The rumor is there will only be a base m6, no pro/max/ultra. So the base machines will get m5–>m6 and everything else will jump straight from
m5* –> m7*
The studio is the odd one out, I wonder if they’ll actually bother with the M5 ultra at this point or wait and jump it straight from m3 ultra to m7 ultra

I don't know anybody in the real world who cares about 120 Hz in the Neo and Air segment. I'm sure there are some out there, but it seems this is where MacRumors users and the general public differ.
Can confirm, on my personal air I legit do not care it’s 60hz.
And even on the pro side I wonder. So many of us keep our work MBPs docked and in clamshell most of the time, often to 60hz screens, that for a large chunk of the audience of the MBPs it makes little difference. I personally dont care about it on my work MBP either because of that. I’m already used to working at 60hz on 2 big displays. When I’m traveling and using the laptop as a laptop its promotion screen doesnt really do much for me because 1) I personally dont notice the difference much and 2) I’m expecting 60hz anyway, and that’s what I see most of the time, so for the little bit I get higher than that… 🤷♂️

Yep, I'm running a 32" 6K monitor, which is 60 Hz. I love this setup as the 60 Hz doesn't bother me at all, even though I have a 120 Hz iPhone and a 120 Hz iPad Pro.
And people thought the Intel roadmap was a mess? Apple claimed they would have better control over the products they release because they would be using their own chips. This roadmap is a mess. Some Macs have better chips than others, some Macs (iMacs) are completely ignored for years and restricted to base model chips, and longer delays than the Intel days. With unified memory, Apple forces you to buy a higher chip if you want more memory, and the same with SSD capacity as well. And then Gurman with his fantasy predictions. Remember when he claimed Apple was going to make their own TV, and that the Apple Car was looking great? The TV never existed, and the car got axed right after he made that claim. But I guess he needs his clicks.
The new feature in all of these models that everyone will hate: The new high price of all of them. Apple: "We think you are going to love it". Apple even raised prices on their refurbs and those are Macs that have already been produced and assembled years prior, before the memory price hike.

I think there's many folks who believe they'd use a touchscreen laptop way more than they actually would, but the people I know who use them well love them, so it will be interesting to see how this manifests with Macs.
No one can afford these kind of purchases anymore, and not just Apple products. (Not including work / employer purchased devices).

I dont understand either. I'd understand an "early access" chip but not a ultra macbook introduction with essentially an outdated chip for that pricepoint.

Agreed— they're better off waiting until they can launch it with the newest chip but: revenue streams. Many who can afford will buy it with the older chip when they need it and not care. Savvy buyers will wait.

Don’t care about a wave of products. I want the tsunami we used to get when all new products were released at the same time. The staggered rollout of multiple generations of chips across the lineup is absolute nonsense.
I will believe it when I see it. Never in the history of mankind has a company had such an incredibly convoluted stagnated "RAM shortage excuses" octopus of a roadmap. I call BS.

For those of us that can put the HW together, this is indeed a solution.
Sadly, not all of our family members are as capable and therefore an all-in-one iMac is a better fit for them.

The lack of a redesign and some sort of screen improvement (OLED, 120hz, etc.) for the air for 2 years is unfortunate. My M2 Air is holding up okay but was hoping to upgrade in the next year. Looks like I'll be holding onto it for a bit longer.
