They are targeted at two very different costumer segments, and the mid-end, which the 5C targets, is larger by far, compared to the high-end phablet market.
So yeah, I still consider the 5C a flop, and the 6+ doing as it should.
Now that Apple has a new phone body style I don't see the 5s sticking around next year. They've done a couple odd things this year (3rd gen iPad mini to name one) that I don't think really give us a clue about the future. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a 6 style in phone in plastic (new colors) as the base phone model next year.
Expected, it's really an iPhone 5 in a different case. And the iPhone 5 CPU seems ready to abandon in 2015. If they do this and introduce a "6C" as a replacement with the 5S CPU, they'll be back at where they are now with three tiers, just on a new generation: 6C, 6 / 6 Plus, and the new 6S model(s).
Well, I live in Jamaica. Apple is the minority here.
I think it depends on how well the iPhone 5s sells this year. They kept 2 versions around this year (16 and 32GB), which seems to suggest that it could be next year's "iPhone 5c" offered for free on contract in a single configuration (hopefully 16GB).
A flop based on what? Apple has never released sales figures.
Wow, if they could do a 6C by April and make it with nearly the same specs as the 6, except thicker and plastic, but sell it for $100 less that would be amazing.
Alternatively, I'd like to see them discontinue the 5S and put its internals into a 5CS. I think the plastic phone gives a bit of color to Apple's lineup and some folks are drawn to that.
Funny how we regard the 5C as a flop, next to the 5S..
But the 6+ as a success, next to the 6.
The sales ratios are the same for each.
A "perceived" flop based on the fact that it was supposed to be the low(er) cost phone everyone wanted. The "Walmart crowd", for instance. The low-moderate income consumer. I see iPhone 4's and 5's all over the place. Rarely do I see a 5c. You don't really need sales figures. You just need eyes.
In this day and age, who wants to spend $500 on an 8GB phone?
I would put it this way: if Apple releases a 6C, we could safely assume the 5C actually had a significant market share. Otherwise it will be hard to argue it wasn't a flop after such a short lifespan.A flop based on what? Apple has never released sales figures.

I've only ever seen two of these since they were released. I've already seen two iPhone 6s.
You live in Jamaica.
Any type of electronics is a minority there.
I couldn't give a crap less what some people "perceive". You might not see 5c's but I have, plenty of places. Anecdotal evidence doesn't take the place of sales figures.
Agreed, that would be a great idea. I wish they offered a 4" iPhone with the A8 chip though. I wouldn't personally buy it as I prefer the size of the 6, but it seems a bit of a fob-off to no longer offer the latest specs in a smaller screen size -- especially after Apple kept banging on about one-handed usability for years.
