Am I alone in wanting a more robust email client? As in:
-Mail Search
-Sort by Sender, Subject, Date
-Distribution Lists
EDIT: - Ability to save a phone number from an email to contacts without calling the number.

I rarely see anyone mention these missing features. I think they'd really add productivity for the business user.

I would REALLY like to see some form of battery health meter similar to iStat for a MBP. I've noticed my battery is draining more so than in the past.

Also, it seems the "shuffle" part of the iPod function plays some tunes more than others. It's not really random.

If it didn't then it truly would not be random.

This is very much like apple, but I agree I wish it wasn't a preview.

Yep, and the 2.0 software and the original iPhone itself and all of their major releases of Mac OSX. Not unlike Apple at all. People just like to say that things they don't like are not apple like.

From BoyGeniusReport, according to a commenter... sounds sorta legit I think...

All I know is that push notification ain't happening, but I don't know if multitask can be supported on older iPhones, if the rumor is true.... ;)

The big thing: MULTITASKING IS COMING TO THE IPHONE 3.0
==========================================

Multitasking is coming to the iPhone according to a member who is now part of the iPhone 3.0 group (Enterprise group).

According to the info received, the reason Apple was threatening to sue Palm was because the "home" button is being re-appropriated to show you your multiple apps. Much like the Pre's card system, an iPhone user will be able to press the Home button once, see all open apps and then quit the other apps using some kind of hand gesture, possibly the 'throwing of the cards' type thing.

This is a serious issue that will deflate some of the excitement in Pre's new WebOS, but more importantly, it will be the throwing down of the gauntlet for Apple. They will protect their IP and the multitasking approach that Pre displayed will be a big point of contention in the courtroom, should Apple seek to block Palm's webOS multitasking feature from making it to the Pre.

You heard it first on BGR.

You owe me money

$100 says they introduce "silly" features like copy and paste, multiple picture emailing yet somehow make it only for the new version iPhone they will also (theoretically for my fantastical argument) release claiming something like, "Oh well copy and paste requires the new 600mhz processor that's coming out for the final release of OS 3.0. March is only the beta release for devs".

Oh oh oh oh, and with their newly released iPhone "G4" (Yeah, that's right, G4) that can only utilize the new software I'm also calling Shuffle like headphones where the Home and Lock/Off buttons are now placed on them, you can only use an Apple branded computer to sync the device, can only wear a black turtleneck and jeans while using it, must drive a hybrid to coincide with the green theme, and you must pay with your first born child's innocent soul.

It will also feature a revolutionary gold plated, platinum dymand threaded material which is reinforced by pieces of nails from Noah's ark and will be powered by a revolutionary "All Battery Design": the entire thing is now made from a non-removeable battery and has no screen so you have more time to be productive.

Just you wait!

Wow! I love some completely unexpected Apple news - it seems to be getting rarer and rarer these days....

Apologies if already posted but this topic has exploded somewhat (can't think why )

- Push notification at last?

- Will 1st Gen iPhone users get a free upgrade still?

Genuinely excited about the 17th, should be fascinating

I can't wait to NOT get the following:

Copy and Paste
MMS
Video Recording
Wide Screen Texting and Emailing
Custom SMS tones.

IMO:
Definitely will get C/P (and push, not that it's on your list)
Definitely will not get MMS
The other three are maybes, with landscape email/text the most likely, then custom SMS, then video

BGR hasn't been so on target with the $99 iPhone and such, I'll believe it when I see it.

iPhone HD
What is with the iPhone HD? The screen is so small it wouldn't make a difference. Just like Bluray is pointless on TV smaller than like 40 inches.

Also, they will charge touch users, probably $9.99 again, to upgrade because I don't think they sell those on the subscription accounting like they do with the iPhone.

This is awesome news; I was planning to go with the iPhone when my contract is up in June. I'm not a power user, and I've realized with my iPod touch how great it would be to have an iPhone.

However, my first thought when I saw this news was, "How quickly the Dev Team will jailbreak it?"

$100 says they introduce "silly" features like copy and paste, multiple picture emailing and other wholly software related stuff and somehow make it only for the new version iPhone they will also release claiming something like, "Oh well copy and paste requires the new 600mhz processor" only months later to add it as a software update for the previous models after being harrassed continuously.

You are weird.

I think Apple could further optimize the iPhone's software to take up less RAM, then we'd have more RAM to work with for multi-tasking.

The main reason for 2.0 was to support new hardware changes, with some changes for the 1st gen iPhone. No way would this be a major release without some hardware changes. But what? An iChat camera in the front. Even if they didn't place it behind the screen, I think they'll still add one - next to the ear piece. An improved camera with Video. Faster processor and more RAM. The new OS will be from Snow Leopard and utilize the GPU. :) Oh, and yes - it will finally have copy/paste and MMS. I think they'll add a kind of "back to my Mac" connection to ones iTunes library and documents.

All I know is that push notification ain't happening, but I don't know if multitask can be supported on older iPhones, if the rumor is true.... ;)

Yeah, I think this is much more likely than MMS. It sure would explain why Push Notification was pulled from the beta and never mentioned again.

This update will probably be worthless and not released until like June, July the latest.

I am excited to see what they are going to announce, but I don't expect anything great at all.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

boy genius report!!

Hopefully cut and paste.

I am fairly certain they will have video on that camera.

Everyone expecting LOTS of new features should take a chill. I doubt the next iPhone will have crazy mad additions in hardware.

Well this might get me to un-jailbreak my phone, but I doubt it. They probably won't add the features a JB'd phone has access to until the new iPhone hardware is out.

Just a preview on the 17th. To be honest I wish Apple would wait until the actual release of the firmware to reveal all of the secrets of what's to come. This is unlike Apple.

I don't see it that way. Apple wants new applications are made by 3rd parties using the new features. There will likely be a SDK at the same time.

New iPhone 3.0 features

Mandatory upgrade or else your iPhone will not get a signal.
Breaks all jailbreaking techniques.
Breaks the future 2.2.1 Yell0w Sn0w update.
No longer able to crack apps.
New clock icon.

That would be awesome.
