Wow. Having to sign in for three different apps is that much of a burden???

Not burden, but needless irritation. Three apps was about my limit; there is plenty of other content sources available that don't add useless friction to the experience. Sure, I'd like to see what some apps have to offer in video content; then again, my Netflix queue is a hundred entries deep so it's easier to just watch what I've already decided I want to watch than to fiddle with entering a bunch of sign-in data (when it should already know) only to get a "meh".

In the UK, the TV Licence fee is £145.50 per household.
However iplayer is currently free for viewing catchup shows.
In the recent announcement that the BBC have to pay for Over 75's TV Licence fee (which currently equates to £650m), The government are putting things in place so that the BBC (or more likely BBC Worldwide) to be able to monetise iPlayer, to counteract the deficit they plan to put upon the BBC, and it's viewers.

Personally I think this is the way to go. Monetise it, and open it up to a global market.
