Infinite loop here. Charter subscriber, Natgeo’s website says Charter is a participating provider, but Charter not in list to select for activation, click on link to request Charter access, told Charter is already a participant, returned to provider list to choose, Charter not on list, infinite loop.

Hide Natgeo channel since it’s useless. End

This is basically them getting a megaphone and announcing "Hey everyone! We still don't get it."

If I were Apple I'd be refusing to allow anything more on the Apple TV that has this "TV provider" requirement.

Who do you suggest pay to create the content then?

Then you won't get any further content. The studio and network hold all the cards when it comes to TV content. Apple has no leverage here like it did over the music industry.

This is the simple difference. There was a jailbreak on the music industry. There isn't on tv.

The more channels they add the more likely my Apple TV can completely replace my SD set top box in my bedroom. Then I can get HD content without the added equipment cost from my tv provider.

I hate cable providers so much :p

While most can enjoy the fully fledged Nat Geo, CBS and all the goodies in a box, outsides are stuck with only a limited selection of free content available.

This is more like, tickling your taste buds for that good flavor, (Apple's so good at doing that too)

You do know its not the cable companies that are requiring a subscription log in right? Its the networks and studios who want to keep the status quo as it makes them a lot of $$$$$

So how does this really work, then? When you enter your Comcast credentials into the Apple TV, does Comcast start kicking over a few pennies to National Geographic every time you watch content? Why does Comcast have to be involved at all instead of just paying NG directly, or even them running ads?

If only my Apple TV 3 didn't lose the ability to detect wireless networks again or else I would check this out.

Really one has nothing to do with the other. Why don't you deal with your wireless issue with apple or post in a section that would apply to your problem? Thanks. Good luck.

I have the same issue with RCN.

Kind of the other way around. If you have a Comcast package with Nat Geo in it, Comcast is already sending National Geographic a few pennies each month. Since you've proved you paid for it (by using your Comcast credentials), you get to see the "premium" Nat Geo programs on demand.

I myself am actually happy that they added this channel. I regularly watch documentaries and Nat Geo always seems to have the best ones.

I just watched it and it's very good. Great HD quality. Many of the shows I enjoy are now on demand. That's fabulous. It amazes me how some here are berating the channel and they've never even seen how it functions on Apple TV. Are these people so cynical about the world that they immediately hate everything?

Oh, and for those who complain that they have to register, wow, it took me all of a minute to do so on my iPhone while sitting on the couch. Big deal. Certainly not worth complaining about.

Many of "those people complaining" are ones getting stuck in infinite loops on the activation page, even though they're properly following directions and it says their provider is supported. That certainly is worth complaining about.

It's not absurd that a U.S. company caters to U.S. customers first and foremost. I don't complain that BBC or Al Jazeera news don't cover news in my area of the U.S. enough.

It is, if their product is sold worldwide as an Apple TV (as opposed to Apple Media Player or AppleCast - which is pretty much how it is used outside of the U.S. for the lack of channels). Plus, personally, I would like to watch some of the U.S. channels and don't mind paying for it - however, I can't due to regional restrictions, even if I log on with a U.S. account.

And this is why the Apple TV box is unlikely to make a jump into the mainstream outside the US.

No. I retain my previous statement. It isn't absurd if they cater to the U.S. "first and foremost," but it would be absurd to only do so. Point is, they must start somewhere, and everyone and their dog chimes in that they "deserve" to have Apple cater to them, no matter where they are because Apple has made its products available to them.

Just because I can buy ramen from Japan on the Internet, I don't demand they make a biscuits and gravy flavor because I'm from the South.

EDIT: Or better yet, I play the "self-entitled, pseudo-chivalrous" card and say: If the ramen company wants to succeed, they really ought to cater to my needs and whims.

needs more content for the UK and countries other than US only

The Apple TV has been part of Apple's product line-up for 8 years and is no longer the hobby they once claimed. I think it's pretty clear by now it's content is focused towards the home market and they don't have a lot of interest in the needs of their international customers.

I am a cord cutter who has done well without cable for at least the last seven years. An antenna by the window, Netflix and Hulu Plus have served me well. I've been waiting for an update for Apple TV for so long that I bought Fire stick and Sling. Now I have too much, but OK the family is happy.

The one thing I do not want is cable. It is a shady business that has given me more trouble than I need. I don't need their 200 channels.

I read comments that people love their Apple TV, can't wait for the update. What is it that they expecting that is different from my set up.

Very true. When you consider the EU, that has a population of over 500 million (compared to the 321 million in the US), it shows great insularity on Apple's part to solely do deals that apply within the USA. That's a *massive* potential market that is woefully under-served by the apple TV box. I have one, but it is solely used to stream existing iTunes content. Given that Google and Amazon prices for streamed content are comparable to (and often cheaper than) the iTunes equivalent, the Amazon Fire Stick and Google Chromecast are much better offerings as far as I'm concerned.
