First episode is alright, lots of game footage from For Honor. It's like Silicon Valley but for the game industry instead.

I didn't take people reflecting on their rapes as whining. Carrell's character was basically whining the entire season until the end when he realized the magnitude of what he had caused, though.

Evidently, spoiler alert: the rape victim wasn't whining, at all. Plus, it is up for debate if it was rape, which was one of the points of the show as well.

Most series I’ve seen so far have been lukewarm, Morning Show, Truth Be Told, Dickinson. The Servant started off strong but went belly up mid-season imho. The Morning Show tried hard to keep workplace issues, politics & scandals in scale and fair on all accounts, but went belly up as well earlier with all the sobbing and whining. Same for Truth Be Told. Too much dragged out drama.

Will give this a go anyway
Not all shows pull it off but as we learn more about the characters, we also care more about why they are "sobbing and whining". The Morning Show pulled this off very well.

So, yet another show from Apple that is not family-friendly! What a major disappointment. Even For All Mankind had to pop in two f-words per episode, without any need! Sigh. Hopefully someone will realise that there is a substantial segment of the audience out there that wants to be able to watch shows without needing to mute or skip - or just not watch at all. Mystic Quest joins See, Truth be Told, The Morning Show and Servant as unsuitable for this family’s viewing. Have we reached the point where immature (foul language, sex/nudity, extreme violence) content it required for a ‘successful’ TV show? It looks like Disney+’s arrival here (Ireland) in late March will be the only way forward....
There are dozens of cable and terrestrial TV networks that cater to your (and FCC) standards and do not include specific words. Every cord cutter I know left those networks for that very reason but they are still around so why are you even spending time on streaming services? These services were created to be the FCC mandated alternative.

god forbid people talk on tv the same way they talk in real life

If I hate It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia am I likely to hate this?

I love The Office, I love Parks and Rec, but 'Sunny' was an entirely different type of show with a different way of approaching humor, and to me (and mazz0, apparently) it's an awful experience. Awful. Out of all the shows I've seen in my 50+ year long life, it's up there as one of the top two or three worst shows I've ever attempted to endure. Seeing people with Sunny associated with this show might then give someone like me legitimate pause.

So, mazz0's question, which is not only fair, but one I'd be interested in hearing the answer to, is: Is this new show similar enough to Sunny that someone who didn't like Sunny might also not like this?

ps. Just because I can't stand Sunny, even a little, doesn't mean I'm trying to convince people they're wrong for enjoying it. It's great that there are things out there for all of us to enjoy.

But what if the people I am around don't talk like that on a regular basis? Which they don’t. I mean honestly I am around nobody that regularly talks like this and only know a few people that do. I was in the Marines and it was pretty constant but in the real world in a normal environment? Nah sorry just don’t hear it much. I agree that it would be nice to watch a show with the kids nearby and not have to hear all the language producers feel like we just have to love hearing. No thanks.

What about Dickinson? Is that not the first Apple TV+ comedy?!

I didn't notice an agenda at all. There are some plot points about men vs women dynamics in the work place but it's deff. not in your face kinda stuff.

The reason so many Pilots are called “pilot” is that the first episode is normally the pitch to a studio with the hope of shopping or getting picked up. That’s why Pilot episodes are so starkly different than subsequent episodes. Sometimes they are produced months in advance to the other episodes because of negotiations and determining budget to fund the entire season. The first episode of The Office is a good example. Or a more current example is Superstore - which had a much different aesthetic than the episodes after.

I know that. I just wish they gave it a real name/title.

It usually depends on which politics are correct for you. Are you looking for married couples who sleep in twin beds? Housewives who wear pearls while vacuuming? It's probably not THAT politically correct.

Very good and humorous show! Also glad Apple isn't pushing all their Apple products, saw multiple non-apple products such as Razer headsets and laptops, as wel as regular (no mac) pc's. Really glad they're not afraid to show other brands in their show, after TMS I was expecting to never see a non-apple product in their shows haha

And here I thought Apple would be the one to get rid of the industry's lazy practice of not giving first episodes real titles once they're picked up for a full season. So disappointed that the first episode is called "Pilot".

I’d call it a tradition more than a lazy practice. It’s an intentional choice

First two episodes watched, loving it! :D

Just a quick question: As an Assassin's Creed player, I swear that I saw AC mentioned/showed like three times in the first episode (Aya kissing Bayek, Leap of Faith in a haystack and a real life hidden blade in a scene) and as I don't know anything about Mythic Quest at all I wonder why the AC references?? what's the connection between the games?
You are spot on. Ubisoft is majorly involved in this show and is definitely happy to use their games as reference points or cinematics for the show. Watch the Ubisoft 2019 IGN press conference for more info.

Another winner for AppleTV+ I'm kinda surprised by the lack of love for a lot of their content...they already have a much better hit rate for me than Netflix or Amazon (and Disney+ is a complete waste after Mandalorian for now). I absolutely loved For All Mankind, The Morning Show and most of Servant (end was kinda weak), and think I'm going to love this series after one episode. Honestly, only disappointment so far is See, which I though would be my favorite one at launch.

I read a review that said it is a very tamed comedy in that regard, and it would work on network TV.
Sadly, not so. I started to watch it and had to stop as soon as the ‘14-year-old’ started spouting f-words. Not family friendly. I’ve no issue with those who want to watch immature content with lots of foul language and the like. I’m just wondering why Apple has chosen to exclude a lot of us with so many family-unfriendly shows. It’s a pity.

I can scroll through Netflix and find plenty of family-friendly fare. Haven’t spent more than a few minutes on Amazon, so I can’t comment on it. Yes, we have dozens of free broadcast channels in Ireland (both over the air and via satellite) but that’s not my point. All of those options, whether streaming or broadcast offer a broad range of programming to suit a broad range of tastes. Apple seems to have aimed for the immature audience sector rather than the broader one. I think it’s a pity. Maybe it will change over time. My 1-year subscription has a long way to go yet. Time will tell.

What "job" does Apple actually have in these ATV+ series? Don't they just buy them? Aren't they the work of someone else?
They watched the pilot and agreed to send it to production. They get credit for having good taste.

That’s funny - people were busy complaining that Apple was too involved in the shows and were making them too dumbed down.

you should read the comments on the previous thread which mentioned that Rob Mcelhenny worked with Apple and bounced ideas off of them and that Apple gave constructive feedback which he greatly appreciated. I was happy to hear that and trusted that meant a good final product but you wouldn’t BELIEVE the naysayers on here arguing otherwise.

Get real.
Netflix had a 13 year streaming head start over Apple and didn't start original programing until 2013 (House of Cards). Until that time they had licensed content.
Amazon had a 14 year streaming head start over Apple and didn't start original programing until 2013 (Amazon Studios).
Apple has what 15, 16 shows available right now? It's been just over 3 months and they have more original shows than Netflix or Amazon started out with in same time frame.
Apple seems to have aimed for the immature audience sector rather than the broader one.
You got it backwards.
The type of shows you are looking for that are family safe are the immature shows.
