I am a moderately serious amateur photographer, and I look forward to having the larger screen to edit my photographs on site. I enjoy using my iPad Air 2, but I believe the iPad Pro will be just that much more enjoyable to use, especially since Adobe has updated Photoshop Mixit and Photoshop Fixit to work with the iPad Pro and the Pencil. This is going to be a blast! :D
As a pro photog I find my Surface pro 3 fits this profession perfectly. Full photoshop (and other tools) available. Massive storage really helps with RAW files. Also the ability to dock to a 32" color calibrated monitor when in studio is just the icing on the cake.

Still don't understand how this 12" iPhone is right for "pro" work but if you're simply a diehard fanboy it's all moot I guess.

Explain exactly how it's a 12" iPhone? Because it doesn't have an exposed file system? Because it doesn't run x86 apps?

who will use this device

People like myself who want a larger screen tablet.

I've found that since getting the 6 Plus, that I've used my iPhone far more than previous smaller screen iPhones that I had. Personally, the larger screen has made using it a better experience. I expect to feel the same with the iPad Pro.

I think that with the extra horsepower and the larger screen, we'll see the devs start to pump out some great stuff in six months time. Not only new apps, but enhancements to existing apps as well. I agree that the "pro" name is maybe less appropriate than maybe iPad "Plus", but I'm excited to see what this thing is capable of as a daily driver.

Interesting. I am definitely getting one. But being a photographer who edits 50gigs of pictures at a time using lightroom, There is no way I can do all that editing on the Ipad. I so wish I could.

Not sure. Who was going to use the original iPad? Who was going to use the iPod? Who was going to use a computer without a floppy drive? Who was going to use a computer without an optical drive?

I buy just about every apple product out, heck i just got my apple tv today. I own 12" macbook, macbook pro retina, have owned every iPad, iPhone 6s plus, etc.. However I can not think of anything for me that makes me want this ipad, especially considering how expensive it would be to replace my current ipad air2 with one with cellular, etc..

I did just get the Microsoft surface book, and I do have to say its amazing. The new keyboard for the surface 4 is really nice too. There are a few Microsoft bugs, however I really think apple has fallen behind microsoft on hardware design. They are not really innovating any more.

This was a weird one. Can't really wrap my head around why you'd buy this large of an iPad. That floppy keyboard you can buy for it is also a head scratch design wise. Comparing this product to surface pro 4 you can tell who got it right. That's my opinion, some may disagree, don't get too upset.

The surface 4 on paper sounds great, unfortunately, you're stuck with a crummy OS and meh quality hardware. I've tried using Photoshop with it and it drove me bonkers. Touch interactions were so shoehorned in and was such a lousy experience. The pen technology seems far more promising on the iPad pro and can't wait to try it out. Wacom must be pretty nervous right about now.

Microsoft definitely has a better piece of hardware comparing the Surface to the iPad Pro. However, I think the iPad Pro will be much more successful strictly due to the apps. With the iPad, everything is designed with the iPad UI in mind. Everything is designed for touch. With the Surface, it seems like no one has really gotten that concept yet. All of the Microsoft apps fully take advantage of it, but it seems like it's lacking all of the third party support. Microsoft is trying, and they seem to be making some good progress, but they're just not there yet.

Better hardware is relative. The Surface is heavier than iPad pro even though it has a smaller screen and the stylus lags. With the keyboard cover, it's actually heavier than a MacBook retina.

Being that the Surface is neither a great tablet nor laptop, it remains a niche device, though I can see how for some, the 2-in-1 represents a better value prop.

Different target markets and completely different times. iPad had no equal when it first released. Now, the need for such a product is much lower given that most households have at least one functional table; in many cases, an iPad at that.

I love my functioning table....it keeps my dinner put while I'm eating

Right. Most folks unable to get past this thing not being a PC. It was never meant to be. It's meant to be the highest of high end tablets that's it. If you like a Windows PC that moonlights as a tablet, then go buy a Surface, simple as that.

I wonder if you could use the pencil to do fine photo edits like aperture did? That would be awesome.

Even if I wanted one, I have to wait until the 2nd gen. No way can I justify a fully loaded 27" iMac, iPad Mini 4 and an iPad Pro. Besides, have to see if I'll need one for school and what educational discounts are built in.

"the vast majority of us office slobs"?

While I don't question the fact you are a slob I would wonder if the population that you and your fellows slobs occupy are as large, in terms of market, as you think....

For pure economy and productivity, it's hard to beat a good laptop and smartphone combination. That's the reason you see them in the workplace and on college campuses.

I am sure there is a market for a large iPad in the creative arts, but it is pretty small. Unfortunately, and contrary to Apple ads that show 20 something hipsters working in music or graphic art studios, the vast majority of us office slobs (me included) need a device that is optimized for handling databases, documents, spreadsheets and presentations. When it comes to this type of work, the laptop is king, so over $1,000 for a tablet is probably going to be a niche market.

I'll wait for the second generation iPad Pro. Thanks to everyone who beta tested the first generation!

Different people prefer different work flows...at least the poster wasn't being condescending about it (can't say the same for your post).

I worked with a pro photographer who like to 'triage' most of his shots on an ipad air. He might do light editing and such as test shots but did serious editing on a mac or macbook. It sometimes comes down to personal preference...not someone deciding others preferences are "fanboy' related because you don't like them.

Lastly, the OP said he was a serious amateur photographer. Since he is not a pro, don't you think he could be using his ipad for *gasp* more than one purpose? It works well enough to use with his hobby but it also works well with his work and personal life.

And the ipad is just a big phone mentality is a sad example of poor logic. If that is the case, then a swimming pool is just a bog bathtub...both used for exactly the same thing.

Shouldn't you be out waiting for the great pumpkin? Devs cant "pump out" a pointing device, offboard storage, mouse-ability, or a decent keyboard cover. Ipad pro looks like a lovely sketch tool with all the amenities of ios media and app ecosystem. No need to pretend its anything else

In the US the holiday is celebrated as Veteran's Day.

I have no issue with Apple releasing a product on this day. If I did I would have to work overtime working up my outrage since every car dealership, furniture store, Target, Walmart...heck, every business...will be having a Veteran's Day blowout sale and have been doing so for years. Anyone who is thinks it is in poor taste or outraged they should have been update about a whole lot of things well before this.

You beat me to this. I think it's more of an issue with the tact of this.

I want one of these so maybe I will get my wife one for Christmas (and use it while she is not home).
