Possibly, but they have to obsolete the 2010 model first. Still hanging in there with mine!
Thanks. I just installed an SSD on mine and it feels like new, blazing fast. Seems like such a disappointment to hear that it will be 'vintage and obsolete' by Apple in the next year - it's more powerful and almost as fast as the current-gen Macbook Airs and 13" MBPs

Turn off iCloud? Not deal I know but might be a solution for this annoying problem :)

she uses her ipad too. feels like i'd be doing more IT work for her if she turned off iCloud.

Sounds more like user error, or a cloud error, rather than being related specifically to the iPhone 4 model.

nope. i restored her iPhone 4 from backup. her contacts re-appeared.

then few weeks later she gave me her phone and said "look at my contacts". the list was completely empty. I checked Settings -> iCloud -> Contacts and it was enabled. I checked her account on iCloud.com and her contacts were there. Her iPhone 4 however showed that the contacts suddenly went blank. I restored yet again to her iCloud backup and the contacts came back. every few weeks this happens.

her iPad never had that issue. I upgraded her to an iPhone 5 and then an iPhone SE, both of those devices never had an issue.

maybe not entirely an iPhone 4 issue, but likely devices with low memory + using iOS 7 (so the iPhone 4 + 4s)

...while the late 2010 MacBook Air...

So if you buy a brand new MacBook Pro NonRetina (introduced late 2012) in the next few weeks from Apple chances are that your Mac will be obsolete in two years?? LOL

Apple should be flogged for removing support for any model of Airport Extreme or Time Capsule since they haven't updated the hardware in over three years. I suppose they want owners of those devices to run out and buy a three year old model?

*crossing fingers this means a new router is soon to be released*

Not sure I get it. The iPhone 4 was cut out of the loop ages ago. It's stuck on iOS 7.1.2, released in June 2014. It was already obsoleted in all the ways that matter. So what's with the future tense? It's like issuing a death certificate 2+ years after the funeral.
This is less about software than it is about hardware. (no more out of warranty repairs)

The 4 was the epitome of Apple design and innovation. A completely epic device that they have not been able to match since. Coincidentally it is also the last device that Jobs had any say in (really - the 4S was of an incremental improvement).

The 5 felt flimsy by comparison, the 6 WAS flimsy and the 7 is a total yawn-fest.

Whew, I made the cut one more time. :) Mid 2010 27" iMac still running strong.

Likewise. I know it won't be long until it finally gets the kick but it'll be a real shame when it does, I use it for everything and see little need to upgrade.

Although HTML5 Netflix support would be nice.

My Late 2012 iMac (first 'thin' one) is just on 4yo and doesn't feel it, at least not being 1 year away from 'vintage'. My mum has a late 2011 MBP, got a boost with an SSD, feels like a new computer.

There once was a time where not only could you gets parts from an authorised repair centre for "Vintage" products, but you could even purchase AppleCare for products out of warranty period.

Sign of the times, there are "no serviceable parts" in a lot of these devices, therefore, newer products will not have any parts available for them.
Throw away society would not be so bad if Apple gave something for disposing your old stuff via Apple... even if it was a "thank you" for being an Apple customer, here is $10 credit for iTunes or something... anything. The iPhone 4 is worth nothing to Apple as an "upgrade"... and surely even the aluminium in the macbook might be worth a few dollars?
Apple are always touting their commitment to the environment, then they should give incentive to return old stuff to Apple.

Don't upgrade your macbook lineup except for every 2 year, but in fives obsolete them. Nice logic

I do have iPhone 4 with shattered back plate. I already don't use it anymore due to poor game performance.
But um, it is always sad to see it go.

Waiting for the day the products they are selling are that old they class them as vintage
Their classification system is 5 years = vintage, and 7 = obsolete.

The reason for this is that the warranty ends at five years in all states, with the exception being California at 7. Apple does this because the state of California says their products have to be serviceable for 7 years with a specific stipulation that you are actually in California. When a product reaches obsolete, that means that Apple in no way will perform any kind of service work on it.

Apple! Great at discontinuing products. How about actually making them? I'll go back to the Apple store when I'm in the market for a fancy looking watch band. Oh that's right. I don't wear a watch.
Well in that case you're also not a customer for Rolex, Tag, Cartier et al

I had this weird thought: Tim wants us to save money and keep using our computer to the maximum...he cares about us saving money.
