Let the Rumors begin again

Let get this started: I see yes, perhaps in the next year, an iPad with 4G, forward, backward and FLIR 756 megapixel cameras, Fold space technology for interstellar communications, a neutronium case, sapphire touch screen, and fusion batteries. Oh yes and a crystal lattice memory core with 145 teraquads of memory. with a quantum tachyon Illudium Q-36 possessor. And it comes pre-loaded with all of the bootleg tapes for the Grateful Dead.

This is the first time for many years that Apple has decided to offer a live video stream of their media events
To my knowledge, this is also the first time Snow Leopard was listed as a requirement to watch a video stream. ;)

I find it extremely amusing how no one seems to understand what an open standard is.

It doesn't mean it's automatically implemented on every platform and device possible using some magic forcefield.

wow this is awesome! This could be a number of things in my opinion.

Maybe since they have been building more servers and such this could be a test of what they can capably do. This would be a thousand times better to have fail versus a product launch. Again there WILL be thousands... perhaps millions streaming this. Why do you THINK live streaming ended??? Well lets see if apple's servers can take it, they obviously think it can!

Perhaps this is a big marketting scheme. Release a big online service such as Itunes in the cloud. As soon as anyone says "But steve. . . your servers?!?!" he can smugly laugh "but young one! there's already thousands of heavy users this moment." which of course assuming its working smoothly for everyone, the streaming users would be wow'ed as it'd be true. They are in fact using it already.

Or we are all way overreacting and apple just wants media attention and/or as many eyes viewing this product launch as possible.

so i can't watch the stream if I'm not on Snow Leopard? Isn't Safari, um, Safari?

And Quicktime X is, um, Quicktime X and Leopard doesn't have it.

To my knowledge, this is also the first time Snow Leopard was listed as a requirement to watch a video stream. ;)

And to my knowledge this is the first large scale HTTP Live Streaming event.

Why do you assume that there will be a lot of traffic?

Because that was the reason they stopped streaming in the first instance. Too much traffic = high bandwidth costs = the end of live broadcasting.

...and they weren't even as popular as they are now then.

Very cool news... but I expect it won't run smoothly. Apple has tried this before and it hasn't ever worked out. It is much more difficult for them to do this due to such a remarkable interest in the video (way more than a Google press conference, to those who might try to make a comparison).

But hey, maybe they've got the hardware to pull it off this time.

But before they didn't have a giant area 51 sized server farm in NC. ;)

There are 2 reasons they are doing this

1-They can show the strength of their North Carolina data center
2-There won't be 570 MiFis in the room so Steve can do the demos!

Open format, but requires a Mac?

So, we can't watch it on Windows or Android devices? :D

Technology sweet heart, technology... Do not despair... I'm sure that you cannot watch this in a 1970s mainframe computer either...

Besides, every one -including you- knows that android is a subpar os...

This would be a thousand times better to have fail versus a product launch. Again there WILL be thousands... perhaps millions streaming this.

i HIGHLY doubt there will be at least a million let alone tens of thousands of people watching this. there are not that many people mired in the world of apple

I think Apple is going to unveil their revised cloud strategy and DC. And worldwide live streaming to a large audience is a great way to demonstrate the project that I have been working on for so long.

I hope they stream it in high bit rate 720p and 1080p too, how else will be see the retina detail :p

I bet they will be using Akamai to help with the massive amounts of people who will be streaming it. At least I hope they do.

Incidentally, I wonder how many Apple fans would have paid for a live stream into previous media events? I suspect the company could have made a nice chunk of change if they were capable of reliably streaming these events in the past.

I CANT WATCH THIS EVENT BECAUSE I DONT HAVE SNOW LEOPARD
WTF!!!
i have 10.5.8

this frikin sucks
can anybody tell me how i can watch it without the need of snowleopard
