It's looking nice on Retina, but if you have a rather smaller font on non-retina it's a lot less readable than Helvetica.
I hope they fix that.

Whatever happened to that video from WWDC a few years ago?
"For every yes, there are 1,000 noes"

I feel like they've been very trigger happy on decisions like this for the past couple years.

How is designing a new font trigger happy? It probably took the better part of two years to design it, knowing Apple. Design a whole new font just for the Watch? This is obviously a thought-out, long term, design & technology strategy play. Definitely not a knee-jerk decision.

I liked the original San Francisco font. The was the one that looked like a ransom note, iirc. Though my favourite font has always been Chicago from my old Mac days.

I think I prefer Helvetica, I kind of agree that the new font reminds me slightly of android style look.

… not sure if i like the lock screen (time display) shown on the teaser – strange blank in-between …?

We had that once:

I never had a problem with Helvetica Neue... in fact, I prefer it to San Francisco though on a very small screen, San Fran is probably more legible. In the end, I don't think most users will even notice.

I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, a condensed typeface works well from the utilitarian perspective of UI design because you can fit more text into menus, labels, etc. It works especially well on a small display like the Apple Watch. However on desktops, phones and tablets I'm not sure if we need it to be this condensed. The only area I can really think of that it would be useful in iOS is in tight spots like app icon labels or navigation bars. Other than wishing it was slightly less condensed I don't have a problem with the typeface and wouldn't be upset to see it across all of my devices later this year.

I hope they give the flat design a major overhaul. It just idiotic to have labels and button look 100% identical... Theres a screen shot somewhere, were a apple app had a label and button saying the same and looking identical...
