I can count the numbers that I personally saw on one hand. The hype was fun running up for a "budget iPhone" but off contract is destroys wallets just like other flagship phones.

This falls under the category of duh! The 5c has the internals of the iPhone 5 which will be a 3 year old config in 2015...

i think people were expecting the line to be continued: this year's would have the 5S internals. cutting production (entirely?) is noteworthy.

i would need dozens and dozens of 10-fingered hands to count them - the blue (and white) were everywhere. surely must be somewhat regional.

In an an unrelated news, Amazon Fire phone is now without contract $199 and it includes one year of prime. It would be hard to compete with such a low priced phone. It makes more sense to concentrate on the latest phones.

Instead, what Apple did was keep the 5s around as the mid-range phone. Last year, they came out with the 5c instead of keeping the 5 around as the mid-range. I think Apple was expecting that the repackaging and new ad campaign would increase sales vs. simply keeping "last year's iPhone" as the mid-range. Apparently it didn't work out, so they went back to the old formula.

I want a iPhone 6c and I want it now. I would even pay $50 more.

I absolutely love the look and fell of the so called cheap plastic.

Really? Everyone is that surprised? The low end model always gets discontinued after two years. Just like the iPhone 4 did in 2012, and the 4S in 2013, and the 5 in 2014. Just like the 5S will be in 2016 after becoming the free phone next year.

Not really news guys. Get over it. It's the typical product cycle. Must be a slooowwwwww news day.

In other news....Apple will discontinue iOS 8 in September of 2015 for a newer version supposedly called iOS 9.

I call BS on that.

It was 3GS in 2012, 4 and 5 in 2013 and 4s this year, but either way it's not a surprise.

Talk about a flop. I'm sure the 5 people who paid $649 for them 4 months ago are angry. :D

Could Apple take 5s components and fit them in a 6 style body? Maybe a plastic version of the 6? I think that might sell well (especially if Apple updated the colors and offered black as an option).

Apple could make a larger iPhone that is slightly thicker very easily. Remember the reason Android phones were made bigger was that the manufacturers couldn't get decent battery life and performance in a form factor as small as the iPhone.
But I don't think Apple is going to do any real design work or engineering for a cheaper phone. If they make a C, it is just going to be an existing design with a plastic body.

For those of us that already have PRIME, this is basically a $100, Snapdragon 800-based, unlocked phone! I might pick one up just to play with. :D

The iPhone 5c flop was based on the fact that why pay 99 dollars for one year old tech. At the time you cound have easily gotten the iPhone 5 for the same price.

I think...

that apple will re-release an iPhone "6 mini" or "6 minus" with the 6's (or 5S') internals so that they have three form factors available. That would allow them to keep the 1-handed usability of the 4 in, the big-but-not-too-big-to-be-used-with-one-hand 4.7in, and the iPad mini mini 5.5in.

5c - failure

One of Tim cook's failures.. Not only was the product wrong, the price was wrong for one year old tech.

Mark my words, there is a reason why Apple's ipad sales are down, 5c flop, apple TV abandon, and general lack of innovation (other then getting ideas from the jail break community). And let's see how the apple watch does...

Tim cook is leading apple into the ground with mediocre products and not pushing for excellence. And yes share price is up, but that is just riding the coat tales of past glory. I love the new microsoft/samsung ads, they really do call apple on there stagnancy. Some are dumb but hey, they are right, the new thing is in, bigger screen!

I really like the 5c. Few of my friends have them and they are very happy with it. It's probably the most durable and solid phone Apple has ever created. I'm very disappointed how bad my 5 and 5s looked only after a short normal usage (my current 5s has scratches just from using a bumper, my previous phone - iPhone 5 was criminally pathetic - the black color came off with every small scratch, the "jewelry like" chamfered edges after two-three months looked about as elegant as homeless mans dental properties).

And the 6 / 6 Plus ARE fragile and DO bend more easily than competitors phones. All in the name of thinness and "style".

I hope there will be 6c. I want I phone that SERVES ME, not a precious piece of luxury I HAVE TO LOOK AFTER AND CARE FOR LIKE A FRAGILE CHINA.

I hope they bring back the design in some form for a 6c - I love the 5c's look and feel. It was an extremely sturdy feeling phone that I didn't feel the need to baby like the 5, 5S, or 6. Never felt the need to hide it in a case.

Apple has never released sales figures for individual iPhone models, just total iPhone sales.

What is your logic behind that? if your product is strong, why not? Does it give competitors some advantage that there competitive research doesn't already tell them? Never is a strong word, and apple hasn't followed your logic in the past.

Also, do you thing samsung would go back and say.. hey, let's repackage our S3/s4 into a plastic shell, make the screen smaller, and resell it as new and innovative?

So...the oldest phone in the lineup is going to cease production shortly before new models come out.

The surprise is where exactly? There is some mighty mind-bending speculative skill on display here.

This phone proably works well with USA's phone plans but around here where phones are mostly not subsidised (I pay my mobile phone service in a 4 play service included with TV, FTTH and regular phone) the iPhone 5c never was cheap.

In fact it was quite expensive. Anyone considering at least 600 euros (that is 750 USD to save you a google search) for a phone would go for one of the top iphone models. It does include VAT but stil....

Ahh boo hoo! No complaints here. Apple usually discontinues their iPhones after 1 year! So in all respects I must say this crappy iphone had a hella of run. Lol. ####

Fire phone? You mean the phone thst's being firesaled?

Aesthetically, 5Cs are the best iPhones alongside 4/4s. Apple just shouldn't have named it "c", which somehow led people to think "cheap". If the hardware inside is on par with 5s, I would've bought one (even if same price as 5s).

5C and Apple Watch

When it was announced that the Apple Watch would only work if paired with an iphone, I figured the 5C would be a perfect vehicle to drive apple watch sales for consumers who did not yet have an iphone, especially if customers would be able to receive them for free (the iphone, not the watch) with a 2 year carrier contract. I suppose they could do the same with the 5, and by next Fall, assuming a new iphone is introduced, there will probably be a significant 5S subsidy with a contract.

Their loss is my gain. A Snapdragon 800 based 32GB UNLOCKED phone for $100 (since I'm a PRIME member already) is a gift. Would I pay $499? Never. But $100, it will make a great spare phone or a great gift for under the tree for someone this year! :)

It's a STEAL.
