I was actually thinking the same thing. I also was reading about the concept of having a sapphire screen on the iPhone 6; it suggested it was a sign that touch id would be integrated into the display. If this is true then it'd be great of the home button didn't exist anymore.

I've been using the Motorola moto x for the past 4 months and I can't say that I miss the physical home button. It helps that the Android on screen buttons are much more sensitive than iOS Assistive Touch. They work really well!

If Apple does this, that is a lot of incentive!

WOW!

I'll be disappointed if Apple gives in to a bunch of loud and whiny blowhards clamoring for a huge screen monstrosity and abandoning the Steve Jobs vision of a right sized elegant device.

But if those loud and whiny blowhards buy the larger iPhone... and like it... then what's the problem?

I admire Steve Jobs and his many visions... but I think he's wrong about this one.

I wonder how much the off contract 5.5" iPhone would cost. I'd buy it same day it comes out.

Being that they saying that they are delaying it to do the 4.7 first, won't that make the 5.5" more sought out for since it seems like they will have limited supplies at launch.

I'm going to wait until we hear from Ming over at KGI Securities before I write-off the 5.5" model this year.

Ming doesn't have a perfect track record, but he has called some big ones that went against the prevailing consensus.

For example, called the update of the iPad to the iPad 4 after the iPad 3 had been out for only six months. He also called the re-introduction of the iPad 4 to replace the iPad 2.

Apple can't even release a 5.5 screen iPhone in time in 2014?

So much for one of the biggest companies in the world...

Other smaller companies have released such phones since 2010...

Because these are well made like Apple products... Uhm wait no.

It's not like this information is coming from Apple. It's likely that the information (if truthful) is coming from inside the supply chain- from people that have no need to leak false information in an effort to pad Apple's pockets. And btw, it's not "typical Apple."

You mean the white iPhone 4, the 4 was originally released in black then the white came a while later. The 4s was released in white and black from release day.

Always thought it unlikely they would launch 2 new sizes at the same time. It's not like them to release too many new things at once. They will probably see how well the 4.7" version sells before committing to a 5.5" version in 2015. Evolution not Revolution.

The problem is that millions prefer the 4 inch screen size and don't want anything larger!

And there are other millions who prefer a phone larger than 4"

The only solution is for Apple to have multiple sizes of iPhones to appeal to a broader range of customers. They do that with their other products already.

Can you imagine if Apple's laptops only came in the 11" size? That would be insane. Thanks goodness Apple's laptops come in a choice of 3 sizes... iPads come in 2 sizes... and iMacs come in 2 sizes as well.

I'd love to see 4" and 4.7" iPhones... and maybe even 5.5" too. Why not?

Contrary to popular belief... one size does NOT fit all.

They can continue to buy the 4" version then. What's the problem? The other millions who prefer larger screen can buy 4.7" version instead. They're not replacing one with the other just increasing the range and choice available to customers. Surely that's a good thing.

Man, looks like this 4.7" screen is really happening. I know I'm in the minority but the current form factor is perfect.

I agree, with a "phone" I would like to have a "small" phone that fits in my pocket and not some kind of "small-sized" iPad. Especially not when phoning someone.

However, I do think a bigger sized iPad is pretty ok, especially because the differences between an iPad and the laptop is fading away when time flies by and new iPad continue to become more and more powerful until the point they will take over the laptop.

Maybe in the minority of smartphone owners, in general, but not in the minority of iPhone owners.

I think this site attracts a horde of Samsung Android users. These are the people that want a big screen iPhone. I think they like the idea of throwing a monkey wrench into Steve Jobs vision. They want oversized phones, they want phones with SD slots, and on and on and on.

Looking forward to the 4.7 inch phone. I did not want to get a larger than 4 inch phone, but now I use 4.6 inch android (which I got for free) and think it is close to perfect (maybe 4.5 inches would be the sweet spot). When I use my work iPhone 5, it feels a little cramped now - still perfectly usable of course - but once you get used to a bigger size, it's not so easy to go back.

Up to 5'' still fits into the front jeans pocket.

That's your 2nd comment about Steve Jobs' vision.

Do you have a quota to meet?

Am I the only one here who wants a 2.5-3" iphone mini? I don't want a fat brick in my pocket all day long, just something big enough to browse the web in an emergency. Just a touch bigger than the current ipod nano would be perfect. If i'm going to watch something or use the web a bunch i'll grab my ipad mini...

Exactly.

Of course the bigger screen iPhone is delayed! This follows suit for the "S" series.

iPhone 3GS = Speed
iPhone 4S. = Siri
iPhone 5S = Security
iPhone 6S. = Size

Thanks for playing, but Steve is rolling in his Grave! Apple has become very predictable and playing catchup to Samsung and The entire Android platform! Congrats Apple - I am Super Unimpressed!

I don't buy the stuff into the production issues at all on the larger model. This is typical Apple. With the 4.7" they catch the first wave of early adopters that want a larger screen. Then a few months later, they release the 5.5" version for another bump in sales. Anybody remember the 'white' iPhone 4S?

Yep, seen that happen. They release something irresistible and then, once the returns window is closed, they release something equally irresistible. Some folks upgrade. Genius, really.

Not sure if we're in the minority. I'd want an iphone I'm the future that is the same size or smaller than my current 5. 4.7" could already be too big for one hand operation.

+2

The 5 is already too tall, too thin and a little too light. The 4 had the best form factor so far (other than the blackberry that is)
