In the USA, where the monthly contract for a phone is ~$100.

I've got two iPhones on my plan for $142 (one with $15 data and one with $30). I guess that's $80 for one and $65 for the other, get a friend and get on a family plan! If I can get another friend the plan it'll bring those average costs per phone down even more! :)

If ANYONE is still paying AT&T $20 for 1 person or $30 for family plan for the unlimited texting (with mobile to mobile), give them a call, they've been dropping it $10 a month for life just for asking. (a very cost effective 10-15 minutes on the phone!)

Larger screen would be nice.

Still holding out with the iPhone 4, will also be taking a look whenver Nexus 5 arrives.

September 10th, iPhone sales jump for the next new quarters erasing Android gains.... until the following two quarters with no iPhone releases... which will only continue to highlight that obsessing quarter to quarter remains stupid in this market .

there you go again with patterns

apple doesn't do patterns they do what ever feels right at that moment

you think this is a science

it is a bunch of guys just making things up

my main point anyway was
we used to fight about the name all day long but on this one no one ever suggest anything else

that the name is a given

I'm just surprised about that

lastly mactruths.com is a really boring site

Not science, not patterns, logic, and good business

This Time, Apple Needs the "Wow" Factor

My Predictions about peoples opinions after the event

I'm in the "meh" group. Just can't get too excited based on rumors that the form factor will be the same for the 5s. I'm more interested in the 5c actually; at least it's proof they've done something on the hardware end this past year.

My contract is up this November, when a slew of new phones are going to be introduced. I don't want to jump ship, but I wasn't too upset I couldn't upgrade to the 5 last year, and I suspect there are a lot of people who felt the same way. Having had four iPhones in a row (all of which performed perfectly), I think it's way past time Apple started growing out the iPhone "family," like with the iPod.

Remember that commercial showing us the wonders of being able to use the iPhone with just one hand? I thought that was an arrogant stance on Apple's part, as if to say the competition is wasting their time offering bigger screens and new features. Well, there are now so many choices of screen sizes, resolutions, features, etc. that Apple had better stop ignoring the fact that buyers of smartphones are pretty savvy these days about what they want in a phone, and will go elsewhere if their needs or likes aren't met. Just saying, "It's new and improved on the inside," is not going to cut it. The flagship phones of every competitor seem pretty impressive these days.

Apple has the best ecosystem, and provides the smoothest, most efficient experience IMO, but I for one prefer a 4.7" or 5" high res screen, and for the first time I'm going to seriously do some comparison shopping. I don't feel like paying $299 for an "upgraded" 32 Gig iPhone that looks identical to the current 5. My 4s is just fine, and will make a good iPod if I go with, say, an HTC One or one of the rumored Nokia Windows Phones being introduced this Fall. I've been a loyal iPhone customer since the first one was introduced, but it's time for some reciprocation on Apple's part, me thinks.

Well I'm wondering if the 5s may include a larger screen. If Apple decides to release a 5s the specs on that sucker has to be a helluva lot better than the 5c, because if they are close in specs than people will opt for the cheaper more colorful option.

Furthermore every other line of apple products has more than one display size every line. Increasing the iPhones screen size while holding at 4 on the 5c will give them a whole new reason to upgrade to the new model.

Probably wont happen but it seems reasonable

i hope apple doesn't cripple the iPhone 5C with low memory storage. that would be a huge let down if they only offer 16GB

Wonder if they will figure out the back AND front of the phone should be the same color, at least when they are so different.

It's exciting to have an idea of a release date or announcement date. I have a prepaid Nokia X2 from T-Mobile that is on its death bed, so I'm looking forward to an iPhone for my first smartphone (and I'm 32). Definitely getting the cheaper platic version.

Doesn't Apple sell more iPads every quarter.
Am I missing something?

yes, you're missing something:

http://www.cultofandroid.com/38269/...s-android-tablets-increase-their-lead-report/

Q2 2012: 17 million units
Q2 2013: 14.6 million units.

I doubt that - housewives and teenagers (Apple's main target group) probably don't care about fingerprint readers.

Also, it can be assumed that the 5C will only be sold in China and India.

Oh wow, much earlier than I expected

this was the headline from an engadget post from last year's Apple Special event in September - it happened on Sept 12, so almost the exact same date! Not early or late at all!

Yeah, but that's for the service from AT&T/Verizon. You can pick up a decent smartphone for $100 off-contract from Wal*Mart. So while $450 is "cheap" by Apple standards, it in no way will be low enough to target the segment of the market they need to target.

I hate it when Apple announces a new OS or software or any other product and it's not available the day of the announcement.
I really hope that September 10 is the release date for iOS 7.

If Apple does release a lower cost iPhone, I wound if it will be China only.

Also at least here in the states, it's not the price of the phone that's the problem, it's the monthly fees that's the problem.
