Apple to Overhaul Mac Lineup With 11 New Models

Apple is preparing to refresh every Mac it sells over the next two years, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The plans come amid a Mac resurgence, with sales projected to climb for a third consecutive year, partly thanks to a growing following among users who lean on the machines for demanding, agent-based AI workloads.

The wave of new Macs will begin this fall with a refreshed entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and the first new iMacs in two years. Here's everything coming, according to the report:

  • Refreshed 14-inch MacBook Pro (entry-level) (Fall 2026): Among the first Macs with the new M6 chip; codename J804.
  • Mac mini (timing dependent on memory supply): New model in testing with M5 Pro and M6 chips.
  • Mac Studio (timing dependent on memory supply): New model in testing with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips.
  • Refreshed iMac (Fall 2026): First new iMacs in two years; codenames J833 and J834.
  • High-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook (End of 2026 to Early 2027): All-new design with an OLED touch screen; M5 Pro and M5 Max chip options; codenames K114 and K116.
  • Refreshed MacBook Air (Early 2027): 13-inch and 15-inch models similar to the current machines; codenames J913 and J915.
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro (entry-level) (2027): 14-inch model resembling the high-end K114 and K116 design but with a standard M7 chip; codename K104.
  • Refreshed MacBook Neo (timing unclear): New budget laptop using an A19 Pro chip and more memory; part of a periodic refresh cycle with new colors.
  • Follow-up high-end MacBook (End of 2027 to Early 2028): Successor to K114 and K116, moving to M7 Pro and M7 Max chips.
  • OLED MacBook Air (2028 earliest): A future version of the MacBook Air with an OLED panel, implicitly with a redesign.
  • OLED iMac (timing unclear): New iMac model with an OLED screen, matching the technology coming to MacBook and MacBook Air.

Development of the refreshed iMacs and the entry-level MacBook Pro is reportedly complete, though the machines aren't expected to ship until the fall. The high-end MacBook with the OLED touchscreen remains the most notable model on the roadmap, and Apple is said to be testing it internally with macOS 27.1, which is scheduled for release at the end of October.

The Mac mini and Mac Studio have become popular among users running AI applications thanks to their processing power, but demand has been outstripping supply and new orders for some current models reportedly won't ship for at least three months. Apple CEO Tim Cook said in April that it could take "several months" for those machines to reach a supply-demand balance. As a result, the timing of successors to those machines is currently unclear.

timing could be right, I buy kit when the current kit fails or looses security upgrades (fail means system no longer does required tasks)
 
why have the new ultra MacBook Pro with the same chip as now, so we have to wait another year to get the faster m7 max chip
 
While an OLED iMac would be nice… I’d want that device to have a 27-inch screen. Even more importantly, iMac buyers should have the same chip choices as those buying a Mac Mini. That means base and Pro-level. And Apple shouldn’t even think about updating the iMac, at this late stage, with anything less than an M6 chip.

Very much hoping that OLED MacBook Air in early 2028 has a completely, and I mean completely, redesigned chassis.
Come on, Apple, it’s a MacBook Air. Let it be a MacBook Air.

It has had the same basic weight and thickness dimensions since about 2010, right around 2.7-2.8 LB and 14-16 MM thin at its thickest point, or in the case of the recent MacBook Air, the entire thing.

Between it having absolutely no fan, it having a dramatically thinner OLED display, and all of the advancements that have happened since 2015, there is absolutely no reason it shouldn’t be in the ballpark of the 12-inch MacBook. Obviously a little bit wider, simply because it’s likely still going to have a 13.6-inch display, but it should at least be under 2.5 LB and around the thickness of the recent Apple Silicon iMac.

There’s really no excuse at this point; at one time you could say it was because of price, but now we have the MacBook Neo to fill the low-price slot. Let the MacBook Air be the thin and light machine. It’s supposed to be. Ultra thin, ultra light.

I will be quite surprised if the OLED MacBook Air arrives by 2028. I was expecting later.

However, I do expect a 12 GB MacBook Neo by 2027. That's the one I'm waiting for, for one of my kids. And then I might get another Neo in 2029 for my other kid. It'd be nice if it were 16 GB in 2029, but I'm not expecting that. I may not be able to wait until 2030 or later for that second Neo with 16 GB, but we shall see.
 
Apple doesn't have the command over TSMC that they once had so I suspect the split between M-series generations will just get more confusing as multiple factors between supply, design, and demand effect each products upgrade cycle.

It’s Air 20th anniversary
 
I have a M4 Max/64 Mac Studio on order, currently waiting until October. if the M5 drops before then, I'll definitely jump all over that.

Edit: I DIDN'T get in before the increase, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No, but I think most people are now assuming the likelihood of a larger screen iMac is low. I personally gave up on that idea a long time ago, and am now running an M4 Mac mini with 32" LG UltraFine 6K 6144x3456 screen.

Which doesn't really mean much. Certainly that's not a compelling reason to make the MacBook Air OLED.

So...
-M6 base Mac Book Pro with current design (Fall 26)
-M5 Pro & Max Mac Book Pro with new design (Fall 26 or Winter 27)
-M7 base Mac Book Pro with new design (Some time in 27)
-M7 Pro & Max Mac Book Pro with new design (late 27)

Or just buy the current M5 Max and wait 2 months for it to deliver.

I’ve been thinking this about my 13” M4, should be good till my next machine which will be the OLED model

I am still second guessing myself on 13 vs 15 though, portability vs bigger screen. May go for the 15 next time, after all I’ll still have the M4 13 if I need really small and portable for a trip
 
Waiting to see the next iMac and mini. OLED MacBook Air and iMac too will be great but those two will most likely not be available for the next 2 years at least. Think the prices too will increase significantly with these changes. Want to have cellular connectivity option with the new MacBooks.
