Here's my experience with the best voice-dialing phone I ever had:

I say "Call Katie Bodin", my phone says, "You said you want to call Amy Pearson. Is that correct?"

I say "no". It asks me to repeat the name.

I say, "Katie Bodin".

The phone says, "Calling Jamie Solden (Hated Ex-Girlfriend)." I say, nooooooo! and by the time I hang up, it's already rung twice.

Voice dialing would be great if it worked....

I dated Jamie Solden.....she was a bi**h !!!!

HOw about more battery life???

YOu can never have too much battery life.

And more speed!!!

Given this seems to be Apples software priority of the moment I'd imagine we're going to see a speed/performance increase.

Looking at the competitive landscape, I would expect to see a re-designed homescreen + lockscreen -- with particular attention paid to notifications.

There will also be improvements to application management -- the current multi-page springboard predates the AppStore and its amazing success.

Apple would be foolish if they failed to address the many email & SMS issues (about which there has been plenty of noise both on these fora and the wider Internet!).

OS 3.0 will work on ALL iPhone & iPod Touch hardware, of that there can be no doubt; the AppStore is heading towards being a $1bn business -- Apple are not going to risk damaging that ecosystem!

I'm excited to see what will be revealed on Tuesday, and hope that Apple does enough to regain UI leadership in the smartphone space. :)

Wow, what is with all the surprises lately?

This is awesome! :D

Now that I am an iPhone developer (which took about 2 weeks for approval despite what the rumor sites are saying) I will get the iPhone OS 3.0 early too! :)

I think there will be some nice new and long awaited features in here, along with push AND, everything needed to launch the Tablet toward the end of the year which will also run iPhone apps.

It will be even cooler when the new Apple TV also runs apps from the app store because my potential customer base is going to be absolutely ridiculous in size! :D

Please Apple:

-Copy Paste
-Video recording & iChat
-MMS
-Push
-BlueTooth A2DP

Everything after that is just icing on the cake. Although, I don't think they will show everything on Tuesday, just a preview and then when it is released probably in June there will be more features that they never showed (like iChat and video stuff with new hardware and Snow Leopard enhancements). So don't get too crazy after Tuesday people!

I think that Apple is a holding of Hanso Foundation. This would explain why after many announcements we have always to wait for the next season...

Did they give an exact date for this feature to be implemented? I recall that they hyped the feature as coming soon but I don't recall if they gave a deadline for it being in the users' hands. Not trying to make excuses for them, but to be fair you need to show us where they promised it at a particular date or with a specific software release/update. I still recall that being a "we're working on it/coming soon" sort of thing but I could be wrong.

I wouldn't fault Apple for problems with their suppliers. We're talking about situations where Apple promised something and they were directly responsible, as part of some apparent history of over-promising/under-delivering, for the failure to meet said promise. Failure by a third-party doesn't really reflect on Apple's character as a company.

Meh... maybe. If a company hypes features as super secret, it has to be something bigger than stacks. I'd half-way count that against them. Stacks is cool but not a hype-able feature.

Okay. Got me there. :D

I believe they said September is when we'd get get push. Watch the video again where they showed it off.

Awesome! Although its not coming out the 17th

"Apparently, we'll get a sneak peak at the new OS, as well as a look at a brand new version of the SDK.". Great news nonetheless!

Even better, March 17 is my birthday :D
Even better, I'll spend your birthday getting info on the 17th and spend my birthday the 18th spending all day talking about it:p

I can almost hear it:

4. MMS: We developed a new Protocol: AMMS (Apple-MMS), where you can send MMS via email.

SCNR :p

No need for a new protocol MMS is just a frontend to the regular email system, so phones could send photos and other media and the carrier could charge for it.

If 3.0 doesn't have the option to turn off the triple alert on text messages, I'm going to punch Steve Jobs in the face.

Hahaha that made me laugh . . Don't be so mean man. :D This 3.0 better rock though. I have a feeling it will.

Think of where we were just 2 years ago with phones. It seems amazing that we're whinging about copy/paste. Document editing and the like. As that guy on digg said. Everything is amazing and nobodys happy.

But seriously apple... MMS. Bluetooth file transfer. Landscape keyboard for email and text. That's it x :)

Well by my birthday, we should have the infamous tablet . . wait, my birthday is in September.

Lol

LOL my last post there was so fake, I'm not that screwed up!

I hope the 3.0 update will include:
Copy & paste
Flash
Sideways homescreen that looks like leopard
iChat or some im app

And other awesome crap

iWork anyone?

But there definitely needs to be some document editing capability as well.

How about iWork for iPhone announced at the same time? Apple has to seriously be thinking about such an offering and IF they used this forum to announce it, they could have it for sale next week as something to tide us over for a few weeks.

Also, has anyone considered that they may also have a new 2.2.2 firmware update out as well next week (Friday of course)? While the main "feature" would be offer "better integration with iTunes 8.1.1 (no typo)" the real reason will be to stop the alternate app stores and finally implement the new movie and tv genius feature that wasn't quite ready this week.

My b-day too.....

I'm very interested to see where Apple takes the OS. It would be great if they implement some of the useful jailbreak features that I use (ie SBSettings) so that I won't have a need to jailbreak anymore.

Im guessing real bluetooth (jailbreakers did it >.< ) and probably "speed improvments" battery also. Turn by turn GPS... car ready. Built in USB file transfer (maybe ? please),

We will see some leaks of system specs for the new iphone if they release anything for deveoplers because the new iphone will probably lunch 3.0 like the 3g did the 2.0

New iphone guesses: Camers 4-6 mp ,battery newer ,GPS with offline maps for driving. better resloution screen, smaller case, bigger hd.

Is that the slax symbol?

I guess they needed to do this since so much attention was given to the Palm Pre. Apple wants to take some spot light away from Pre, smart move.

....the buzz for the pre has been VERY low since like, two weeks after it was announced.

Wait a minute. I'm a developer too - does that mean I'll get 3.0 before the masses, as well?? All developers?

Guess you must have been living away from the internet since the Pre has been announced then?

Listen, I love my iPhone. I'm a huge Apple fan, but please don't be the stereotypical Apple fanboy. Go anywhere, and many people are STILL hyped on the Pre.

Will it be a success? Who knows, but if you really think that the there's no buzz anymore for the Pre, then I don't know what to say to you.

Back on topic...

I'm betting that instead of push notifications, we're goin' to see real background processes.

Havent seen a whole lot on here or any of the tech blogs I see, other than it appearing on fallon. I guess that makes me a fanboy:rolleyes:

I suppose all I want from the iPhone (though I don't have one) is Flash support, but with a toggle so I don't have to see crappy Flash adverts.
