I actually think this is a better size. 5,5" would bring it too close to the ipad mini.

Not as close as you think...

I really could care less what size if screen stays the same or goes to 4.7. But 5.5 no way. That's just a bit to big for more. I hated the note II for that reason. I couldn't really walk all the comfortable with that in my pocket. And the note III was even worse. Having a big screen is just plain over kill. That's what my tablet is for. If they do release both sizes hope that they give them the same hardware and not make the smaller version run lower end specs, like what they did with the original iPad mini.

I'm good with that. 5.5-inches is not a practical form factor I believe - not that Apple will ever make a 5.5-inch iPhone. Come on..

Around 5" is pretty much the standard smartphone size in 2014. Adding a half inch doesn't seem outlandish at all. Practical form factor depends on who you are, how big (or small) your hands are and what you want. That's a practical approach, and I hope Apple embraces it (and choice) in the future.

iFixit is own by Apple now?? is this true?

No but this is pretty hilarious especially after having heard them at Macworld smack talking Apple's approach on recycling as of late.

Am I the only one here who wants a 2.5-3" iphone mini? I don't want a fat brick in my pocket all day long, just something big enough to browse the web in an emergency. Just a touch bigger than the current ipod nano would be perfect. If i'm going to watch something or use the web a bunch i'll grab my ipad mini...

and here we go again. I thought this would be a year with a ton of great stuff (according to Tim) we are in April, not a single product released yet.
ANd Mac mini and Cinema display is waaay outdated. ANd now the products they have planned will be delayed too...as always :( wonder if they ever will catch up or be ahead of schedule?

I guess we will be in December with 1 new phone, and bumped up ipad and maybe some small updates to the laptops and Tim will say "we have some amazing stuff lined up for 2015"

The 5.5-inch iPhone has been delayed?

I guess I can wait a bit longer before buying a murse to carry it, then. :D

I have to wonder if the larger version is honestly delayed. It just seems like a perfect opportunity for Tim Cook to announce it as a whole new product later on. With Apple's cautious product design changes, a new 4.7" model should easily satisfy the expectations for a new iPhone design for at least a full year.

I'm probably in the minority here, but i have no desire to have a bigger phone. Not to say they shouldn't make it for the folks that do want it, but i don't. I just don't want to be forced to carry a phablet in my pocket when its time to upgrade later this year. Honestly i think they look silly and provide little usefulness for the added size. Current form factor is fine with me.
How bout the iPhone 6 comes in a 4" and a 4.7", both with identical processors and features? To me thats an ideal situation.
Maybe I'm crazy tho.

I was actually thinking the same thing. I also was reading about the concept of having a sapphire screen on the iPhone 6; it suggested it was a sign that touch id would be integrated into the display. If this is true then it'd be great of the home button didn't exist anymore.

I doubt they would abandon it so quickly after so much R&D went into it and an iPad which has yet to even get it

It's just some small talk which he keeps repeating, and it's not really meaning anything.

They may have a prototype but as I've been saying for the past week Apple will NEVER release an iPhone at 5inches and above. Those Android devices look ridiculous and they are only used by a tiny minority of people.

I really dislike that people see me using an Apple product and associate my positive regard for Apple potentially with this sort of mentality. You really have to be kidding yourself at this point to believe the Samsung Galaxy S4 is only used by a "tiny minority" of people. Android phones aren't the minority these days and that's a fact. The only thing that looks ridiculous right now is that bubble you're living in, and I mean that in the nicest way possible.

They came in droves and said Apple would never leave the 3.5" display behind. They were wrong then and they're probably wrong now.

My only reservation about display size is that Apple should have just kept out each size in a completely updated package. In this way if someone wants a 3.5" display they can be happy, while if someone wants a larger display or middle of the road display, they can be happy too.

Yes, I have little doubt that this isn't really the planned product schedule. I definitely think Apple has seen unexpected problems during negotiations of rights holders for a new Apple TV / "iTV" at the very least. Tim Cook has been watering out these words and I think it's a mistake; what happened to just "We can't comment on unreleased products"? Underpromise and overdeliver!

As for the Cinema display, it would seem like even if Apple released a Thunderbolt 2 4K display today, that train would already have left the station, but I think they are refusing to update it with a 4K TN panel and waiting for IPS to get more affordable first. At least to me, Apple are synonymous with IPS. And at this point, I don't think there are any 4K IPS panel on the market for a reasonable price (similar to the price of a Cinema display). I think they want that to happen first, and when the profit margins are decent, things will start moving.

Man, looks like this 4.7" screen is really happening. I know I'm in the minority but the current form factor is perfect.

That's what exactly Apple said when they released the iPhone 5. They said that the size of the iPhone 5 is the perfect size for a human hand.

Probably this iPhone update is not for humans then.

Apple to Reportedly Release 4.7-Inch iPhone 6 This Fall, 5.5-Inch Version Del...

By a tiny minority you mean millions of people? The Galaxy Note 3 alone sold 10 million in 2 months:

Have you ever been to Asia? The Galaxy Note 2 and 3 are as popular there as the S3, S4 and iPhones. Many people don't use their phones to call anymore, so the size of the phone doesn't matter that much. They want something between a tablet and a phone. There is a huge market for 5.5" devices and that market is only getting bigger.

WOW!

I'll be disappointed if Apple gives in to a bunch of loud and whiny blowhards clamoring for a huge screen monstrosity and abandoning the Steve Jobs vision of a right sized elegant device.

I'll be hanging onto my 5S for a while I guess.
