Bought a 32GB model, and I don't think I will ever fill it up, as the number of worthwhile apps (Even including games) are really few. Plex, Netflix, local TV stations, a few apps extras, a few games - Faaaar from 32GB.

I have 32Gb model, this is enough. Have installed: Infuse, Mrmc, Plex, Trailers, MeteoEarth, Nastify, VLC, Youtube, Netflix... Then some games like: ModernCombat5, Asphalt, GT spirit, CrosyRoad, Snowboarding, ... I have only 10gb full, I realy hope, they will put real games on AppStore, like GTA, Fifa16, maybe Batman - Arkham Story..

I nearly always go with higher storage options for my Apple Devices but the Apple TV was the first one where I really couldn't see the point. I got the 32GB storage and i've never even thought about how much storage is left, i don't install a lot of games or apps, 32GB is plenty.

Also, the 64gb version will buffer better with slow internet service, which I can verify. I paid 149 for my 64gb so it was a no brainier to grab it.
Just out of interest how are you able to verify, have you had the 32gb model to compare?

I am curious about this as well. I have all 64gb but not sure it would make a difference. Even the ATV3 will buffer the entire iTunes Movie while watching if you have the bandwidth. And movies are around 4gb.

I got the 32gb. I was a little worried at first but a new AppleTV will be out before I'm anywhere near filling that up.

App thinning keeps apps small so you would need to be on a mission to fill the 32gb storage for it to actually happen.

I Got the 64 with no regrets at all. I live with a 16GB iPhone 6 for almost a year and never again will go storage hungry.

I was only ever intending on getting a 32gb when the time came, but got £100 in store credit from trading in my old iPhone 5 that my son was using so thought I'd put it towards a new AppleTV.
So a 64gb for £69 seemed too good to pass up.

we don't plan to play games on the AT4. (I don't normally play video games but if I do... it will be on the Xbox One). So we just bought the 32GB versions.

I have never regretted buying the Big Kahuna model of any Apple product. I have friends who have regretted buying the low end.

I did. I bought a 128gb iPhone 6 for both my wife and I due to the shortage at launch but unfortunately mine suffered from numerous issues associated with the 128gb :( But other than that, I agree, I've never regretted spending more on storage.

Definitely go with the 32 GB. This is not an iPhone. Unless you are REALLY big into game playing, 32 GB will be many times more memory than you need. This is especially true since you seem to be tentative about buying the ATV4 in the first place and that there will no doubt be an ATV5 in a few months anyway. Go with the 32 GB and see how you like it.

I am thinking of getting my first Apple TV but I am unsure if it is worth it and which model to get. I watch Netflix on my iPad and would like to watch it on the TV. I also have purchased movies and tv shows on iTunes that I would also like to watch on the TV. Do you think I will use it enough? If I get one, which capacity should I get 32gb or 64gb?

If you are like me, you only need a couple movies at a time to be onboard locally. 32GB easily covers this. But I don't use Apps either. If you use a lot of Apps and will continue to grow your collection, better go for 64.

And even if you need more later, the thing is not that expensive and you can use your current ATV4 in some other room or something. Or sell it to a relative/friend.

That would be fine if you could even store movies locally, but that's not even an option.
I myself regret getting the 64GB, I've got quite a few apps and still only used 16.62GB.

I now use about 34gb of 64gb on only 1 of my 8 Apple TV's. it is my main Apple TV. I have a lot of Apps. Only Games use a lot of storage so far. Apple just increased to allow initial storage from 200mb to 4gb. You have to ask yourself why did they do that? I expect if you have no need for games then 32gb will be fine for first Apple TV. I expect a Apple TV 5 to come out within 1 year.

This is a personal preference. So here is my 2 cents worth. I like to buy as much capacity as possible. I know countless
people who were perfectly satisfied with their 8GB iphone, 16GB iphone or the 32GB iphone until they couldn't install an update because of insufficient space. So maybe 64Gb is overkill but that is what i purchased.

I bought the 64gb, no idea why though. No way I will even get close to using that much space

I haven't really seen any case for the 64GB ATV unless you are really planning to load up on game apps. Maybe with time apps will become bigger or more things will be stored offline.

Has anyone with a 32GB ATV run out of space in a way that meaningfully affects performance?
Nope and that's with plenty of games from the App Store and sideloading the emulator Provenance and loading it up with classic games (although, I might if they get the PSX core working in the release build, those games are huge). Haven't gotten close. 32GB is more than enough with the current games out these days.

If Apple TV can store videos locally (the actual file and not some cache or buffer) then 64GB would be critical. Heck we might even need 128 or 256GB for media storage. But Apple TV does not behave like Mac or iPhone/iPad. It doesn’t and can’t store your chats media or any offline media on it.

Even Infuse doesnt do that AFAIK. It streams through local network and that’s it. I’ve had 32GB iPhone 4S and I’ve had bunch of games which quite large at the time. And the phone also store a few of videos and synced itunes musics (didnt have Spotify then).

Well it worked out fine with all those heavy burden. Now the Apple TV with literally no offline media, no chats data, I even wonder why Apple sells 64GB ATV at all? Milking the customers?

ATV 3 came only with minuscule 8GB when iPhone then came with 64GB. And there’s a reason for that.

You're seriously not taking into account the 'temporary' download of an iTunes film. When you watch a film from iCloud, the film downloads in its entirety. (Try doing the same on your iPhone and you'll see the same). Now how large a file do you think a 4K Dolby Vision one is especially when Dolby Atmos is included??? Pick a 3 hour or 2.5 hour film and you are easily going to hit 25GB. I sincerely can not see the argument not to go for the largest capacity when we are talking 20 dollars / euro. Seriously, I just don't see the argument - isn't it better to have something that has loads of spare storage to work to its absolute maximum potential rather than something that is approaching its maximum??? Seriously, why even the discussion. It's Apple and if there's one thing that i've learnt with Apple over 23 years of using their products is GO FOR THE LARGEST AMOUNT OF STORAGE THAT YOU CAN!!!!!!! At £20 extra, they are giving it to you!!!! Take it before they bump the price up!

Also ATV3 DID NOT allow for apps of your choice and the 8GB was STRICTLY for cache of iTunes film!!!!!!! That was HD 7GB file at it's largest. Can you not see that 4K DV Dolby Atmos files are larger???

You've also not allowed for larger TVOS updates etc and screensaver at 600MB each - try keeping 10 or 15 of those.

I always go higher. I'd rather have it and not need it rather than not have it and need later down the road.

32Gig...

it's cheaper . I know what i don't use it for and for the future... Although getting as much as you need is always good, i would rather look at it for, "i'll be needing this in the long term, rather than the short term"

But I’m not sure your taking into account that when Quick Start is enabled nothing is downloaded in its entirety as it plays back on the fly.
It only temporarily downloads when Quick Start is off.

In which case, even 64GB wouldn't be enough either. A 32GB difference only allow you to download one more 4K movies w/ Dolby Atmos and Vision, yeah, just one more. If Apple starts allowing 4K movie download, it would be put on your iTunes computer or NAS. Otherwise we would need 256GB Apple TV at minimum.

Yes it might be £20 difference for you, at my place (Singapore), the retail for 32GB is SGD228 and 64GB is SGD298. Yeah, SGD70 difference, that'd be about £40 to you. Would you pay that much? For the money I'd rather put it for more hard drive in my NAS. Even if I need to redownload, my cable has a decent 50Mbps which can download 600MB of files in no time.

Again, in my case Apple TV is merely a middle man. It is necessary but I must rely on my internet and local network to get the content to my AV system.
