I remember seeing somewhere where the writers were saying the entire story arc required 8 seasons. So this is probably a good sign they will get to complete their vision.

I'd love to see Season 4 be in the 2000s with manned missions to Jupiter or Saturn.

I think that if there's an arc that goes from the 60s to present time 2020's, the show can wrap up. But I'd love to see it have established a universe that can then pick up on a spinoff series into the future.

Instead of acquiring an IP like Star Trek, Apple has the potential to have built its own. Imagine how today's world would be if the space race hadn't ended and humans routinely explore the solar system. That alone could be an entire show.

Danny seems like a psychopath in real life too. Not at all impressed, and slightly annoyed with the dog. Never trust a human who doesn't like animals.

This season and the Danny storyline have really turned me off. Is it a great show? I still believe it is, but the writers are trying to develop a villain and all they are succeeding in creating is a sulking, EMO teenager in a man’s body that has tons of responsibilities and everyone’s life in his hands at any given moment. I’m growing to hate him more and more, but not for the reasons that the writers want me to hate him for.

The first season was great, not to sure about the other two seasons. Seems rushed.

I've been reading this sentiment quite a bit but never really shared it as I seem to have a higher opinion of season 2 than most people. However over the past week I've re-watched most of season 1 and I've got to say, yes, it set the bar very high - it's just sooo good. I agree season 2 and 3 can't compare, however I'm still enjoying the series immensely.

Gawd, that last episode. 🥺
Forget sci-fi, this is some of the best TV, period.
The acting, the screenplay, the cinematography, and a storyline that isn’t afraid to pursue any outcome for any character.
This is just incredible television.

I'm still recovering. 🥺
This series is most excellent & I'm sad this season is almost over.
I am sincerely happy that people are enjoying this season and obviously individual likes and dislikes great for variety. I actually thought the last episode was the worst so far. There was certainly a social element to the first 2 seasons, but they've really put it in overdrive this season and that coupled with the unrealistic tech scenarios just makes me cringe. It distracts me too much where I can't get lost in the story.

I'm inclined to agree that the two most recent episodes were the season's weakest.

But as for a distraction… I'm guessing Ron Moore would disagree on that. He didn't set out to create a "what would technology look like in an alt history" show, but rather "what would mankind look like". The space race is important, but in a way, it's really just a catalyst for the generational saga about the Baldwins and Stevenses.

Yeah, I'm probably overanalyzing things in it. However, it's just that some of the ridiculousness is getting worse and more frequent. For example (and I'll try to refrain from spoilers), on one hand they barely have any idea where water might be located on the planet, then we're expected to believe they have the 'lava tube' mapped down to the nanometer for precision explosions. Then there's Kelly's love romp. All of that is absurd... that they fall in love in days/weeks... that they are banging it out in space as if there aren't strict protocols against that... that she is sooooo upset. And her crying? That's good acting?! Oh, and I realize that they are short on bodies and it's all hands on deck, but we're to believe that Danny is sent out on the rescue mission as opposed to being confined after the mess he created? Anything Danny... oh Danny... just not good storytelling and character development there.

So no, it's not just tech unbelievability. It's poor writing, character development, acting etc. Again all IMO!

I'll try to be careful as this is not intended as a personal stab, but people fall in love "in a matter of days and weeks" all the time. Never had a fling? Their connection is amplified by the fact that there is literally no one else in the world (Mars) and they're millions of miles away from Earth.

NASA in this alternate universe is sending civilians on missions. Kelly is not military, she's a civilian and doesn't adhere to strict rules in the same way that NASA test pilots who come from a military background would. Besides, have you met US soldiers? They're famous for shagging fellow soldiers on base and locals during missions, even though it's not permitted. The Russians? Well, we know that in any universe, Russian military aren't known to be very disciplined, hence their fame for getting drunk on vodka on the battlefield – see Ukraine in present world for examples.

As for the lava tubes and water, the landing area was thoroughly mapped from orbit with ground penetrating radar in advance of the landing, as we would/will do in preparation of attempting a first landing. It was the Russians who found the liquid water. Their methods aren't known but we have already found water in our real timeline – just not liquid but the technology exists and would be deployed ahead of and during a human mission to Mars.

Regarding Danny, Ed nor anyone else was aware that Danny was responsible for the explosion. When things blew up, there was no time to assign blame and Danny headed out on his own. After that, Corrado who was the only one who knew what Danny did, was killed in the avalanche.

All of this was shown, explained or logically deduced. It just sounds like you've decided that you don't like the show and weren't paying attention.

It's a sci-fi drama TV show. If there are were no twists, there were no drama (which usually involves a lot of human silliness/unpredictability) and an unrealistically high amount of spectacular space catastrophes the plot would be boring and the show would have a different genre (science education/documentary).

I don't take it personally and I appreciate your insight. Like I said, I am glad many are continuing to enjoy the series this season. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two seasons and it was actually the show that had me maintaining my subscription until S3 was released. Objectively, S3 is different than S1&2. Subjectively, I don't like it as much. Thanks for the points you made though.
