I think 10.5 is just a beta release and 11.0 will have all the features of 10.5 (WiFi sync, match) baked into it along with some new things revealed at the event.

Last time kids.

Apple will not release the GM before any new iPhone is announced because if they did people would find out about the new phone before it is announced. The GM will have specific info on said new phone.

And any new features they will want to demo (speech recognition).

I'm quit sure several large companies already have the GM in order to show off at the apple media event. Twitter is one of those companies as is Gameloft and a couple more. And they are under very strict NDA agreements.

Heh this is a little freaky.

iOS 3 final beta to GM was 33 days.
Assuming GM is at event on Oct 4 that's 34 days since last beta.

:) *Plays Twilight Zone music*

Thing are different this year.

the only thing different is apple moved the iPhone release, maybe because of hardware issues or because apple wanted to split the hardware and software announcements up, who knows.

That doesn't effect apples roadmap though, they will still release GM's at the event and release it to the public when the iPhone goes on sale.

It's never going to happen any other simply because Apple needs an event to update developers and give them the go ahead to start submitting iOS5 ready apps, and before anyone says they are already being submitted, just because it says iOS5 compatible doesn't mean it is since apple won't approve anything compiled in the latest build of Xcode.

Once apple gives developers the green light, they then needs a week or two to allow developers to submit apps ready for the public release.

So please, stop with all the dreaming... it's never going to happen, the next is either going to be another beta or nothing until the event.

nothing till the event :p i wouldnt be surprised if there is no event on october 4th or 5th either.

Indeed. On a side note, why are there so many public announcement from major firms lately?

It's the influence of intense competition and expansion in the smartphone sector. Mobile devices are red hot in the tech sector and the related companies that have anything to do with mobile communications and computing are just as eager to move forward at the same warp speed as the rest of the segment. It's a near frenzy with everyone competing for their share of the revenue generated by the very rapid growth.

Why exactly would someone want their iPhone back-up on the cloud? I'm serious, what are the advantages? Wouldn't this waste space on someone's iCloud account. This would use up over 25% of someone's iCloud account - for a file you would rarely even use. Seems to me this is just for sht n giggles and would be more practical to just keep your back-up on a local computer.

Well since iCloud backups are probably the only thing taking up the free allocated space you're given on iCloud. Photostream doesn't count towards it, apps don't count, purchased music doesn't count either, so what else you going to fill the space up with? lol. my backup only takes up 140Mb, it did take up more, but that's due to VLC and Spotify, so i disabled those.

So no iOS 5 GM today then? Too late?

I wouldn't count B8/GM out until 6 PST.

No GM until the event. if there's anything, it will be a beta.

You say the GM comes out at event everytime but the iPhone also came out in the summer everytime too.

yea the iPhone came out in the summer before, but Apple have changed the cycle, but changing the release cycle doesn't mean they're going to release a GM before an event. As has been said, GM will have final code in, which will have pointers to the new phone and may have the Nuance/Siri integration. Apple won't let that get out before an event.

Anyone else having icloud backup issues since they reset everything on 9/22? Mine said that I had 5 of 5GB free, and when I tried to do an iCloud backup, the backup failed, but my space free went down to 1.3GB (which is what it's normally at when backups work). It keeps saying last backup was "Never" though.
