Well if Apple can move more people to the plus version then their precious ASP will remain over $ 650+ and they will be able to make 32GB standard - otherwise, they will continue milking users with 16GB

Some people don't want, don't feel comfortable with, a 5.5"+ screen, just as some don't even want a 5" screen. That is the user experience they want. Isn't that what Apple preaches it is about, creating an unparalleled user experience? So why should features be stripped out of a model, where technically possible, just because of the screen size. That is an incredibly haphazard criterion to decide which phone gets what feature. In 2016, 16GB severely inhibits a good user experience for even a basic user. If Apple wants to keep its users it needs to put some meaning behind it's user experience claim. And that is just for starters.

It seems like Apple's strategy is to update one or two hardware features at a time to each new iteration of the same phone.

And of all the things people ask for (i.e. complain about) the camera isn't one of them. I really hope there's something more in store for the 7. Otherwise it's a 6 with relocated antennas, a better camera system and more RAM to support the camera. Not exactly the type of innovation that will reassure shareholders.

Undoubtedly, there will be a claim of DSLR level quality/features.
The sad thing is that people will believe they need this and will become great photographers in the process.

I'm looking forward to the iPhone 7 Plus/Pro I want that dual camera, if it's anywhere near DSLR quality it would be worth it just for the camera alone. The only thing I don't understand is the why the smart connector is rumoured to be on the iPhone Plus/Pro only? And not also on the 7.

A dual camera would help with any type of photos, from a professional to the average daily user who takes pictures at special events such as birthday parties and so on.

What's it really matter? The specs on the 6 and 6S are great with plenty of headroom. I don't see a need to upgrade for 2 or 3 years!

I see no need to throw money at apple for another few years. They have enough cash to get by.

Why do so many people complain about a feature being tied to the size of a device?? Like each device comes with its pro's and con's and the tradeoff for the bigger phone would be more features. Why too, would Apple choose not to put more technology in the bigger phone instead of having empty, unutilized space?

I wonder if Apple plans on adding 4GB of RAM in 2017? 3GB in 2016 is fine, but it would interesting to see if Apple is playing RAM catch up for years to come.

I use my phone as my primary camera. I have a DSLR but it is so impractical to carry with me. The iPhone takes pretty good pictures and definitely good enough to take pictures of your food for Instagram or whatever, but I take photos of my wife and I on vacation. These are our memories captured for life. Some will be framed.

I have a DSLR, but there are a lot of places it's impractical or burdensome to take. A camera in your phone mitigates those concerns. Some people enjoy taking quality photos. Some people want the best camera possible in the device they carry with them every day, all the time. Everyone has different needs, hobbies, desires and that's not a really difficult concept to understand.

Edit: Grammatical error.

Time to invest in a compact mirrorless.

This guy is a joke. But it does make sense, especially after what apple has done to the iPad. It's going to end very bad, maybe not this or next year but it will. I'm already confused of all the iPad airs, iPads, Minis, Pros urgh.. so why not make people confused even about the iPhones meaning now we gonna have some old 6s in sale, then the SE, an iPhone7, 7+ and 7 pro... They need to make 2 versions of every product they sell to keep them the best but yea, $$$ comes first since Mr Cook took the chair.

Just what everybody wanted - an iPhone line even further fragmented and confusing for the consumer.

Apple lacks of direction. They have been cannibalizing Steve Jobs success. Now there is no leadership but a bunch of rich people pushing their ideas vs agendas. In the meantime... "lets resize, make things thinner" and remove or add features so people would ask for upgrades just like is happening with iTunes... iTunes is so clumsy and mediocre that the only success Apple had was to make cassette tape a new trend... That means bad implementation of new technologies.

Truly... to transfer songs from iTunes to an iPhone is so complicated, not to mention that I can not find a way to delete some songs that are already in my iPhone. Why not connecting the iPhone to iTunes and have a folder open up with the songs I have in the iPhone? and make it drag and drop... DUH!

Apple is applying technologies to "sell a feature". Apple used to apply technologies to fill a need and enhanced life to make it simple and better. There is no simple and better.

iOS doesn't really need it. Android does because of the way the OS works and its inefficiencies. iOS is much more efficient in its handling of RAM and what it needs for a CPU. That is why all benchmarks always show the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus on top despite its lesser RAM and slower processors with less cores.

They are producing one Plus model, not two. So, there will be two iPhone 7's and not three. How is the fragmentation worse?

Cause ....

We will Still have a 6S plus being sold with one lens, The 7 plus with 2 lens...

Today Apple is not selling just the 6S and 6S plus ..

I'm not sure people understand what fragmentation is. What we have here is not just sizing , it's products for different purposes ...

I also don't think people realise what a great upgrade a dual camera would be. I'm personally looking forward to it.

What wake up call do you think they need?
1. Stop fragmentation - There is no reason the 9.7" iPad Pro should be better than its bigger brother being the same device, the iPhone 6 and 6 plus not sharing OIS, same would go for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. 2. Make great quality products again - We pay quite a lot for our Apple products to receive 5400 RPM iMacs, Slow MacBooks, etc. And no, I am not hating, I am trying to be objective as a customer.

Really?Additional $100 for just a screensize increase?

I hope they have more powerful CPU and GPU to compensate for the increase in size AND better camera to justify the extra premium.

They are already charging $130 extra for cellular enabled iPad. I don't think cellular module is more expensive than bigger and higher resolution screen.

iPhone is expensive. I pay for the best, I want the best. Any camera improvement is welcome.

Try looking at pictures your parents took from when they were children. I want the best quality pictures to last a lifetime.

Buy a DSLR if images are your main criteria .

Just went to holiday to India , took my Sony rx1 , it's very compact, and my iPhone 6 Plus. My 6 plus images look like crap compared to the rx1, I treasure my images, hence only use my phone as a last resort.

did you mean to say you wanted the very best image quality that a smartphone is capable of ? I think the Nokia's still lead that :p

For a smartphone, yeah it should be a nice jump in quality.

3 GB of Ram? Surely Apple won't breach beyond 2GB. How about scrapping 16GB iPhones and come to the realization we need 32 GB as a base model. 16 GB is antiquated.
I think 64G should be the base model.
64g has been plenty for me.
But some people are all iCloud integrated and have no need for more G's

I agree with you completely!

Not saying it won't be nice, but I don't think the majority of people are complaining about the current camera quality on their iPhone.
If this is what Cook is referring to as 'not being able to live without it', then he's surely out of touch (or simply being the salesman).

The real question is whether they will call the single 5.5-inch model "Pro" and slap a $100 premium on it (thereby making it a whopping $200 more than the 4.7 inch model). Given their recent behavior with the iPad line, my guess is yes. It makes sense in a way. Since fewer people are buying smartphones these days, the only way to keep revenues up is to get more money out of the people who are still buying. A $200 premium will be hard for a lot of people to swallow though. This could be a real test of whether their "Pro" pricing strategy really works.

Yeah, if they do that it'll be a confirmation that Apple isn't really concerned with making the best product and is fine with just f*cking its customer base for profit. Google's Nexus line is looking better and better. The 6P came out last year and it has better specs than the 7 will have. Talk about catching up.

They still need to find ways to keep people for buying phones. Apple is playing catch up even if they are slow to the punch.
