My Predictions about peoples opinions after the event
I'm in the "meh" group. Just can't get too excited based on rumors that the form factor will be the same for the 5s. I'm more interested in the 5c actually; at least it's proof they've done something on the hardware end this past year.
My contract is up this November, when a slew of new phones are going to be introduced. I don't want to jump ship, but I wasn't too upset I couldn't upgrade to the 5 last year, and I suspect there are a lot of people who felt the same way. Having had four iPhones in a row (all of which performed perfectly), I think it's way past time Apple started growing out the iPhone "family," like with the iPod.
Remember that commercial showing us the wonders of being able to use the iPhone with just one hand? I thought that was an arrogant stance on Apple's part, as if to say the competition is wasting their time offering bigger screens and new features. Well, there are now so many choices of screen sizes, resolutions, features, etc. that Apple had better stop ignoring the fact that buyers of smartphones are pretty savvy these days about what they want in a phone, and will go elsewhere if their needs or likes aren't met. Just saying, "It's new and improved on the inside," is not going to cut it. The flagship phones of every competitor seem pretty impressive these days.
Apple has the best ecosystem, and provides the smoothest, most efficient experience IMO, but I for one prefer a 4.7" or 5" high res screen, and for the first time I'm going to seriously do some comparison shopping. I don't feel like paying $299 for an "upgraded" 32 Gig iPhone that looks identical to the current 5. My 4s is just fine, and will make a good iPod if I go with, say, an HTC One or one of the rumored Nokia Windows Phones being introduced this Fall. I've been a loyal iPhone customer since the first one was introduced, but it's time for some reciprocation on Apple's part, me thinks.
