I need help here guys.

Backed up my iPhone 4 to iCloud and got rid of it to get the iPhone 5. Don't have any iPhone at the moment.

How the heck can I download the backup before they reset iCloud? Didn't see this coming! Sucks if I lose the backup, didnt backup to iTunes.

If it isnt too late yet, borrow someone else's phone. They back it up, then wipe it, and restore from your backup and then back it up to itunes. Then Restore from his backup.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A5313e Safari/7534.48.3)

I hope we see beta 8 or a gm tonight.

My phone now says Latest Backup - Unknown.
So I can confirm it has been reset as I was backing up nightly.
Any attempts to backup result in an error message.

So I thing it's safe to say they are in the process of wiping/resetting the data.

Hi Theperipheral

So for years on iOS devices when you plug them into the computer it makes a backup in iTunes so that if you need to restore/get a replacement phone you can just restore your information and it's like nothing even changed.

iCloud lets you store that backup file online now rather than in iTunes so all you need is an internet connection to restore your phone from backup

Apple specifically stated they will be wiping all these iCloud backups prior to GM release. Apple is wiping the iCloud Backups today.

Basically it means we're getting closer to the GM. By some rare miracle we might see the GM tomorrow, probably less than 0.05% chance, otherwise there's a 99.95% chance it's coming October 4th.

Ok, well thank you. That was a satisfactory explanation.

iCloud pretty much lets you sync all your devices connected to your Apple ID and have each device contain the same photos, apps, files, app data, calendar events, mail, and other things that your other iDevice has. If you only have onb iDevice, it pretty much just saves all those things, mentioned above, in the "cloud" (aka lots and lots of servers at a data facility built by Apple in North Carolina).

iCloud also lets you save iDevice backups and lets you restore to them if needed. You get 5GB free when you sign up for iCloud (when you get iOS 5 you automatically get the 5GB free).

But why do they whipe out all the data today, if they wait for the release of iOS5 until 4th October? Is there a technical reason or what am I missing!? For me this is not really clear... I would appreciate if someone could help me understand ;) THANKS in andvance!

Well I was hoping that the GM would come tomorrow so devs could "Hammer" the iCloud server with the GM build to make sure it's stable and good to go so we don't have another disaster on launch day.

In some sick, twisted way I'm beginning to think we might actually see the GM tomorrow. My precious!!! :D:D:D

Backup function appears to be up running again.
All old ones are gone, but you can create a new one now.

Was on a conference call a few moments ago and iCloud backup popped up on my screen asking for my password.
Entered it and the backup started.

Yep. All my backups disappeared for multiple devices, and all did a complete backup again 20 minutes ago without issue. I'm waiting for the iTunes match reset cause my library looks like crap.

Do they handle that in-house?

My backup is gone and my iOS device told me to that I should backup to iTunes as I haven't done so in a while. iCloud also says the time of my last backup was NEVER.

Who's ready to disprove BGR on the GM today? They said Beta 8 on 16th and GM today. They were half wrong already. :D

Why exactly would someone want their iPhone back-up on the cloud? I'm serious, what are the advantages? Wouldn't this waste space on someone's iCloud account. This would use up over 25% of someone's iCloud account - for a file you would rarely even use. Seems to me this is just for sht n giggles and would be more practical to just keep your back-up on a local computer.

Apple wants their iDevices to be usable entirely without a need for a computer.
