Can these 25 people that voted negative please come out of the woods....
Probably those who wanted that rumored Pro Apps event on the 24th (no I didn't vote negative). I guess that event either won't happen or was planned but delayed due to bugs in FCS 3 which the rumor mentions.

Besides at this screen size multiple windows are not what the world need now material...to be practical (besides geeky0 we are talking about mobile phones here.
At a larger screen size it becomes more practical…if the iPhone OS is to scale to mini-tablet size I would expect the version of iPhone OS on the mini-tablet to have some sort of multi-window/multi-tasking capability.

Let's put it this way :apple: if you charge me for 3.0 I won't be buying a new mac for the desktop I am soo in need of replacement. I will switch over too OpenSolaris and go with that from now on. If it's a free upgrade for 2.X users I will be buying a new mini in the coming weeks. It's all in your business apple, your call.

You'll be fine either way, then. They're just showing a preview on the 17th. The software won't follow for three or four months. You'll have had your Mini for a long time when they charge you to upgrade your iPod Touch. ;)

I agree, approx 13+ million angry customers, many stuck in 2 year contracts. It would be very bad business to do this.

How's that any different from having a dated computer and unable to meet the minimum requirements to run the OS or App properly?

I agree people will be pissed, but what are you gonna do about it?

i dont really care about most of what people are asking for.. I find MMS to be overrated, copy/paste would be useful but I doubt we'll get it, video recorder is cool and all but i wouldnt use it.. the only real qualm I have with the iphone is the speed issue.. I hope they upgrade the hardware and maybe support background apps.. ahh how awesome.. oh and a real keyboard :)

Multi-tasking yes, multi-window... maybe, maybe not.

Something like Spaces would be a good way to address the same needs, though — and is probably better-suited to screens the size of the iPhone, iPhoto or the 10" iMystery.

Top o the morning to ya, b'gorra I'm sure a March 17th announcement means all the bugs will be driven from the iPhone like the snakes driven out of Ireland before St Patrick. (I'm Irish, real Irish, born and living in Ireland, so I'm allowed to take the piss out of myself ;) )

Copy-Paste, and push notifications would be my top bets, then Flash and background apps and finally MMS and maybe turn by turn GPS.

Don't you want anything else?

Well, better be good because I'm going to literally stop working that day just to watch the announcements...

Since when has Apple made OS X incompatible with computers 2 years old? Leopard still runs on a PowerMac G4 from over 5 years ago. So why would they abandon their new staple product and tick everyone off?

They won't announce all the new features of 3.0 now, because they'll have to wait before announcing iPhone3 for some of the hardware-dependent functionality.

A better camera for instance.

Contacts search exists in the current version.

What can WebOS do that the iPhone OS can't? Obviously, the WebOS demos have some features that iPhone OS doesn't. But most of the demonstrated advantages of WebOS are dependent on the newer hardware and application features. I haven't seen anything to indicate that WebOS is a better operating system than OS X.

I'm not trying to say one is better than the other. Just haven't seen enough of the WebOS to compare.

The truth is that iPhone os is structually a better os. The part that has everybody talking about WEB os is the design of it. It is the best looking os I've seen so far for a mobile phone. There are some nice intergration features, but with the pre it is all about design. I'm hoping that apple manages some way to 1up palm in this department. Nobody should ever beat apple in design.

Why am I the only one who thinks that Apple should add voice dialing to the iPhone?

I mean... I can't be the only one. Every other phone has this. The phone that I use that actually has phone service has a monochrome screen... and voice dialing.

MMS? Hardly. Great, I can send text messages to someone with a *heavily* shrunk copy of a picture I took on my phone.

Phones in general support MMS images from 60x80 *UP TO* 320x240. That's it. .0048 MegaPixels to .0768 MegaPixels. In comparison to the original size of 2-5 MegaPixels. Seriously. How do you expect to actually send a useful copy of an image with that kind of shrinkage going on?

You're knowledgeable, but you're thinking "inside the box." :)

You're assuming that MMS -- forever and ever -- must be limited to what previous phones "in general" have supported. But why? Is the iPhone a phone "in general"? Um, no. How many things does the iPhone already do differently and/or better than previous phones?

So, who's to say Apple and AT&T can't increase the MMS spec to accommodate larger photos?

I'm not saying they will; I'm simply saying they could.

Or, maybe just features that Apple promised 6 months ago, like push notifications.

But hey, nice false straw man you made there, made to delegitimize and mock and valid comment towards Apple under-delivering. You dont make any points by twisting facts into hyperbolic statements. But hey, Whatever gets you off.

Umm, yeah. Hyperbole is often used to make a point--just like you did in in your response to countdrachma:

"Oh, do shut up. How crappy every single product would be if all consumers were like you, mindlessly spitting on anyone who dares express constructive criticism about product, in the hopes of having said product improved and enhanced.

Your mentality almost makes me embarrassed to call myself an apple fan (which I am). What do you want everyone to say in these forums, only thank and grovel to Apple, praising their divinity? It certainly sounds like it."

Apparently OK for you and not for me. Don't care. P.S.: I did not twist any facts into hyperbolic statements. They were just hyperbolic statements.

There's not a whole lot they can improve hardware wise for the next phone other than the screen and camera.

- Longer-lasting battery
- Faster processors
- Increased memory
- A dedicated chip for flash support in Safari
- Adding a flash for the camera
- Adding a camera to the front of the device for video-chat
- Improved form-factor (thinner?)
- Better-sounding speaker(s)

Good thing you're not Apple's CEO or Head of Product Development. :)

It's not that no one wants that feature, it's just that we know with Apple we won't get everything we want so we're all begging for features that are more important, like MMS and video recording (I personally could care less about those), and push, multitasking, and copy/paste (gimme those).

I don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch but even I'm excited for this! What on earth can they pull out of the hat this time?
