dunno how this thing is going worldwide, but here in italy it’s not included in tv+. you have to buy coda for 10€ and no rent.

Why would he be on stage?

Honestly it’s probably just that best picture award recipients is less intuitive than others.

He’s not a producer so he won’t get an award, nor will some of the producers as there are so many. But it’s certainly not uncommon for other key stakeholders to get involved and as distributor they are fairly key, yeah? (They are distributor, right? Don’t judge me if not lol)

After I saw this film, I knew it was going to win! Apple TV+ now gains some credibility? Will it be part of the conversation between the major streaming services: Netflix, Disney+, and now, Apple TV+?
No. Apple acquired the rights for the film when it was already completed and shown on film festivals around the globe. Apple didn't produce or funded the production. It did not had any involvement in the creation of the film. So, apart from showing that Apple's TV+ executives have good taste and deep pockets, this award proves nothing about Apple TV+.

I'm glad CODA won and I'm also glad Apple provided the resources needed when other studios wouldn't to repeatedly feature it throughout the year including keeping it front and center on ATV+ for all this time. It's a shame that Will Smith completely distracted from what should have been a great moment for the disabled community as well as embarrassing the Williams family.

It was a really great film and deserves the recognition. Even if Apple just bought the rights, I'm glad they're buying good movies and not just filling up ATV+ with whatever.
Filling up a streaming services with "whatever" is necessary, especially when you stream in hundreds of countries and your viewers have different age, taste, preferences, ethnicity, religion, gender, and background in general. Offering something for every taste is crucial if Apple TV+ wants to expand and become popular. For example, there are people who enjoy documentary films about history more than anything else, or people who enjoy horror or Sci-Fi movies and ignore any drama. Imagine if the apps on the App Store are only those specifically picked by Apple as worthy to be on the App Store. At the end, offering an extensive catalogue, including local productions like Netflix is what makes people want to subscribe and maintain their subscription, not just a few good movies that you can watch in a single weekend and then unsubscribe.

Pretty amazing how apple got into streaming just 2 years ago and already won best picture. I know they just bought it, but they recognized the movie's potential.
Not amazing at all. Apple didn’t make this movie; they just bought it off someone else.

We shouldn’t be celebrating the purchasing power of a mega corporation with deep pockets. It means that most of the world will miss out on this (apparently) good movie unless they subscribe to Apple TV+.

I hate this fragmentation of the way that movies are distributed. Imagine if your phone provider only allowed you to receive calls from a few select people*. The world would be up in arms.

*And, yes, I know some wage slaves with certain company phones already suffer this indignity.

Apple has never been about making the most. They focus on making the best. And that applies to their services and the amount of content on it.

I can assure you that:-

Safari browser, Apple Arcade, Apple tv+, Apple TV, iMovie, Pages, numbers, Mac Pros , iCloud, Apple Keychain, and others are NOT the best.

maybe they aimed there, but they failed.

None of these streaming services ever directly create any shows or movies. You understand that right? Streaming services hire show runners and producers who hire the creative teams. Some streaming services have more input than others on production details but it’s not like Netflix or HBO or Apple execs are sitting down to write, direct and edit these shows and movies. They are simply platforms but the platform that makes the best choices in talent and IP is the winner at the end of the day so this is a big win for Apple.
I would make a case for Disney+ being the exception. Yes they have a Marvel team and a Lucasfilm team, but I don't think that a big decision could be made without running it up to the Disney Execs. I truly believe that Moonknight was a heated debate with the Disney bosses.

Great news for the Apple TV+ service. They will continue to evolve in what they offer — but I still think they should focus on serials over feature films.

If you actually loved this movie...you should check out the classic German gem "Jenseits der Stille". Storyline in "Jenseits der Stille" is way more impressive as the hearing child wants to become a musician and somehow tries to communicate her enthusiasm for music to her deaf parents.

Hope you find it somewhere out there...

Congrats to the production team and congrats also to Apple. Not sure why anyone would berate great art being rewarded, and good on Apple for recognising quality. That's what they've always strived to be known for so now they have an Oscar. Credit all round.

I haven't seen this one yet, I did enjoy Don't Look Up though but was surprised it was nominated for an Oscar. I find Apples films to be a mixed bag, some of the shows are good though like For All Mankind.

To add a detail, CODA is in fact the American remake of a French movie , named "La Famille Belier". It was a great hit here in France. The lead actor, Louane, was a young singe whose reputation rocketed thanks to the movie. :)

They had zero to do with the production but it won’t stop fanbois jumping on this as evidence Apple is the best.

I mean the ****ing film already premiered at Sundance before Apple even knew about it.
Filmmakers must stop selling their movies to distributors/streaming services!!!

Let the audience seek them out for themselves as God intended!!!!!

This is the reason I haven’t watched CODA. La Famille Belier was a wonderful movie I have seen (maybe 3-4 times) in Australia. I mostly refuse to watch English (USA) Remakes that commercialise (and often butcher) an idea stolen. I'll always watch the original where I can, and stick to it.
