Crashes constantly. Remote disconnects at random. Apps restart and crash at random. Hard resets, soft resets, and force quits can't remedy much—and even if they do, it only lasts a few minutes, then you're back to crashing again. Screw this pile of garbage.
I haven't had any of those issues. I would call Apple about this problem. I have the Appletv feeding 2 rooms and even with a wall in between I never had a problem.

Which is why we're all screaming about the remote app not working. At least there you could paste stuff in.

Note that you do have 'recent' email addresses for that data.
Yes, the fact that it remembers past emails is nice, but the passwords are the main problem.

I should also mention that setting up apps that use your cable service are different than independent apps. With the cable service apps I have used, you have to go to a website using another device with Internet access and give it your cable sign in info and then enter a code that pops up on the Appletv screen. With independent apps you have to use your username and password to sign in directly on the Appletv.

Right, if Apple required all apps to use the 'code' method it wouldn't be so bad. It's the other ones that kill you. Never mind entering your Apple ID password three or four times if you have a good long one as you should.

Nice to know. I was initially thinking of going for 64gb, but not sure I would actually store content and more than likely stream it. That being said, $50 for double the storage isn't a bad deal. The question is would I even use the extra storage. :(

50$ for 32GB extra is an extremely bad deal! JSYK

I am actually surprised that the major tech sites (Engadget, Verge, Ars, Macrumours itself) didn't jump on the somewhat confusing and disappointing ATV4 launch. Or are marketing dollars at work here ?

In other words... negative articles => no ads

I think it's a safe bet a brand new Remote App will be rolled out sooner rather than later. I for one can understand their reluctance to do day one so that early adopters are kind of forced to use the hardware -- for now...

For me - I could not stand the remote app -- why? Because for example I use some of my current ATV's to stream music to my receivers all around my house. It's totally lame that thru ANY Apple device you can't see a MENU of your Apple TV's and whether it's on your iPad, your MAC, iPhone, etc you should be able to SEE your configurations at any time.

I mean you can configure an Airport Express from a computer - same should go for Apple TV.
I agree with you the app was not great, however the app did let me type in things fast and apply copy and paste to long passwords. The app had a purpose all be it a little gimpy. I would love to see a mirror function for entering your credentials.

The only bone i pick with you is the early adopter bone. I was force to use a sub-par user experience. I have already told everyone in my peer group who was waiting on my review of the product to stay clear and wide of this thing. They lost another 5 or 6 sales cause i did not have a software keyboard to allow a complete user experience. This is a major issue for apple, they need us early adopters to go forth and profess our love of the little box. I can not do that because i could not enter my hulu user name and password in a time that was reasonable.

I was not willing to compromise for Siri being a parlor trick currently.

The only crash I got was with Hulu, it froze. I tried selecting other options and did nothing. I could exit to the home screen but I had to restart the ATV4. It seems it has multitasking like IOS since I could leave the Hulu app and come back to it and it was still frozen.

Anyway the ATV3 had an option that I'm really missing in the ATV4, the video skip. When playing a video I clicked up on the directional pad and I could skip the video by intervals, now it shows a useless info screen (I know what I'm watching, I chose it!). Anyone know how to do it with the new ATV?

Absolutely no issues here with my new Apple TV. Love the new tvOS and all the apps.

I'm experiencing much faster load time for iTunes movies and shows.

The remote takes a little getting used to but it's so much faster than the previous one.

I see a lot of potential with tvOS and I'm looking forward to how it will grow.

How did you use your phone to set up the ATV4? My 6s wouldn't pair.

When I turned the Apple TV on for the first time, it gave me two options for setup... One was using an iOS device. Once I chose that, it told me to put the device close to the Apple TV and after a few minutes, my settings like wifi and whatnot were transferred. Very quick and easy.

This is true... but you still have to enter email addresses and passwords for iCloud, iTunes and some apps. It's a major PITA.

Does anyone know if the apps can be rearranged like on apple tv 3?

I'd like to arrange the home screen grid by channels, games, etc.

Thanks

Did you try closing Hulu before you restarted your ATV? You can double tap the home button to access the app switcher, highlight Hulu in the app switcher and swipe up on the touch pad of the remote. This will force quite the app.

