Anybody read the story of Graphing Calculator? Presumably written by two Apple guys who didn't really even work at Apple. They sneaked in every day and wrote it on a PPC prototype.

Can't find the link.

yeah, I read that, we all like to think our work is important, but that was pretty sad. They should have found a new job, and finished this as a hobby, then sold it for some $$$, GBA

Huh.

I don't find "Bonjour" to be that bad; not as descriptive as Rendevous, but not too bad.

Graphulator, though.....that sounds craptacular......

After hearing Steve Jobs' unusual way of saying "Jaguar", I wonder how he'll pronounce "Bonjour"?

"Bonj-wire"?

Not only does Bonjour sounds silly (and yes, French is my first language), but Apple is now in the same stupid trademarking of common words, just like Microsoft (Pages, Bonjour, etc).

Real words shouldn't be allowed to be trademarked (Windows, Word, Access, Pages, Bonjour, etc).

I was under the impression it was going to be renamed OpenTalk?

OpenTalk sounds too much like AppleTalk. There is a lot of unfounded anti-Mac sentiments in the IT world about AppleTalk - Apple's trying to move away from that sort of thing.

Well, I think Bonjour is a great name, but I'm neither an English nor a French native speaker.

Why the hangup on French names? "Bonjour" sounds horrible.

Hmm, maybe they want to sue the French people? Now that's a new revenue stream ;)

Bonjour sounds like a crappy name, OpenTalk flows better.

Graphulator Spreadsheet

Apple has to be working on a spreadsheet, and they'll want to be many times better than Excel in the graphing area. I'm guessing that Curvus Pro X will be the graphing portion of er... Graphulator? They HAVE to do a better job naming it.

Back in the OpenDoc days, there was a package from Adreneline Software called Numbers and Charts or Numbers and Charts. Those were good Apple type names - I'm surprised that Steve didn't buy them.

Remember "hello"?

I'm guessing they went with Bonjour out of nostalgia. All the ads for the first Macintoshes showed a screen with 'hello' written cursively on it (which, of course, at the time was a mind-blowing innovation).

And remember "Say hello to iMac?"

'This Product is OpenTalk Compatible' sounds 100% better than 'Bonjour', I really liked the term 'rendezvous' much better but, that goes to show you, whatever I like dies horribly.

Anyone wanna go get a cup of juice? :D

In my opinion Graphulator sounds kinda cool, hehe

I think that the Gigawire will be some sort of a new connection that apple will come up with for extreme transferrates :D

I think "Graphulator" is so bad it makes even "Bonjour" sound good ... and thus its purpose is fulfilled. Graph you later, man.

lol, I can just imagine telling my professors I need to plug some equations into my graphulator!

The look on their eyes

I rather like:

sans souci

Curvus has been withdrawn from distribution...

A visit to the website finds this message...

On July 22, 2004 Curvus Pro X was bought by an international company (whose name cannot be revealed) and its distribution has been discontinued. It is therefore not possible any longer to download nor to buy any kind of registration license for this program.

We would like at this point to thank all the users sincerely who registered and supported us during the development of this program.

well I'll add my voice to the chorus here and say I think both names are horrible. Graphulator is cheesy and bonjour - oh wow, it's just awful.

Bonjour.... gonna be pretty confusing in France.... mebbe they'll rename it to 'Hello' over there?

Nothing against the Bonjour name, but I've never really seen why a separate name was needed for Rendevous. After all, it is simply part of iChat, and not really an app in its own right.

A menu item in iChat called, say, 'Log into iChat Local' is all that's needed.

Can't remember how Jobs pronounced 'Jaguar' but, let's face it, all Americans say it in a daft way - 'Jagwaa' ;) ;)

er, no. It's whole capability of its own with a published API. Many Apple apps other than iChat make use of it (such as iTunes, iPhoto, Safari, the Printing subsystem, etc.) as well as any third party apps (such as SubEthaEdit) or any app you write yourself. Even hardware manufacturers (e.g. printers) support it.

Go read about it. It's pretty impressive what it is and how broad its usage is.

OK, thanks. I stand corrected. :)

Steve pronounced it Jag-you-are... the British way.
