You Jobs' Knob-Gobblers better enjoy your circle-jerk session while you can -- the rest of the world wasn't as thrilled about the presser today.

Hell has frozen over.

In all seriousness though, I found all the numbers pretty convincing of Steve's points. Far fewer phones have been returned, which I think says everything. Very few people are experiencing this issue.

Not so fast, because of the media, people may have just been waiting for info. The numbers really don't depict facts.

since when has 100% been considered a "very small proportion"?

Every single person can duplicate this, it is a design flaw.

It's unlikely that the iPhone has any different a design flaw than nearly every other phone out there. Many, many phones loose signal when held - it isn't just an iPhone problem. It's just that no one cares a whit about these other phones.

And I know of several people that have never experienced a problem with their iPhone, so it isn't 100% even at that.

They are - because when Apple sees how rapidly Android is overtaking IphoneOS Apple will be forced to respond.

;)

There's a lot of Apple haters that would love to see this happen, but the reality is that Android only has market share right now because of the cheap phones that use it. Apple still has the mind-share, and the iPhone still outsells any other given Android based phone by a very wide margin.

Wait until the iPhone is out on Verizon - Android will have a tough time closing the gap then too.

I think this is all fair. A 100% refund if you still don't like the phone? I wish I could get that kind of refund on my Mazda.

Why does it matter? The phone hasn't been out 30 days. If you need to return it, return it now.

the person asking the question wants to know if it really likes the iphone4, it is not sure...

may be this person is waiting for the masses to tell it that is and cool to still have an iphone4...

So, how long have you have you been this brainwashed????

Yes, Steve Jobs "cares about YOU" and his feelings "are hurt"...

Pathetic.

Say what you want. I didn't say that he cared about me personally, nor did I claim to be a fanboy. I have an iphone... hardly an apple fanboy. I like my iphone... but have no illusions that it functions any better or But I do believe in integrity and honesty. They are two virtues I care deeply for. You on the other hand are being the opposite of constructive. And there are others on this website doing exactly what Jobs said offended them at the press conference an hour ago... which is what "hurt" his feelings. That's all I pointed out. You misunderstood.

Again, say what you want. Be how you want. But maybe you should take a good hard look in the mirror and tell yourself to grow up a little when you're done crying. It's easy to sit on a computer and lash out at people you will never meet. It's much harder to do the right thing... which is lost on your generation anyway... don't know why I even try. I just get sick of everyone complaining all the time. If it's not the iphone, it's the app you paid $1 for. If not that it's your macbook. If not that it's that apple doesn't allow flash on the phone...

You scour the internet looking for something to complain about. It just makes me sick because you never stop. It's depressing to see the level of degradation in consumerism. I am a happy customer. If you want to call me pathetic.. fine. I really just do not care. It's no skin off my back.

Life isn't always fair. You have to do the best with what you have. I see apple doing that... but I see you still complaining. So, you tell me... how should I respond? According to value, or according to your definition of fact? You may be annoying... but I hope you aren't stupid, too.

Here's an idea, how about Apple build this protection into the next iphone so we don't need a case in the first place? Never understood this.

Good luck trying to apply reason. Even "loyal" Apple "fans" has bought into this BS bandwagon. Kinda redefines the saying "with friends like these..." Well, you know the rest.

I think that's the press release coming up when dell announces its hardware and software superior to apple. I think Steve will be there to kiss their feet too. </seeth sarcasm>:apple:

iPhone 4 = if you liked it, then you should've put a ring on it?

In all seriousness, though - from what I'm reading, it looks like I have to *return* the 3rd party case I already bought, then "buy" a new one to get it free? Since I bought it from Best Buy the day after I got my phone, rather than through Apple?

I think this is fair. I still have a 3GS and I have always had a rubber case protecting the sides and back anyway. BUT it just occurred to me that Jobs several times states that "we'll evaluate on September 30th" in terms of free bumpers and so on. He said that is response to questions a couple of times. Anyone think that they figured our a real hardware change on the models shipping AFTER that date? Maybe they figured out the issue and have a real fix that won't be ready until phones released after that date?

I also thought that. I'm like you on the sidelines, I have my 3GS, got it last July, so I'm stuck (based on AT&T's page) until next Feb if I want discounted pricing... maybe it will be 2nd rev tech. I honestly think this issue is blown way out of proportion though... If I got a 4, and didn't feel it was capable of handling my calls, I'd return it and reinstate my 3GS, a bit disappointed, but not angry.

You think that they actually lose THIRTY USD for every case they give away? The bumper is probably worth around thirty cents.

No, I said profit. They lose profit... I don't care what it costs to manufacture.. a nickle, a dime? Whatever. They lose earnings. So yes, they lose 30 USD every time they give one away, because that's what they make on one.

All seems pretty fair to me, they presented the facts, made an offer and tried to set the record straight against some of the rumour and hysteria that has spread.

not enough, most folks want to down apple... do not know why...

Summarize some folks in this forum:

1. got iphone4, was really happy,

2. someone told me that I had a problem with the phone, even though I do not notice, do not care, and still am happy with the iphone4

3. I can return the iphone4, or get free case, but I still do not know if it is cool to own an iphone4,

4. ok, I'll keep the iphone4, get a free case, and still join the 'class action sue' to see if I can get something else from apple...

5. and if i am a so called 'journalist' or blogger, put a lot of bad press to get folks to know my name on account of the iphone... good deal...

(note: no data necessary, I just get any old rumors from any idiot down the road and relay those as truth)

+1. I always thought the same. Everytime I get in the Apple Store and see the 500+ cases for iPods, iPads, iTouchs, etc, I cant stop wondering why? Why do you need one to begin with?

Then I had an iTouch for 15 days and it scratched! Big Engineer failure when selecting materials I guess.

Imagine if we need a 'case' for everything else we buy in life?

This isn't true. I tried to duplicate it once I heard all the stories about it and I couldn't. No matter where I touched the phone or how much I covered it up. So whether it is because my area has stronger signal or what not, I don't have this problem.

man... who cares about a droid...

I am yet to meet an acquaintance of mine that has a droid. Every one that I know has either an iphone or a free nokia with a $20/month deal.
