Is there any way to simplify the plex interface on the ATV4? For example, if I want it to just show "recently added" movies when I start the app?

Unfortunately not, as far as i know. I would prefer a cleaner interface aswell.

When I finish an episode it doesn't go to the next one
It goes back to the same episode menu where you hit play

I'll have to check that out.

Be aware that Simple X did not cache the covers today. So it will load them everytime you are zapping through the app.

But there are some advantages too. The official Plex App uses the Apple native player, while Simple X uses the TVJS player. In my opinion the TVJS is more stable. No probs at all while playing with subs, choosing audio and subs while playing a movie with a swipe down and so on...

I bought SimpleX - I really like EVERYTHING about it except for the lack of cover caching, which you note here. It's really annoying that it take 10-30 secs on every screen of covers to see the images.

I definitely has the simpler navigation that I'm looking for.

so i just realized plex wakes my computer screen that i'm running my server from and it doesn't go to sleep. but it shouldn't wake it up in the first place.

I can pause a video with the play/pause button the Siri remote but to start the video I have to click the touchpad

The play button doesn't play the video using plex

Is this a bug or how is suppose to work

I would like to remind people that for a few years now, people have been whining "just give me an app store" and "just give me the ability to run Plex on my aTV". Now we have both and it still isn't good enough. Now Plex is worthless unless it can be searched by Siri. Come on people!! Be happy about all this. Siri is nice and it would be nice if it would search everything, and maybe someday it will. But Siri is an enhancement not a must have.
Amen bro. That's how most of the forums go around here. Apple cannot seem to do anything right according to most on here. Yet they keep buying the products. Reading many of the topics and posts here depresses me. But I love the Apple ecosystem and learn from some of the topics posted.

Maybe I'm missing it, but is there anyway to snap back to root in the app? It's annoying to navigate back constantly clicking menu. Killing the app is the only way I've found.

Plex is pretty much useless for watching movies. Takes ages to start it and still starts buffering after 30 minutes or so. SimpleX is better at starting the movie, but still starts buffering after a while.

Streaming from a 5K iMac, and no problems with the WiFi.

Not having any of these issues with Plex. What size are your files? I'm also streaming from a 5K IMac - streamed a 2.5GB movie this evening - not a single pause or stutter.

If the format of the file is h264 MP4/m4v it will do that along with scrubbing

If the file is mkv or avi it won't

Run your mkv files thru iflicks or subler to make them m4v
Does converting a file from mkv to m4v result in a loss in audio quality?

Would the resulting m4v file with AC3 audio have a loss in audio quality as compared to the original mkv with DTS?

Get mp4tools app on the Mac and select pass thru for audio and video

I've been using iflicks and converting my files to iTunes compatible format. Does that result in quality loss?
No but whenever I select iTunes tab in iflicks and the video is mkv and 5.1 AAC or ac3 iflicks creates a second AAC 2.0 audio track for the video
I don't know if that's a setting you can turn off in iflicks
Which makes the file size a little bigger
