This was a weird one. Can't really wrap my head around why you'd buy this large of an iPad. That floppy keyboard you can buy for it is also a head scratch design wise. Comparing this product to surface pro 4 you can tell who got it right. That's my opinion, some may disagree, don't get too upset.
Microsoft definitely has a better piece of hardware comparing the Surface to the iPad Pro. However, I think the iPad Pro will be much more successful strictly due to the apps. With the iPad, everything is designed with the iPad UI in mind. Everything is designed for touch. With the Surface, it seems like no one has really gotten that concept yet. All of the Microsoft apps fully take advantage of it, but it seems like it's lacking all of the third party support. Microsoft is trying, and they seem to be making some good progress, but they're just not there yet.

For pure economy and productivity, it's hard to beat a good laptop and smartphone combination. That's the reason you see them in the workplace and on college campuses.

I am sure there is a market for a large iPad in the creative arts, but it is pretty small. Unfortunately, and contrary to Apple ads that show 20 something hipsters working in music or graphic art studios, the vast majority of us office slobs (me included) need a device that is optimized for handling databases, documents, spreadsheets and presentations. When it comes to this type of work, the laptop is king, so over $1,000 for a tablet is probably going to be a niche market.

I've been looking forward to this for a long time. I think this might be the first iPad that's capable of replacing the laptop for many business professionals such as myself... The iPad is already the primary computer for many consumers.

With beefier yet lighter hardware, maturation of iOS and porting of more pro apps, the post-PC revolution will be complete before we know it.

surface pro doesn't work well as a tablet. i had a surface pro 3 and I gave up on trying to hit the small buttons with my finger and trying to drag and drop items between folders.

so if the surface pro doesn't work that well as a tablet, you might as well use it as a laptop. which in that case, buying a laptop is cheaper

I'm interested for two reasons: having two apps running side by side (which a MacBook or Air 2 can do) but also for taking hand-written notes. As a lefty, no matter what app I try or stylus I try (including the $80 Jot stylus), none of the palm-rejection works very well. I need to be able to lay my hand on the screen in order to write. I'm sick of carrying notebooks and paper around in my backpack.

Hopefully this device will help reverse the current trend in iPad sales. I don't want one, but I hope it's successful nonetheless. Still rockin' an iPad 2. As a device for consumption, it still gets the job done. No need to upgrade... yet.

I don't think it will do anything by itself for the current trend, it's a more expensive, more narrowly focused (due to its size) device. I hope it's a success though and they keep iterating on it. If they're going to market a keyboard to use it "vertically", it seems like they're going to have to offer some optional (but never required) touchpad support.

This was my experience with a Surface too. I'm always surprised to see people say they love it so much, but I guess they're using it as a laptop replacement. But as you say - you can get better laptops for the same or less money.

If your not using this machine for drawing purposes, or some other design type function, why would anyone buy this over an actual laptop computer?

iOS 9.2 dropping sooner than expected then? Or did iOS 9.1 contain the iPad Pro compatibility?

For me, the iPad Pro will be a killer digital sheet music reader, with either 1 full-size page in portrait, or 2 smaller pages in landscape. It will also come in handy for photo management/editing and web browsing.

My wife falls in that niche market and I know I don't which is why I could never justify it for myself, it would totally be just a big-ass screen to carry around for a month or two.

Also for me when I 1st bought a Surface Pro 3 for the office I tried it at home over the weekend before handing it off and theres no way it could replace my laptop for how I use a laptop at home. Same reason an iPad with those foldable keyboard never worked. I just don't like that setup at all. I need a hinge with some resistance between the screen and keyboard. I can recline in my chair or couch and be completely comfortable using my laptop, I could never get the same comfort trying to use the Surface in the same way.

My company has about 15 SP3 floating around. They're primarily docked most of the time. They are absolutely fantastic on sales calls though. We take them and let customers demo our software by driving the presentation themselves. The uptake is astounding when we present that way. The higher to position of the "driver" the more success we seem to achieve. We're looking to develop on the iPad Pro as well. It's a back burner project since our customer base primarily consists of PC houses. I know we're getting SP4's to replace the 3's. I imagine we will get 3-5 iPad Pro's to gauge viability.

9.2 will enable iPad Pro. Is my understanding.

More iOS products and more iOS-connected products means more opportunity to release minor refinements. Seems to be Apple's thinking.

Obvious concern is whether increased opportunity for fixes results in decreased initial accuracy: Why be perfect on 9 when 9.0.1 9.0.2 9.1 9.2 are coming as safety nets to catch initial mistakes?

However in my experience so far, iOS has maintained initial accuracy for new hardware, pushed later optimization for prior hardware, and done both quicker and with better stability.

Unfortunately absolutely there's more users expecting higher accuracy. So more scrutiny. *gate

Remember when iphone was a new thing? Early adopters thrilled on margin of benefit v competitors. This margin is still there in UI simplicity, processor speed, data security, platform unity, hardware longevity for use and resale, and now provides App Store with great stuff to add on to this device.

Fortunately, more users expect higher accuracy :) and foster more apps!

So 9.1 and 9.2 appear better and better, according to most reviewers, and complainers are especially welcome.

Heheh yes :) if I do not get this version which is what I have been awaiting (more screen real estate), then I will be thankful to the many millions of who I will lovingly call 'my precious Guinea pigs' (and those of all other heritage/residence/self-definition) heheh.

Here's an opposite question: Those of you who already have a 12" Retina Macbook, is there anything about the iPad Pro you find could be an improvement over the Macbook experience? Could you perform your daily workflow on the iPad Pro, regardless of the additional resources and capabilities the Macbook affords you?

They're releasing it on Remembrance Day? Am I the only person who thinks that's a terrible idea? I'm surprised the Apple Store is even open stat holidays

Wouldn't it be kinda crowded if everybody lived where you live?

That's true. I have never even heard of that day in my whole life. :p

Maybe it will replace my white MacBook (Mid 2010).
