iDisk: Slow, tiny amount of storage
Me Mail (on iphone): Slow to retrieve & send
Calendar: Wouldnt load half the time
Gallery: Never really used as tbh its not something I would personally have a use for
Bookmarks: I use Xmarks - free

Until you've tried MobileMe outside the US you cant comment on its reliability. From the UK, its 100% pure crap. I'm on a 100mbps fibre connection in a low-usage area. Its not an issue on my end.

I've used MobileMe for a year and a half. I'm in Canada. Have a 5Mbps connection in a high traffic area. My MobileMe emails send and retrieve as quick as anything. Calendar, Contacts and MobileMe Gallery work perfectly. I have never had an issue with any of these features.

iDisk and BTMM used to have issues but both cleared up around last December and have been functioning quick and painlessly ever since. I cannot even remember what the iDisk errors used to look like.

I'm not denying you had problems or that Europe may have (had?) issues with the services. I can only comment on my own experiences. Personally, I am very happy to continue paying for MobileMe, but I hope to see it become partially free for all iPhone/iPad users since I believe mobile syncing and Find my iPhone should be part of the basic iOS package.

For those posting about only one Google Calendar syncing...that is wrong! Through the new Google Exchange, I can sync as many as I want and currently sync 4 without loss of data and it is all LIVE sync.

As far as contacts go...all fields match up perfectly with the iPhone and I have lost zero data on any records to include Birthdates and Anniversaries. Again, it syncs LIVE and does not require any lame syncing through iTunes.

I do not care if I have to pay for a service or not...this is not the reason. What I care about is being ripped off by huge fees when one does not use all of the services. Like I stated in my previous post...If Apple would establish tier pricing and let us pay for what we use and not one price fits all rip of scheme, then I would gladly pay a $25 a year fee plus $10-15 per extra iPhone for FindMyPhone and Wipe. I just do not use or like the other Apple stuff that is forced on me, thus my reasons for termination of my account.

Same goes for AT&T and charging for tethering...If they were to offer more Data for the extra tethering fee, then it would be reasonable but when they charge you for tethering and you still only get your 2GB then that is a rip off.

All of those that keep fooling themselves that it is reasonable and just feed in to their scheming and feed their coffers...no problem, it just won't change and it won't get better...they are getting the money from the majority of the fan boys right now so they will continue to give you the same garbage and not update any native apps or mobile me offers until you all start saying something with your wallets. No skin off my teeth, I have found alternatives that work just fine and I am happy with my decisions as are others that have posted the same feelings as I have.

Enjoy your ways, and don't come crying here when things don't change, stuff is not updated and prices increase...LOL

If they offer a free tier, I would guess it would include syncing of Calender and contacts (maybe a @me.com account). Find my iPhone and picture gallery would be appropriate in a free version as well. But I would think the 20GB of iDisk and the @me.com account would be the benefits of a paid account.

I would say this is the most accurate of 176 posts.

How about as part of a AT&T contract there is the ability to get MobileMe part and parcel with owning an iOS on a contract plan? it would be a great way to differentiate between Android/WP7 and iPhone/iOS without needing to enter into some sort of price war.

Slick ;)

How do you find the service in terms of speed, reliability etc? iDisk is awful. Its so slow no matter what time i tried to access it.

I've never had any problems. I don't usually access it from the internet, though. I mostly just use it for a back up, although I sometimes access files with my iPod and have never had any problems.

I highly recommend it. Plus, it's free.

Find my iPhone and .Mac email really are the only reasons I still pay for MobileMe. Free or even tiered options would be nice.

This. I only use the service now for find my iDevice. Total waste of cash until I lose something that is.

If mobile me gets free does that mean that a those spam losers now can send their virus, viagra etc with @me.com accounts

MobileMe getting free seems a bit more likely as a german forums reader pointed out, that the MobileMe service frontend tells him, that he has a "Standard (for free) account.

See here.

Hey good find! My subscription ended 3 months ago and i didn't renew but if they offered a cheaper/tiered option i would take another look at it

I don't think I'll switch to MobileMe unless they offer Back to My Mac and iDisk for free because Google already provides me with free Exchange push synced email, contacts, notes and calendars. I didn't even have to configure an extra setting on my iPod touch or Mac, just setup Google's Exchange service into the necessary Mac apps and then the Push Accounts pref. on the iOS device and away you go. I can change, delete or create any info on my Mac or iPod and it's instantly pushed away; this argument that MobileMe is vastly superior is simply untrue.
Plus, it's no more difficult to set up than MobileMe, and it's $119 (AUD) a year cheaper.

And I don't get these comments that are dissing GMail, there's nothing wrong with it at all.

lol .. I hope this was meant to be a joke, otherwise you need to learn a lot about how spamming works nowadays.

Seems to be some sort of complementary account he got ... the support guys told him it is an free account for employees. Doesn't necessarily seem to be related to this story, more to the questionable source he bought the account from (my interpretation).

Google currently offers all that for free, and it works very well over the air on the iPhone I might add.

I find the speed more that adequate, although I haven't tried to transfer files larger than say 10Mib.

I'd take MM just for the Push email. My current ISP only supports POP or IMAP without Push. Waste of battery to set frequency of checks even at hourly. Could check manually, but that defeats the purpose.

MobileMe maintenance?

The MobileMe site is down. Is this anything to do with the free MobileMe rumours?

If I have a MobileMe account now on a free trial and MobileMe becomes free before the trial ends, will I have to pay? I hope not!

Odd that people have had so many problems with MobileMe.. When Apple had their server-end issues we all suffered, but otherwise I've found MobileMe rock solid here in the UK, the email is super fast, the bookmark syncing instantaneous etc, as it should be for a paid service.

Since it was fixed after the me.com relaunch the only problem i have had is with iDisk. The rest of it has been fine

Syncing calendars is perfect for busy families. I wouldn't need it just for staying in sync with my desktop either.

My Google Apps system works so well for syncing up family calendars over push!

Seriously wish I could see this in action somehow. I've read this thread and watched any little videos google has (none for MM) but still want to actually see how it's done so I can get this type of setup going too.

I really hope MobileMe does go free, I'm hoping to enter the iPhone world soon and it would be really useful to have the features such as find my phone and iDisk.