Read the home button shortcuts here:

My thoughts exactly. I was hoping for some improvements with a local library ( the grouping of the shows is my biggest wish ), but there's nothing. I'd settle for quick way of skipping to each letter, something akin to how it works on iOS where you start scrolling down and the alphabet appears. Hopefully, it's something that coming in a future update.

Tis nice, though, and hopefully Apple will build on it, and not let it languish....

Looks like mine will be returned unopened. That was the main driver for me to upgrade. Hey Apple please talk to the existing product owners before designing a replacement. I use 3 ATV2 and 3's in my house for only streaming my library. Trying to sell me from the iTunes store is such an Amazon thing to do.

I bought one this afternoon, set it up. Too bad the first country was Afghanistan. The US is way, way at the bottom. Could not get the Siri Remote to pair immediately. Had to use my gen3 remote. Charged the remote. Then it finally paired. Used my iPad to set up. Took a few minutes. Overall, I will be returning the device. It does not search your local library for moves and media, it keeps going to iTunes store, as if I want to buy what I have already. You need to sign in for each and every app you install, and if your username/passwords are long and complicated, it becomes really really tedious. The alphabet is lined up in one row....a thru z on one line. Siri does not allow you spell your username in at all. That would have been a nice addition. Universal search.....well, if it on iTunes, then yes....anything else on your local drive, nope. I will return it and wait a few months to see if they correct the problems. I have been a fan of apple since the late 70's and was looking forward to this release. Alas, my expectations were a bit too high. Ugh, now to explain the Best Buy why I want to return it..wish me luck.

Loving the new Apple TV so far, but one complaint:
Playlists in Apple music are wrong (missing songs or songs never added in the playlist appear in them)

Apart form that, loving the faster speed, siri is great (would be better with music integration). Hoping for more and better apps soon.

When I use the volume control my audio receiver restarts and this of course blacks out the screen. I am not sure if I have a defective one or if this is related to changes they made. I tried several things and it continues to do this. I purchased from Best Buy on Friday, so I suppose I'll either take back for an exchange or just get a refund an try again down the road when there are more apps.
I changed my Apple TV to use IR for the volume buttons, instead of the HDMI CEC.
It learned the IR pulses to use by pointing my Receiver's remote at it and pushing the volume buttons.

Works great now.

Well, my very first impression is that it's a giant pain in the ass to enter all these passwords. It's been nice since then, nothing too amazing.

Surprised by the number of people still surprised that Siri doesn't search local libraries, given that it has been extensively discussed since before the release. A few people pointed out that it is not technically simple as the search is done in the cloud. But I think the reality is local libraries are much more of a niche audience and we all know that Apple doesn't focus on niche audiences. Lots of people on this forum talk about local libraries all day (and I have one too), but I don't know a single person that keeps a local library outside of these forums. The average person doesn't do it and it is not going to be a focus of Apples, and that shouldn't be too surprising.

I find the universal search to work quite well, it searches multiple services as advertised and it does prioritize free options over iTunes. The one thing I'm suspicious of is when doing a general search (e.g. a genre) I don't see many results for things that are not on iTunes, may be the search is driven from iTunes.

I do hope they update the interface for local libraries as that can't take much effort, but given Plex and other options are now available I'm not sure how critical that is.

I have a couple of Best Buy gift cards and a Reward Zone certificate I would like to use on this instead of paying full cash for it. Which I did yesterday ($212 to be exact). I bought the Siri Remote Loop with it. Now I just want to return and buy it at Best Buy.

So should I just reset ALL settings and then repackage everything to return? I'm heading to the Apple Store anyway.
Yeah....reset to factory defaults and you are good to go.

Seriously!? So the iOS Remote apps don't work, and Apple now forces you to hunt and peck to log into your internet services with the Siri remote!?

The ability to use Bluetooth keyboard was one of the only things that made the TV useable ...
Yup...hunt and peck....and you would think that Apple would have updated their remote app prior to launch.

Does Universal Search work with PLEX? I don't see sense paying Apple via iTunes store for a movie that I already own and have ripped my DVD. I don't think MANY people would. And for something that was extensively discussed it took me 45 minutes with Apple Technical Support to confirm because no-one knew. I'll keep using my ATV2 and 3's if the Universal Search won't search my library.

Universal search doesn't work with Plex right now but Apple said they'd be letting other apps use Siri down the road so it could eventually show you results in Plex.
