I appreciate Apple. I believe Steve Jobs when he says that he and his company care for their customers and will do everything in their power to ensure an amazing user experience. For those of you wondering if there will be a "secret new design" after September 30... you are morons. And you are doing exactly what Steve Jobs and the rest of the Apple Execs openly admitted to being hurt by today. Hope your proud of yourselves. You are the reason a great company is giving away 90+ million dollars. (That's $30 times 3 million, for those of you who are bad at math) And what they can't provide for themselves, they are going to pay for from 3rd party vendors.

To me, that speaks volumes of the integrity and sincerity of Apple. That they would be willing to give away that amount of money just to please you. Keep in mind that this hurts their second quarter earnings statement, AND remember the fact that they are a business ultimately interested in earning a profit... although it seems that they put customers over profit. Facts are facts and they speak for themselves. Most of the threads I've seen about this are filled with complainers who are dishonest and disrespectful. The phone works like it should. Few people have been actually affected by the signal issue. FACTS, people... they are all that matter. Hearsay is not doing a thing for you.

Seriously, you people who have done nothing but complain since day one. I am SICK and TIRED of your pathetic excuses and complaints. STOP. You sound like children. Phones aren't perfect. Apple isn't perfect. People aren't perfect. Get over it. It's a phone. Seriously, get over it. Take your free case and shut up. If you don't like it, well you have 3 or 4 days to return it still. So, take it back. Get a droid for all I care, although I've read some pretty awful stuff about that phone too...

Do anything you want, but stop sobbing over the internet about a phone that, in my opinion, works fine. Better than I expected. If you expected perfection you are delusional and should probably see a shrink. Seek help. Or Grow up. One of the two, but for the rest of us that are happy... do it FAST. I will not have my pleasant user experience diminished by a cry baby moron.

Here's a thought... all of you people out there who are not really having a problem with the phone's signal and reception... why don't you skip the free case. I will not be applying for a free one, because I was going to buy one anyway and I am happy with my phone. Why cost a good company more money? So, if you are happy, show your support and leave the whiners to their lame bittersweet victory.

Wow. Just... wow. You are the ultimate fanboy.

I am sick and tired of all the Apple fanboys protecting their beloved Steve Jobs over this travesty, let's get things into some sort of perspective!

Apart from the antenna issue most reviews say the iPhone 4 is the best smartphone ever which has some great and unique features like the retina display.
The fact that only a small percentage have complained is clearly down to intimidation by the Apple stormtroopers (I know they exist) and the threat of humiliation on various Apple biased blogs.
Anyway, as Apple's design is so great elsewhere, they clearly f***ed up the antenna deliberately because really they hate us all and they're laughing at us! Even now as you're reading this! They even have a fix for the antenna on hand, but will refuse to release it until iP5 when they'll add another fault, just for the hell of it. The b******s!

And all this on the same day that those "heroes" at BP finally put a cap on the leaking well, which is all pretty trivial really, I mean oil's great and runs my car and it was only going into the sea, so no real harm...I mean I'm not a fish, I don't care, it's not like it's as important as my phone or anything. I wasn't planning to vacation on the Gulf anyway, and if I did it would be cheap now so well done BP is what I say!
At least they're not trying to ruin my life like Apple are. Honestly, making me use a free bumper or even worse giving me a full refund!! Outrageous.

I say that we should have a ticker tape parade through NYC for the "heroes" at BP whilst each and every Apple employee is crucified along the side of the streets.
</sarcasm>

Ha ha love your sarcasm. If fish voted, do you think the oil problem would have been fixed sooner? It's a rhetorical question.

Macrumors shut down this post now! We got soo many whiners out there l Ike babies. Majority of customers don't have a problem with their iPhones. Just like those unfortunate people who live in LA they have to deal with smog and earthquakes. People who live by nuclear plants they are just unlucky. If a free case and or a full refund is not good enough for you then take a step back and look at yourself. You guys expect the world to be served to you on a silver platter. Well don't !!!!!!!!! This stupid grude you have against Apple is childish and the least of your problems. They have built a strong reputation and loyalty throughout all these years and so why should it be hindered by those who complain and expect the world. Why? There is nothing you can say that will justify your greediness and ungratefulness not to mention ignorance of how blown out this issue has become. Nothing! Your defensive behavior will certainly get the better of you and we all know that. But just realize this, everything that I said is true and any animosity from this point forward is sheer ego repairing and Mac haters trolling. Look at yourself and think

Your right, nothing "feels" as natural as going without a case. But shouldn't you be concerned about protection? There are cases out there that are thinner, that can give you that natural feel. You just have to find them.

