Hey Tim,
We’re getting sick of being overcharged for under-performing and bug-infested devices. We’re disgusted by your total contempt for what the customer wants and for taking for granted that we will always buy Apple.

In my decades of being an Apple customer, I can rarely recall a time where more “Apple fans” have been upset with the company we helped keep in business not that long ago. When your friends start leaving, you’d better see the red flag, because the non-fans can fall fast like the bottom of wet cardboard.
While i saw the show once, I quickly determined it wasn’t my cup of tea.

But when you say we, us, we’re…please don’t include me. Apple will be just fine as it’s proved throughout the years after 2011.

I always thought John was left of center in his politics. Contrary to what some here would think, I agree with some of them. With that said I thought he was misguided on some things, and simply regurgitated far-left talking points in his final season or two at Comedy Central.

There was/is no way the people that run big tech and big government (but I repeat myself) will ever let John speak openly about many hot topics. Just look at how Apple censors their own news and podcast apps and that tells you everything you need to know.

Have you tried For All Mankind? My wife and I love it. With The Expanse cancelled, I think it might be the best ongoing "hard sci-fi" right now.
yes I thought the plot changed too factiously or fict-ist-oly
then I lost interest due to the plat weakening.

I know I am a tough cookie....
but love a good tv series like Killing Eve
which is out of the box sarcastic humor with cut throat vengeance.

I'm betting this gets picked up somewhere else.

Shame on Apple for kowtowing to whatever external forces induced this decision.

I have to choose between the Chinese government or John Stewart? Nah, hard pass.

Concerned not about the show itself, but the topic. It's no different than how some people have apolgized for calling Taiwan a country or how Vietnam got upset and banned the Barbie movie all because of a child-like map. It doesn't take much to upset some people and maybe that's what Apple was worried about.
Could be. Doesn't seem very democratic though, if that's the case.

Part of me was always a little confused about why John Stewart was on the platform to begin with. Apple isn't exactly known to publicly step their foot into politics, as far I'm aware.

I’ve seen Stewart say some incredibly ridiculous and irresponsible things on this show. So who knows what the claims about china were.

But if he was going to correctly point out their human rights abuses, I don’t like Apple trying to block this information, especially as a company that promotes social justice.

We have a few people outraged on an Apple forum, there's no public outcry. Millions of people who would have watched the show will shrug and watch something else that has Timmy's overlord's stamp of approval instead.

And what is the public outcry going to do? Is even one person going to cancel their TV+sub over this, much less switch away from Apple? Muting an information source on behalf of China should be a big deal, but nobody seems to care anymore.
I won’t cancel just because of it, but I really only resubscribe when there’s a free 2-3 months to use?

I think I may have paid for 1 month since launch? (Because I activated a 2-month offer earlier than I should have I may have to pay for a month in order to finish For all Mankind)

But.. This makes that less likely? This makes me more frustrated to have screwed up the most recent free 2 months. The odds that I'll resubscribe when a free month or three isn't available? Slim to none...

I’ll still take advantage of free offers to watch For All Mankind, Silo, Foundation… but I’m now less likely to pay for another month between those opportunities to watch for free... Why pay 12mo/yr for a service that only has three shows I actually enjoy? And at this point, why reward bad behavior?

I’ve got racecar stuff to spend that money on (tickets, motorsports streaming services, etc)

I think this is the core of the issue. The issues are the same, but this production just had a completely joyless vibe that did not make me want to sit and watch.
It just felt like something I'd watch because I "should" be watching. Something like Daily Show or John Oliver or Sam Bee, I find myself watching because it's fun to watch, it's fun to get fired up with. And while I'm not a fan, I think for his audience Bill Maher does much the same thing. There's a good reason this format exists. Not to say The Problem with Jon Stewart should not exist, but I personally just didn't find myself compelled to keep watching. I suspect that -- critical applause aside -- maybe others were feeling the same way.

The dicey China tie gets more news than it ever would have on Jon Stewart's show. I'm sure if USA could produce the requisite number of manufacturing engineers and parts suppliers, Apple would love to make the devices here. As it is, I think this points up the current state of China rising and repressing than it does anything about Apple. Jon Stewart deserves kudos for walking away and the fact that he can take the show somewhere else -- at least so far -- is a good thing to be celebrated.🍸🐈

anyone else never really liked one TV show besides me?
they all have a mundane factor and never go the extra step.
Anyway, moving on!
There's been a ton of great stuff on ATV. Personally:

Foundation=the entire series is the extra step, right down to the official podcast
Severance=great fun (though admittedly it took a while to get there)
After Party=in a similar realm as Only Murders In the Building but in many ways better (each episode spoofs a different movie genre),
For All Mankind=Brilliantly executed
Ted Lasso=I mean, Roy Kent FTW
Shrinking=really well done
HiJack=nonstop ride
Bad Sisters=sleeper hit

Granted there is some stuff on there that just didn't click with me (Silo, for one) but overall the quality has been solid, and so much better than services such as Amazon, Max, and Hulu backing up the truck and dumping crap into the feed in hopes something sticks.

AppleTV+ is the pinnacle of mediocrity. I've watched a number of their shows and none of them stands out.

I've been torturing myself with Invasion. I was going to give up, but then the awful crying girl was abducted, so we didn't have to deal with her epic bad acting and fake crying, making the show a bit more tolerable. The show is so ridiculously bad, though. The idea that this invasion happened four months ago...but now there's a world government and massive structures have been built in the Amazon and in a corn field. The Movement leader calls pre-invasion times "the before time". Really??? In four months???!!! 🤯 If this is what Hollywood writers are cranking out these days, bring on ChatGPT! Apple really scrapes the bottom of the barrel.

I recently finished Foundation season 2. Just awful. I was disappointed by the first season, but I found it interesting enough to continue with season 2. If they even make a season 3, I won't be watching. I watched the first season of For All Mankind when it was released and found it formulaic and dull. I didn't care what happened to a single character. They were all unlikeable and unbelievable, especially the main guy. I didn't buy anything he was selling emotionally, especially the story arc with his son. Completely unbelievable.

Apple should get out of content. They aren't adding any value. They are just sullying their brand with a mediocre service that very few people watch. How many people do you think actually pay for Apple TV+ once the Apple One subscriptions are filtered out? My guess is, almost all Apple TV+ subscriptions are Apple One subscribers. Apple is wasting billions of dollars every year on this ego project and it's a bad look. Steve Jobs never launched a record label and the reasons are obvious.

This particular situation with John Stewart and China is the best example yet of why Apple should stay focused on building great tech and services, but leave the content to others. They look like hypocrites, prattling endlessly about values only to respond with "How high?" when China says "Jump". I've been an Apple customer for over 40 years and have a deep love for the (old) Apple. Even though I still love the products, this new Apple is pretty hard to like, much less love.

It was only a matter of time.
Jon Stewart tells it like it is; I’m surprised it lasted this long on Apple’s platform, to be honest.

He’ll find a new platform, and I’ll be there for it.

Edit: Tells it like it is, as-in he doesn’t pull punches or shy away from asking questions, not that I think everything he says is 100% accurate.

My favorite show on Apple TV by far. Looking forward to season four’s debut next month. Season two of Foundation was very good. I’m a little bit on the fence with season two of Invasion, but the first season of Silo was good.

You should try Invasion, it's the first alien invasion show I've watched where the characters are so poorly written and annoying that you want the aliens to destroy the planet and everyone on it. Especially Aneesha.

LEEEEWWWWWWWWK SAHRAAAAAAAA

Though I guess this isn't necessarily liking the show so much as wish fulfillment
