessage is cross-platform when it falls back to SMS, and soon RCS. Just without all the extra fancy features.
All I want to know is, will these changes make my device in the USA any less safe?
Now imagine if, say, dairy only restaurants were government forced to offer meat as well. Some people don't want restaurants like that. Go to the other one instead of forcing them.People seem strangely averse to "options"
I really don't understand it - at all
Apparently going to the restaurant and being force fed from only the Appetizers menu is somehow desirable for all meals at all times.
iOS will become a cesspool just like Android very soon if the EU keeps pushing. Can't wait to see Samsung's bloatware and the various garbage launchers.
Zero chance of that happening, and the EU said iMessage isn’t large enough to be forced to open up.Open up iMessage or make a Windows and Android App for it
Will the EU eventually decide Apple is required to support the installation of Android or other operating systems on Apple devices?
This is a very apt comparison. Henry Ford was well known for saying that you can buy a Ford of any color… as long as it’s black. Companies that adapt to the consumer thrive. Those that don’t die. Ford was forced to adapt since people did want other colors. But nobody but consumer demand forced that change. The last thing we want is for government to come and and demand Ford offer pink because… reasons. The DMA is forcing change for… reasons, not because there was a demand for those changes. Let the customer decide. If customers demand Apple open up, they’ll lose market share and will be forced to adapt or die. If the consumers don’t want it, why mess things up?I know, right? Like I should be able to demand that Ford put a Hemi in its Mustang and have an offering of paint-to-sample bright pink.
I really don’t care, alternative app stores don’t mean anything to me.So many new and great features for EU customers and no US customers here feeling their iOS version is falling behind modern times?
Believe it or not, they are staying with an inferior iOS version with less features.
We aren't averse to "options", per se. We're averse to meddling governments egregiously forcing their wills onto products we WILLINGLY purchased, (while being fully aware of the limitations) without taking ANY consideration into potential consequences.People seem strangely averse to "options"
I really don't understand it - at all
Apparently going to the restaurant and being force fed from only the Appetizers menu is somehow desirable for all meals at all times.
Your analogy only works if only two restaurants exist (with a high barrier to entry in the market) and the other one sells all you personnel data when you cross the door. Now imagine if, say, dairy only restaurants were government forced to offer meat as well. Some people don't want restaurants like that. Go to the other one instead of forcing them.
