For me, these announcements "events" not only by Apple but by everyone are getting extremely boring. It used to be exciting back when the products lines were new and the updates would be more dramatic. But these days where most product updates are just boringly incremental, I'm not sure we need to get bombarded with these things from all over the place.

I mean, the new iPad being slightly smaller and slightly faster seems like a press relase to me. :)

Is anyone elses ATV not showing the event? iv tried reboot with no joy :(

Is it because im not on the latest firmware?

Im in the UK if that makes any difference:confused:

I'm in the UK and can see it fine. Check if you need to update in your settings.

Wouldn't be the greatest marketing if that's all they did...:D

yay.... streaming :) just what we always wanted/

I only hope now, it doesn't go away for future...

Neat homepage on Apples site...

It's marketing.

If there's no free Mavericks, 4th gen Apple TV, iWatch, and 12" iPad i'm going to buy a Commodore 64

They could limit the store to browsing at least though, with a notice on the checkout saying something like "Please note that purchases are currently on hold due to X conference. We'll be resuming orders at X time. Your shopping basket has been saved for later."

Shouldn't be hard to do really.

.

It actually is that hard really. I run my business via my website (not self-promoting so I am not posting a link) and I use a highly reputable web hosting service and while I can block sections on the site during site maintenance there's no way to limit people to do certain things on the site. I either have to shut off certain areas on the site or completely close down the site for maintenance. It's not that big of a deal, it's not like Apple keeps the site down all day and since anyone coming to the online store to order is not in any major rush to have their product immediately surely they can wait a few hours for the site to back up. No point in having the store just for browsing if they are updating the store with new product right?

I love how everyone is so excited...only to be disappointed because of false and lofty expectations.

The key to preparing for these events, is to expect little and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised. :D

Exactly says the party pooper. I'm sure most people here that are used to what Apple gives at Keynotes knows what to expect but it's still exciting when Apple has a product announcement. Why ruin everybody's fun with your.....logic.:p

Looks like you will be getting one... as Apple won't announce any of this stuff.

Better start looking now on eBay.

Might do you good to wait until the product is actually announced before you pass judgement....or did you just want to poop on it regardless?

I have two ATV's and I don't see this on either one. I updated my software, rebooted and still don't see this event. Any ideas?

This is what the town hall looks like:
Image

When I was at university, we had lecture halls smaller than that - they had 3 ceiling mounted cameras pointing at the stage, with a remote edit suite. There's no real reason why Apple can't do the same. Blaming it on the auditorium size is a bit silly of them.

Maybe by small he's talking about resources and not size.

Had the same happen, updated and it appeared, however I think a restart would have also done it.

Well, if it is any consolation, I'm not getting it on my jailbroken ATV 2 which is stuck at iOS? 5.0.2. However, I look at that as a small price to pay for the benefits of the additions.

They still filmed it, how could you possibly think it had anything to do with camera placement? It probably lacked space for serious streaming equipment.

It's so they can cut it when/if things go wrong, since they're mostly playing with beta software.

OK, I'll just cut and paste what I previously said two hours from now. :D

Note that I'm not saying it's a bad product in any way, just that I'm getting bored with big marketing events for small scale upgrades. And come on, we ALL know exactly what's going to be announced already.

yip, as soon as i updated it came up.

This Keynote is going to mess with my mind.

The Mini is the perfect form factor but I couldn't put up with the non-retina screen - but then the 5 will have 64bit and the latest and greatest features. It's going to be so hard to choose.

Pfft, you missed out! I brought a mini and love it. I think many people forget that because the mini has a smaller screen, it has a higher PPI that the iPad 2. I purchased an iPad 2 and sold it because I couldn't stand the screen.

I tried an iPad 3 and took it back within a week because it was of no use to me. It was too big to take with me everywhere and I had a macbook pro at home which I used. My mini though is the perfect size.

I'll be more worried that a retina screen in an iPad mini is going to make the battery life take a hit. For me, the hardest choice would be regarding the new form factor of the iPad 5 and potential touch ID in either device. 64 bit is more about future proofing. If you keep your iDevices for 5 years, choose the 64 bit model. Otherwise, don't worry about it for now. I think I'll probably just keep my mini if current rumors turn out correct.

I know the feeling. I'm still waiting for a killer feature in an iPhone since the iPhone 4 which I'm still using. I had an iPhone 3GS and upgraded to the 4 because I appreciated the drastic improvement in speed and perceived quality. Despite the numerous additions, I'm still waiting for something other than the fact that my 4 is getting slow now to make me really want to upgrade.

My apologies if I came off as being a Debbie Downer. I'm just a cynical old fart whose been let down too many times!
That said, I'll be glued to the TV like the rest of you, for the next couple of hours. :)

We get excited about things that are new/different, and there are so many gadgets/announcements now that it's more and more difficult to be new and different. If you were to take any recent gadget announcement and show it 10-15 years ago (iPhone 5S, iPad 5?, new games consoles, Google glasses, smart watches) it would blow the audience away.

So launches like this probably have less impact than they used to, but companies still have to try and generate as much interest & hype as they can, particularly knowing that their competitors will do so with their products.
