It’s the A12Z’s 8-core GPU, there is no dGPU in the Mac mini DTK.

They did not show the demo running from the Mac mini, they showed it from that special in house iMac that is said to have an A12Z cpu but they did not commented on the gpu that it might or might not have. It could be the gpu from the A12Z or it could be a Radeon Pro 5600M or even something more powerful that they have in house.

I have to say the Silicon Macs looks awesome. It must feel bad for someone who just purchased a machine. Yes, I know the current machines will be great for years to come but while some of the hype surround the new chips are overstated, they will definitely be a beast.

Just bought a mpb 16 today for a good deal. Don’t feel bad in the least. Running Windows is desired.

No, he didn't say Apple would stop supporting Intel Macs after two years. He said all new Mac models will have switched to Apple silicon by the end of two years. Software support (OS upgrades, etc.) of those Intel Macs will continue for "many years to come."
It's not the OS support that is of concern. The concern is if application developers continue to support them.

I’m disappointed there was no announcement of XCode running on the iPad. If it were to happen, I’d expect Apple to have announced it today, so Jon Prosser was wrong on this one.

I'm glad that finally Apple have announced the ARM transition. Also great to know that Apple will be supporting Intel for years to come, especially since Apple are planning more Intel based products.

ARM and Intel can live side by side.

Hehe, it was exactly my first question... My bet is, though, Windows 10 for ARM will become compatible one day. If not Apple, if not Microsoft, then the community will make it happen (I know what I'm talking about, as for years I've been among the people working on better drivers and improvements for Boot Camp, such as Trackpad++ drivers, etc.). In fact, 'The Boot Campers' community is tens of millions of people worldwide. Huge one, actually.
There needs to be motivation though.

Even Microsoft isn’t committed enough to compile its own apps for windows on arm.

Apple has a ton of experience with ARM, probably more than any other company in the world, so I don't think it's true that ARM Macs will be in any way flakey or problematic. It's possible, but I think the transition will be smoother than you think.

They do...3rd party devs don't. Its not the Mac/OS i'm talking about. Its the 3rd party apps that will need to be transitioned over.

Fortnite is easy to run. I want to see how the new ARM Macs run a real game like WoW Shadowlands coming out later this year.

If shadow of the tomb raider is running well I think WOW should have no problem.

Remember Blizzard was one of the few companies that support PowerPC mac gaming back then.
And Wow already running on Windows 10 ARM today via emulation.

No the motherboard is all different. Apple would have to release a new MacPro with Apple Silicon. I don’t think they will make a coprocessor..

I would imagine the new MacPro with Apple Silicon to lose most of its modularity. Apple would probably make a tall Mac Mini Pro similar time the Mac Cube they made a long time ago. Tall for a few expansion cards

No, they actually could introduce a board with ARM chips on it that you could boot into. Doesn't mean they will. of course.

I'm waiting to see how they'll support PCI and Thunderbolt specially.
As far as I know, the A12z has no PCI support on the i/o controller.

It will most likely move to the next version of the T2 chip (PCI and Thunderbolt support) if it is not already there.

Tim Cook said himself that Apple’s ARM chips are designed for minimal power consumption - which is great for phones and tablets, but silly for computers. Computer processors need to be designed for performance!

Power consumption is all but irrelevant on a desktop Mac, but even on notebooks, Macs have demonstrated that they are capable of using Intel and having great battery life. At best it might be a little better for the environment, but I think it is probably the screens that use the most electricity, and Macs are a very small percentage of computers anyway.

This makes me feel like my computer is going to be forced to run on a cell phone CPU - a cell phone CPU that is AWESOME, but it is awesome for cell phones. Why would I want it on my computer?

I hate to say this, but this is the first time in years I am thinking about possibly switching to Windows. I’m not saying that to try to rile anybody up, but I mean, I’m basically losing all my existing software either way now.

You can stream games on macOS with GeForce Now-but no Xbox Studios titles anymore streaming via GeForce Now, so there goes the stunning Microsoft Flight Simulator unless Xbox decides to bring xCloud to macOS officially.

Please, save your condescension for someone else. I've left the Mac before for years and I'll do it again. When I think about what keeps me buying their products it usually comes down to iMessage and the overall integration between devices. That isn't enough this time. This messes with my ability to do work.
Psh I rely on Bootcamp too for running Windows for work, and I'm not all that worried. Did you just straight up miss the part where they talked about virtualization? They even demoed running Linux using Parallels, which is basically just Bootcamp without having to restart your machine. Apple knows how vital Bootcamp is and has been for many of their Mac users. I'm not a betting man but even I would make the bet that nothing will happen to that functionality.

Bottom line, if the transition was expected be the hell that many of you seem to be convinced it will be, they wouldn't still be shipping Intel-based Macs well into their transition period..
