Grow up. You can't sit there & tell me that a feature as basic as Parental Controls with a media server cannot be included with Plex.
Certainly with music none of the big boys seem to manage - Tidal and Google Play etc don't provide controls.

YouTube controls are worse than useless and they've done nothing to improve them despite huge demand.

Plex does at least offer them, you just need to be prepared to pay.

Sure it can be included with the free Plex but they need to make their money somehow, right?

Obviously you have a need for Parental controls, therefore you need to evaluate whether or not it is justified by you to purchase a Plex pass. If you don't then you have the option to find an alternative solution.
I have. I think it's not worth a monthly subscription in the long run so I'd opt for the Lifetime which is a little steep TBH. It sucks cuz I really like the way Plex organizes everything & the covers/artwork.

Air Video TV handles Parental Controls good enough to save me $150. Yes Youtube's are a joke & I don't have much experience w/ Google Play.
I'm not too concerned about censoring Music in my house, just Movies/Videos. There's a lot in my collection that my 2 young sons don't need to see yet.

They did make their $$ from me. I bought their iOS app. Twice. Once for my iPhone, & for the wife's iPad (before family sharing was implemented in iOS 8).

I hope someone can help me with what is probably a very basic Plex question...

I'm new to Plex and loaded a trial "home video" in the HV folder to see how this all worked and that went just fine. It showed up on the AT4 and all was well. Until I tried to add another home video. For the life of me I can't figure out how to add additional videos into the same HV folder!

Maybe a senior moment but it seems this should be obvious?

They need to fix the video ffw rew and scrubbing when using original remote. I have a harmony and do not always use atv4 remote. Other video apps like Netflix, YouTube, and TED handle old remote pretty good but Plex doesn't. I am only able to press play/pause and then use arrows to go forward or back by 10 sec.

Just add (copy) the new video to the HV Folder, and then update the Plex library (which should be update automatically when it detects new files).

I'd like there to be 1 folder with multiple videos in it. What am I missing?

Pretty disappointing Plex experience here. While everything plays smoothly using the Plex App on my Samsung TV, most movies don't play on the ATV4 App. Running Plex Media Server on a Synology NAS.

Same here. Didn't play any file until I changed connection settings on the server. Would not let me fast forward on any file for no reason at all while it was possible to do so with Siri. Both topics are at the top of the plex support forums.

Worst of all: basically *none* of my video files play without hiccups. Set everything to original quality, server installed on a *dedicated* 3570k server with 16GB. This is just borderline unusable. Everything works fine on Kodi on all of my devices, but not on the most expensive one. I know Kodi plays more files natively, but even the ones that should be perfectly fine stutter on the TV.

You guys must have an issue with your settings because I've tested Plex with my video library of 1080p mkvs and they all play without an issue and fast forwarding is very fast. I'm close to my 802.11n Airport Express and the Apple TV gets around 165mbits down on my network.

Make sure you set the Apple TV to "1080p unlimited" in the Plex settings of the app.

I think the app is great. For other UK guys, you can also get BBC iPlayer on this. As long as your server is running on a PC or Mac (maybe also Linux), you simply install the BBC iPlayer Channel on your Server from the official Plex App Store. Install the Plex app on your Apple TV and link the app to your server. When you enter the App, swipe up and navigate to the 'Channels" section select BBC iPlayer and enjoy :)

Works fine on Linux too (running on my UnRAID server) :)

On your NAS/HD you make one folder called HV say. If you have 10 video files drag them into there. On the Server admin page add HV as a video source with the Home Videos type. That will give you one Library entry showing up in your client. Every time you have a new file just drag it into the HV folder. You can delete your current HV library from the Server ( not the files!). The only way you will be getting two identical entries is if you have two servers pointing to the same folder.

There a a few glitches but Plex is working great for me on the ATV. Don't forget to upgrade the Server.

I'm new to plex but i'm sure you all can answer my simple questions.

I loaded some media to plex by having it scan a couple of hard drives. All seems OK.

How do i get it to show RottenTomatoes ratings? (Or can it, i swore i saw screenshots showing it).

The files have multiple audios but it always defaults to AAC audio and won't allow me to change to Dolby DIgital. Why? (There was a setting in plex to use "dolby digital" or something like that, I checked it but still can't get 5.1 audio selected).

All for now.

Make sure the setting in the OS is set to Dolby Digital. You still can't select the proper audio track within Plex, but it will output the correct one nonetheless.

Tried all settings. Unfortunately, still without success. Other apps work without a flaw. Check the Plex forums, there are quite a few more facing the same issue.

I always find it hard to read that I should do the things I already did and mention in my post just one comment below mine. Do you guys even bother to read stuff? :D

However, I turned off the alternative rendering engine in server settings. It was activated by default and everything is running pretty smoothly now. Try that out.

Where can I find the "alternative rendering engine" settings? I've been scanning the settings menu for a while now, but don't see that option. Thanks!

Don't bother looking for them. They weren't the reason it worked. Don't know what wrong with Plex. It hast the exact same issues with the exact same files that weren't working before. Stutter was gone and forwarding was working, now everything is back to where I started. Won't invest any more time in this, 39€ raspberry pi 2 with kodi plays every file i throw at it without any flaws, even 50 mbit rips.

If there aren't massive improvements to the Apple TV in the next 12 days it's going back. Apple Music on it is even worse than on desktop & phone. Thank god you can AirPlay Spotify to it reliably. :(

"Generate video preview thumbnails"

Is this working for anybody on the Apple TV ?

I enabled this in plex Mac app , I also did a refresh of my entire library but still when I fast forward on the Apple TV plex app I don't see the video thumbnail while scrubbing

Got it. I'm up and running now. Thanks.

Now another question. When I add movies I sometimes get generic titles or sometimes just numbers. I see where I can go in and change the title to correct it. I hit save and it seems to take the change. However the next time I go in its reverted back to the original gibberish title. No matter how many times I change it it always reverts back...

Any insight on this?

Thanks for all the awesome help. I'm really liking Plex!
