September 10th, iPhone sales jump for the next new quarters erasing Android gains.... until the following two quarters with no iPhone releases... which will only continue to highlight that obsessing quarter to quarter remains stupid in this market .

Might I point out that in your own comment you acknowledged the fact that Apple can wipe out androids gains with 2 models, compared to at least 50 different android phones being sold during the same period of time (a quarter as you say)

I'm pretty sure market wise people look more at the number of iPhones Apple sells compared the number of phones another 1 company sells.
The fact that apple held off android as long as it did till recently
And was # 1 in phone sales till Samsung took that title in the spring, is what the market considers.

Hence the cheap iPhone. More attractive to those who Care more for looks and some cool things instead of the full specs and power or just top of line stuff
And cheap!!
Boosting sales not only in the US, but Asia, the worlds hugest mobile market.
And unlike Samsung, Motorola, LG, HTC and many more... Apple will still be selling only 2 models.

This financial year will prove to be different from the past ones
Could be a huge successes or a failure
Personally I Don't see how it could fail

Who cares about the iPhone??

The question is..
When is the MacBook Pro Retina Haswell being released??????

...everyone's waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.........:(

...... Tim Cook has kept saying its going to be a big Fall for Apple...

I think I need to see my optometrist to have my eyes checked out. For some odd reason, I kept seeing that sentence as "Tim Cook has kept saying its going to be a big Fail for Apple..."

Please no iPhone C... Not even the 3G with it's plastic shell was low enough. History teaches us some things.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's going to be the cheaper option, so it's kind of like worrying about Apple still selling an iPhone 4S in a couple of months.

hope next iPhone is nearer the competition

because of the insufficiency of the iPhone 5 - I just bought a Sony Xperia ZL;
the Xperia ZL has all i want: 5" display, any LTE Frequency needed, NFC, Infrared, no random interruptions of a call ...
first i thought don't switch you have bought so many apps - but to be honest I use only 10 of them regularly - apps are not an argument not to switch

when the new iPhone is near of that I will switch again - but I have the strong feeling that they will stay with that terrible mini display

btw. fingerprint sensor - so the robbers will take your thumb to ?

Maybe it made sense when the iPhone was ritually released in the summer. Now that it has jumped to fall, it's kind of stupid. It's especially stupid to compare a quarter at Samsung a month after a new flagship model with a quarter at Apple nine months after a flagship model.

But I mean it's someone writing a money story and they've got numbers, which are either higher than lower than other numbers. Therefore journalism!

Apple will unveil its next iPhone on September 10, reports AllThingsD, citing sources with knowledge of the event.

I believe no date unless it comes from the mouth of Apple. If others want to believe this, for their loss. Just a warning. Every analyst has been wrong about dates before. ANd there is zero way to know if they are correct this time.

$490 for a "budget" iPhone? That's too expensive. Budget phone is a phone that costs around $100-$300 (no contracts or subsidies). Knowing Apple, the iPhone 5C is gonna cost about 500€ in my country. Yes, it is cheaper than the current iPhone 5 that starts at 705€ and some may just go for it for it's 300€ cheaper price tag but with the rumored specs, the price is just big NO.

Better luck next time Apple

$300 still isn't low enough to attract low price seeking buyers and those who are willing to buy expensive phones are already mostly on contract so the appeal of the Nexus 4 is greatly diminished. AFAIK it's a lukewarm seller just like all other Nexus devices despite its relatively low price and the hype on the internet.

The real "cheap" phones are the ones in the $50-$200 range. Have we forgotten what the best selling individual Samsung smartphone model between June 2010 and July 2012 in North America was? It was the Prevail, a $50-150 smartphone that no self-respecting geeks paid any attention to. That's a market Apple will have trouble addressing and not really one addressed by this new iPhone model.

It's simple. There are markets Apple will never enter. The netbook is one. Apple's answer to the netbook was to re-invent the tablet category. So Apple's answer to the cheap and crap phone market is not to make another cheap and crap phone to compete with them. Apple's answer will be another better product people will but instead.

And on another note I think Apple is slowly falling into the 90's curse. Too many product lines. And there's no Jobs to cull them all and bring it all back to reality.

I wouldn't be getting the iPhone 5C, I would be getting the iPhone 5S (or whatever its going to be called).

I think a lower cost iPhone from Apple will be a good move, especially with all the lower cost Android phones out there. But the price of the 5C will have to be right, its pointless bringing out a lower cost iPhone, if its still going to be more expensive than the lower priced Android handsets.

Also, there are people who would like an iPhone, but their budget won't stretch to it. A lower priced iPhone will be a possible choice for them if the 5C is released.

If Apple does release a lower cost iPhone, I wound if it will be China only.

Also at least here in the states, it's not the price of the phone that's the problem, it's the monthly fees that's the problem.

The monthly fees are in part the phone. You're not getting for phone for <$100. The cost you didn't pay upfront the carrier is charging you over the contract term.

Apple's product line is actually pretty sparse compared to it's competitors that also deal in PC's, tablets, and smartphones.

I wouldn't be too concerned about bloat just yet.

No matter how much you guys keep saying the next iPhone is going to have so and so features, all I can say is if the screen is not larger and wider, then Apple will lose TONS of people point blank. If you can have different size iPads why not the iPhone. Besides the Android OS which I don't like I'll put up with it because after playing with friends Samsung Note 2 and Galaxy 4 I have to say the size of the screen sold me.

And this iPhone 5C "C" for cheap is what comes to my mind. They would need to change that name.

You can already. iPhone 4S and 5 are different sizes.
