Look at the difference. When Steve Jobs wanted to get into the media industry he purchased Pixar and turned it into the most innovative and profitable film company in the world with a string of hits. By contrast Eddy Cue's answer is to purchase an antiquated media conglomerate that has lost millions of dollars of share holders money in failed mergers over the years. The guy is ****ing moron. He can't even get the iTunes Store to work properly after 10 years.

I can see it now...

Eddy: "Tim, I think we should buy Time Warner---we could do some great, innovative breakthroughs in technology if we do so."

Tim: "What, take a risk? Nah, we can't do that."

Right... No risk in getting into the automobile market. Guess that never crossed your mind.

Apple's content will just be them throwing insane amounts of money to hire big names but ending up with a crap show.

What I want is
watch anything I want to watch on my iPad or Mac
and only pay what I see or pay only one flat fee.

And I don't want to "own" a TV episode. Who wants that?

Whatever they do, I look forward to seeing it come to Canada 10 years later.

According to Robin Williams song:

etc.etc.

Well, blame Canada, blame Canada
It seems that everything's gone wrong
Since Canada came along

Blame Canada, blame Canada
They're not even a real country anyway

etc.etc.

Netflix, amazon, and others try to be universal. They target the mainstream at mainstream prices because that is their primary business. Apple's service would be limited to apple device owners, which is a small part of the market. And Apple likes to charge a premium. But what could they offer that would be worth a premium over the netflix's and amazons?

Good luck with that. I'd rather Apple focus on being who they are. Apple has recognized they just aren't good at certain things. iAds? Tim Cook recently spoke about networking and carriers and not being good enough at it. This is another. I'd throw out there the car talk is silly too but that seems to be the fad now.

I'd worry more about embracing 4k content (not original). An apple tv is a premium priced tv box. It sucks. The thunderbolt display? Embarrassing.

iTunes / Apple Music is available on Mac, PC, iOS and Android so I wouldn't be so quick to think that Apple would keep TV content exclusive to Apple devices.

What I don't understand is why anyone would want this "skinny bundle". It seems like most people would get less content for about what they pay cable companies now.

I think quite the opposite. I blame Eddie for much of the service problems at Apple.

You can blame Eddy all you want, but who is the ignorant one who won't force him out of Apple for doing a poor job? Cook was so quick to ax Forstall, yet he keeps Cue on the team.

I'm glad Apple didn't introduce the TV service. There's no way I'm paying $30-40/month for media content. Max I'll pay is $10/mo, or just go to the public library and check out DVDs.
You're right. Adding a service that doesn't fit your specific budget/needs would be silly. It's not like there are millions of users that would gladly switch off their cable boxes for this.

But it's okay guys, this one guy who couldn't pay $30-40 a month is happy that the option doesn't exist for others either.

I still don't get why Apple thinks it needs to spend $60B on an old media company. If they think they have to buy their way into streaming then make an offer for Netflix.
Buying netflix would be a horrible idea, since doing so would only get them subscribers not content. And Netflix is constantly renewing licenseses for content. So if Apple were to buy Netflix, the providers such as Time Warner and such could either not renew licenses are far more likely greatly increase licensing costs since they know Apple has a bigger wallet.

So they either have to buy the companies that own that content directly, or they have to build their own content library to entice users so that as more users switch cable for Apple TV it will devalue time warner and such until they are more affordable or more likely forced to offer their content to Apple.

Lol, sorry but no, Time Warner is a huge, entrenched behemoth that can barely move. Nothing innovative will come from them, even if they were put under an Apple umbrella. The only thing they have changed in the last ten years is offering faster internet speeds, but only in locations where Google is mopping the floor with them.

I wouldn't say innovation couldn't happen if Apple purchased Time Warner. Apple could invest money into the infrastructure and provide their own internet, home phone, and TV service to people that way. However, your argument basically agrees with my point... Apple would be taking a risk, and Tim doesn't do that.

Other than patents, what do you see in regards to the "Apple Car"?

Personally I don't think it'll ever exist.

Again, right... What do I see???

Well, Apple has hired automotive engineers, designers, powertrain specialists, executives - more than 1,000 people. Has talked with BMW about collaboration possibilities. Has engaged a company that controls a huge private test circuit with multiple roads and streets that was once a military base, and is looking to buy huge amounts of additional real estate in California. Has engaged in discussions with other companies regarding charging stations. And, Elon Musk has said Apple getting into car development and manufacturing is an "open secret." And, Apple has significantly ramped up their R&D spending to $10B for this year, with more to come.

Yup, nothing going on. Must just be developing patents...

Apple doesn't play well with other companies, and they don't make their own hardware; thus, car parts.

Apple's developers can't even get iOS or Siri to work correctly, and you trust them to build software for something that we put our lives on the line for every day?

Tim's just throwing money down the drain because the car will fail, and Apple won't be able to get along with executives from any of the current vehicle manufacturers. I guess we'll have cars made in China that will constantly break down, cause accidents, and with accidents comes death... You'll see. Apple under Tim Cook isn't exactly a company that makes reliable products anymore.

Besides, Google has already had a self-driving car on the road for a while. Perhaps Cook and the team should come up with their own ideas instead of just copying other company's ideas. The Apple Car wouldn't be a risk that nobody else has done before.

Dammit! They should have bought fecking time Warner and Smart Things last year. WTF? They are doing what? Wasting time buying BEATS earphones? Playing in the garage with a car?

Oh yey, I can't wait till the walled garden with no sex drugs or offensive content comes to tv!! Are you kidding me, am I the only one thinking this is horrible? You think Apple would make a breaking bad or something?! I don't think so.... Apple stick to tech, even that's not going great recently.
It is kind of annoying that Apple has remained sterile and even puritan in nature...when the world is becoming more open about the taboos that really shouldn't matter to anyone as long as the proper age restrictions are placed TBQH...

Original content from Apple sounds like a disaster quite honestly.

This is a list of acquisitions made by Apple and it's very revealing seeing how they've been fairing up recently, you simply can't buy "cool" Apple.

Maybe this is an exponential growth pattern, which would match the companies growth in general. We'd need to see the number of acquisitions prior to this period I suppose.

TBQH SJ tended to want to build stuff in house when it may have been cheaper/faster to buy something that already exists....but integrations almost never really work out as well as people dream they will. Look what happened with Siri.

What does that have to do with anything?

There were home computers before the Macintosh. There were phones before the iPhone. There were music players before the iPod. There were tablets before the iPad. There were watches before the Watch. I could go on and on similarly about companies other than Apple.

With your thinking, Chevrolet, BMW, and Toyota should not have entered the car market many decades ago.
