Don't want to be that guy.. but...

generally you say that once the prediction has come to pass. unless you are the one who said "MacRumors will one day have a rumor about 5.5" iPhone production issues". if so, kudos. you told us so.

So basically the RUMORED launch date of a RUMORED product is now RUMORED to be delayed? Haha great reporting. Anyway how many potential customers would there be for this 5.5" phablet? That rumor always seemed dubious to me.

----------

I don't buy the stuff into the production issues at all on the larger model. This is typical Apple. With the 4.7" they catch the first wave of early adopters that want a larger screen. Then a few months later, they release the 5.5" version for another bump in sales. Anybody remember the 'white' iPhone 4S?

So Apple lied about all the reasons for delays for the white iPhone just to get "another bump in sales"? If I remember correctly the white iPhone was delayed for more than a few months.

Bad stuff for apple

Well..Thats just sad.. 4.7 is also small...

Last year I went to buy Iphone 5s.. But the screen was so small I decided to try android for the first time. So I picked up Samsung Galaxy Note 3, maybe the very best of android in terms of specs and large screen size. I have to say I miss Apple eco system and apps and sync between my Mac and iPad and the whole iCloud and UI design. But I still prefer to use android for 2 main reasons..

1. Apple has Incredibly small screen size for the price it offers and for being a flagship phone. Look at the new HTC one (m8) or galaxy S5 or Nexus 5. Anything above 4.8 to 5.1 inch is acceptable nowadays.

2. Battery Life. My Note 3 lasts like my iPad. I can use it for 2 full days. Iphone rans out in 5 hrs. Sometimes it automatically turns of when there is 5% left. Iphone really needs to figure something out for the battery life.

Apple needs to make Iphone 6 with a 3000 mAh Battery that lasts for 2 days. and also needs to make its screen wider and taller at the same time instead of only going tall. it needs to be around 5 inch rather than 4.7... then we can say we have a perfect iPhone once again.

All these rumors about new iPhone sizes are feeling pretty same-y after a while. Apple might be releasing new iPhone sizes, and while it's obviously an exciting notion, I think we get it...

I'm more interested in the rumored resolutions of these new screens. Any general consensus on that?

Let's hope Apple can make something to please as many people as possible.

And then people will come here and complain that Apple's product line is too complex with too many SKUs. I'm sorry but I don't want Apple morphing in to Samsung.

You have my vote.
I switched from the S4 to the Note3 last month and I have no issues with 5.7". I can actually watch a movie and look at pictures :p
iOS7 makes me nauseous
And how about that battery life! About 10% per 24 hours of standby
Don't forget the built-in 32GB memory + 64GB microSD for about $750
iPhone 4.7", you will be two years too late.

4.7-5 is the sweet spot for me. Five inches may be a bit too big but I'd deal with it. 5.5 is just way to big but there is a market for it so I can see why Apple may choose to go after it.

A report last week from Japanese business newspaper Nikkei stated that the iPhone 6 could launch “as early as September”, and will be offered in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display sizes

There are probably right! They just did not specify the year for the 5.5" :D

I'd be curious to know just how big the market really is for these phablet type devices. In many of the HTC One reviews I read there were complaints about the device getting too big. Same with the GS5, which is slightly bigger than the GS4. Last year the HTC One Max was panned, mostly because of its size. I still think the sweet spot that would appeal to most smartphone users is under 5" and what we get from Apple will not be over 5". If they do a phablet type device I'm thinking it will be an updated iPod touch.

I'm not buying 5.5"

Really... I'm not buying - as in, I don't believe - that a 5.5" iPhablet is actually going to be produced.

And, I'm not buying it - as in, I'm not interested in buying one.

As for a 4.7" iPhone 6? THAT, I will buy.

I have to keep my Lumia 1520 until at least Feb of 2015 so that will work out ok, plus who know I might not be able to give up the 20 Megapixel camera its just so good.

My biggest gripe with the HTC One is not the screen size, but the physical size of the device. If they could come up with a way to go edge to edge not only horizontally, but vertically, I think most of those complaints about size would dry up.

I think this is good for Apple. I do hope they fixed their battery usage. It's just appalling.

Also, SwiftKey is pretty much the KILLER APP for Android phones. I don't know how people can type on iPad/iPhone. The predictive text on them is atrocious. SwiftKey is absolutely amazing. When I have to go on my iPad I always have a harder time typing.

SwiftKey is THAT good.

I miss the iPhone some days but I don't think I'll be going back. This is a good direction for Apple, competition is good for the market.

I wish they'd have a 4.2" or 4.3" but I'll take a 4.7". I use my phone in my car a lot for Maps so this would be a nice upgrade for me.

Yeah...but is it gonna be made out of the long rumored Liquid Metal? That's what I'd like ta know. ;-)

Not as close as you think...

Exactly. The practice of comparing screen sizes by diagonal length does not work well when comparing screens of different aspect ratios. The industry should also agree on another standard, such as screen area.
