Well, at least with soccer half the game isn't spent watching a player adjust his gloves, his helmet, his elbow guard, spit, scratch his balls, and check his email before every pitch. In contrast, the action is nearly constant in soccer.
Yeah... "action"... Just a bunch of guys kicking a ball back and forth. Not what I consider exciting. Maybe if they added a shot clock to the game so at least there is something to watch. With baseball every pitch is a chance to score or advance a runner. Sure there are moments in-between the action in baseball, but that's what makes it more exciting to watch than soccer, because of the contrast. The constant running back and forth is just so much of the same thing the whole game... yawn...

The most important thing for all the Americas Continent would be unifying Conmebol (South American football association) and Concacaf (North American football association):

1) It would create a spectacular international club competition, to rival the UEFA Champions League. It would generate a lot of investment and business for a supercharged Americas Libertadores Cup: Teams from Brazilian league, Argentinian League, Mexican League, MLS (USA) League, etc.

2) Unifying Copa America and Gold Cup in a Supercharged Copa America. A spectacular international national teams competition, similar to the 2016 Copa America, but with more teams.

3) If we don’t do this now, UEFA (European football association) will be a monopoly.

4) There would be more Americas teams in the World Cup, And the World Cup qualification would be super fun

You may be right BUT I hope this small step will open the door to other leagues as well.
From a guy in Argentina, who is tied to 720p DirecTV transmissions, watching football in 4k will be a blessing (even the MLS).

Every pitch is a chance to score? But it isn’t. Good pitchers intentionally put balls where they’re unplayable to try and get a batter to chase and miss. Every pass, or kick as you’ve put it, is a chance to score too - except they aren’t. They’re chess pieces being moved to culminate in a goal. Like playing small ball in baseball, singles can lead to a scoring run - but not every single will score. To someone who simply writes off a single, it’s “the same thing the whole game… yawn…” they’re missing the entire point of playing the game, the mental aspect, the strategy, and perhaps should only watch the home run derby every year.

Apple says that the deal is a "historic first" for a major professional sports league, and it will last through 2032. In an effort to ramp up its sports offerings, Apple has already established a deal with Major League Baseball, and rumors suggest that it is pursuing the National Football League's Sunday Ticket package.
This all means few things:

  1. Apple is going get the NFL Sunday Ticket package. Innovative company like Apple is too hard to pass up on. Apple getting this aggressive in sports package means they are going “thermonuclear” in sports business. ESPN and FOX Sports and Turner wont like this. (Especially if they attempt to get exclusive NBA package or even MLB package in near future)
  2. Expect a MASSIVE Apple TV hardware announcement at fall entertainment keynote. (The iPhone 14 keynote). If Apple is going to invest in this much sports, people are going to want a beefier hardware that can do 8K output for razor sharp quality, and with industrial rumors swirling about new hardware, it’s pretty much a given that next Apple TV is going to be charged up. Most likely Apple will ditch the A series chip for M series chip on Apple TV to make this possible. (In fact, I think keynote might be themed around 8K, with iPhone 14 Pro most likely getting 8K filming, and USB-C, finally making the device perfect for pros)
Apple TV ain’t hobby for Apple anymore. They are getting serious, both in service
AND in hardware.

This is a pretty funny rebuttal.
"Ya, all these other sports have boring moments, but this one is the boringest because they run too much."

Cool. This is a North American league. If the US or Canada do well in FIFA World Cup, MLS will be a premier league in the world.

I seriously don’t understand the need for pushing back on others’ preferences about sports. I mean, all sports have their strategies, tactics, history, challenges etc.
Husain Bolt simply runs straight for 8 to 10
seconds. Yet, seeing run him was exciting. Soccer has its exciting moments. Baseball has its exciting moments. Cricket does too.

well it could be worse, they could have picked baseball
MLB out-earns the NBA, NCAA football and every other sport not named the NFL in the US. So no... MLS is not a better choice for Apple.

But hey... at least it's more popular (in the US) than hockey, right?

Son ... Of ... A .. Biscuit! Of course the 1 sport I enjoy. Crazier is I spent 10 seconds contemplating subscribing to Apple TV+ but still not worth it ..

So far they have soccer and some baseball. Here is to hoping they pick literally ANY of the sports I actually watch. Like football, basketball, or hockey.

On a positive note I think this is a sweet move and I only complain slightly because I hate paying for YouTube TV...

Won't happen as there are WAY too many matches in a regular season in some of the nations domestic leagues. Now imagine trying to coordinate international matches in between.

Good start. Now get NFL Sunday Ticket and I'll be happy. Especially if the Dolphins make the playoffs while I'm still alive. I miss the 70s.
Actually, Apple should bid on getting the NFL RedZone rights. THAT would be something I'd pay an extra US$5/month more for during the NFL regular season.

But getting back on topic, what Apple did may open the door for someone to bid on the rights of an entire professional league, like NWSL women's soccer or MLL lacrosse, to be streaming only.

Extremely likely that NWSL will move to Apple TV+ also after current deal ends.

Wonder what the cost will be. The statement to ESPN said some matches will be available to Apple TV+ subscribers so I am assuming MLS will be an additional fee. Any idea on the amount? I am assuming Sunday ticket will be an additional charge too.

Sadly MLS is around the 5th or 6th league in the Americas in terms of quality, the Mexican, Argentinian, Brazilian & Colombian leagues coming first IMHO. Surely for American viewers that root for a home team the MLS might have an additional appeal, but what would really put Apple TV+ in the map regarding football would be to have continental championships such as the Concacaf, Libertadores, UEFA CL & EL, etc...
And the World Cup in November.