HA! Hahahahaha!!! :D

If you don't have an iPhone 4. Shut up.

If you do, either return it or jump off a bridge with it.

Why the silly attitude? Apple's products are sold almost on all image and design so when that is flawed customers questions the product. When the design works it's amazing and magical; that also gives that when it doesn't work it isn't amazing and magical. It's just that for the most part they give us amazing products so we stay.

real constructive. thanks for adding to the conversation.

Was it constructive to call anyone that was satisfied by the solution a "ho"?

Great job though.

There is a stark difference between criticizing the product and criticizing the users. I'm getting pretty fed up with the latter.

I'm amazed at the amount of positive votes on this. The free bumper is basically a tacit admission of guilt on their part of the phones fundamental failings. It's true that other phones loose reception when the antenna is covered, but unlike the iPhone it requires the user to hold the phone in a completely unnatural position.

What a LOAD OF CRAP

Some people do NOT want a case on their phone it hides the look and kills the feel they like.

I'm getting a DROID instead

You need to know that nobody believes posts like yours. Listen to the antenna song and talk to the hand.

You think that they actually lose THIRTY USD for every case they give away? The bumper is probably worth around thirty cents.

Get a garden hose, turn on the water at some moderate pressure. Don't put a nozzle or anything on it.

Block the end of the hose with your hand. Observe, very little water comes out.

Now, instead put a kitchen strainer on the end of the of the hose. And then cover the strainer with your hand. Observe, more water comes out.

Due to the materials your hand is made of vs phone casings, your hand will block more of the signal. The more room between a signal and an obstruction, the more time/space it has to spread around the obstacle through less obstructive materials (air, plastic, etc).

I believe water behaves rather differently compared to an electromagnetic signal. First of all, your analogy seems to suggest that you're talking about sending and not receiving.

Secondly, if we accept that we're talking about sending, you're suggesting that a signal will travel up through the plastic and "escape" through an area that is not covered. That is not the way I've been taught that electromagnetic radiation behaves, but I admit I only have a first year physics university course. I'm by no means an expert.

Thirdly, I don't accept evidence by analogy. Could you point me to some resources that support your assertion? You know, actual physics resources. I have a colleague with a masters in physics who can undoubtedly explain it to me.

Really, you knew everything I was saying before I said it. Just say either you don't like apple/iphone as a personal preference, or you're bored and like the feeling of being enraged on an internet forum. Don't pretend like you're actually attempting to seriously reason out an issue objectively as if you've done any research or careful assessment of the information.

I'm not really enraged. Why would you get that idea? I'm just interested in science, and I can't, for the life of me, find a reasonable explanation for this issue. It's not pretense and it's not an attack. Yet you seem to think so and I'm not sure what I can do to change your mind. That is, of course, your prerogative. However, your reaction does make me take you less seriously.

How original!

Wouldn't recommend it

I wouldn't recommend going to a Droid from iPhone. I have one and Android is not as intuitive or polished as IOS 4 (far more geeky than what bloggers lead you to believe). The physical keyboard i crap and I barely use it.

It will take sometime to get used to the UI as it not as intuitive.

If you are thinking about the Droid X instead of the original Droid, be aware that the screen is barely legible in sunlight. And there a huge hump for the camera which will not look good in shirt pocket or jeans (if you fit them there).

I like how some people blame Apple for putting "form over function" and making the iPhone 4 "pretty" at the expense of reception quality, yet think that the free bumper case is unacceptable because it prevents them from showing how "pretty" their iPhone 4 is...

Actually, this is a mute point. You have 30 days from the date of signature to annul your contract w/ AT&T. You can return your phone and walk away from the contract w/out obligation.

Get your contract info from the guy who doesn't know the difference between "mute" and "moot"!

Psst...Droid switchers are actually doing Apple a favor.

Ditto ;)

Plus I get a free case with it now, just saved $30, and all I had to do was wait for other people to complain enough

THIS!
Further reassurance of why I will never buy a product at launch (Especially in line for hours), Even though it's Apple :apple: . NO company is perfect and this "situation" proves that.
