I'm having the same issue however my tv is an 70 inch Vizio P series tv (P702ui-B3) and my Apple Tv can turn the tv on and adjust the volume however it cannot turn the tv off. Also the auto off feature doesn't really seem to be working for me either as it can take 30 minutes or more for it to show "No Signal" and even then if often doesn't turn off in ten minutes.

I also have a PS4 and Onkyo TX-NR636 and practically the same issue where those devices can turn the tv on but they cannot turn the tv OFF.

Vizio has publicly stated they fully support all CEC features: https://twitter.com/VIZIOsupport/status/662645032898416640 however their customer service/tech support has practically said everything but the fact they support it.

From researching it appears some Vizio Models have no issues. Almost everyone with a P series however ONLY has an issue with powering off via CEC. I've also emailed tech support and they suggested to call which as stated truly got me no where for the time being. If you do call the reps in South Dakota seem to be more knowledgable versus some other places (they state their location when they answer the call).

I've also personally contacted them on Twitter (the above link was not me) and I received some DM's and they stated it should work and would look into it however I'm not holding my breath.

I've also submitted feedback to apple. Even though this isn't an Apple issue from my testing I've seen situations where Apple has proactively contacted other companies to ensure devices work well. One example is I know from an Asus rep who releases beta firmware onto one of their forums has acknowledged they've worked with Apple regarding iOS WiFi issues in the last year.

So my two cents is to reach out to both companies both written and via phone because when I called in not a single person with Vizio had heard of this nor even knew it was possible to turn a tv off via CEC.

Does everyone want to post their TV make and model, and if your CEC Turns ON/OFF/ON AND OFF, so we can get a list going for other members on the forum?

Mine turns off when i put the ATV4 to sleep (I'm not sure if it turns it on though, I'll check that when I get home later)

Panasonic Viera UT-50 (50 in) + ATV 4

LG65EF9500 Turns on but not off. (Apple TV connected to Marantz receiver connected to LG TV)

Vizio 70 inch P Series
P702ui-B3
Will Turn TV on
Will Adjust TV Volume
Doesn't Turn TV OFF

Samsung Smart TV. Apple TV turns it on and off fine once I enabled the setting in the TV's menu. There's is a separate setting to allow devices to turn the TV on and off. Now the TV shuts off when I put the ATV to sleep and turns on when I wake it up.

Do you have the model?

I read on Twitter that the Vizio E series does in fact work as expected. There's a new update coming out for Vizio Tv's which is 1.3.15-UHD but there's no formal release notes and they send out updates in batches in case there's something that messes up a lot of TV's so it could be a week or two before we even receive that update and zero guarantees that it will address this issue.

Im thinking we should all pester Vizio, if they get enough demand they will put it in an update.

Oh I've called four times and just did a chat. Was told they were sorry they don't guarantee full support for CEC despite them publicly stating they FULLY support it
https://twitter.com/VIZIOsupport/status/662645032898416640

So we went around in circles for about 20 minutes. Explained how the E series worked but my $2,000 TV didn't. Explained how they state they fully support it and she kept saying they didn't.

Ultimately she offered to "Submit Feedback" for a feature request to which I replied Vizio already said they publicly stated they fully supported it and the chat ended.

EDIT:
My point was everyone who is affected by this definitely should have a case opened however be aware of the issues you'll run into with reps.

I'm having the same problem with my new LG 65UF8500 and ATV4. ATV4 will turn on the LG TV but it will not turn off.

Reading the LG Simplink setting there's a slight nuance in the verbiage:
"With Auto Power Sync selected, your TV will be turned on when you turn on a SIMPLINK device and your SIMPLINK devices will be turned off when you turn off your TV."

It's subtle, but I read this as them saying that the SIMPLINK devices (aka ATV4) will not turn off the TV but the TV will turn off the ATV4 and receiver (which it does).

My system is behaving correctly when I read the setting as stated but it's not behaving correctly based on what I expect. I'm guessing the CEC interoperability standard is not quite a standard yet (which may explain why every manufacture calls it something different, why most devices come out of the box with it disabled and why it's not marketed on the box).

Remove your receiver, connect only your Apple TV and it'll start working correctly. It's got nothing to do with the branding of cec. It's just that that tv manufacturers like LG and Vizio are lazy and never really tested the cec function.

Dealing with the TV customer service made me realize how Apple has spoiled us. They are even worse than cable cs reps. I spent 15 mins arguing with a LG rep that HDMI cec is not a new type of cable, before I realized the futility of it and gave up.

I have a Samsung (LN46A650A) and a Yamaha receiver (RX-V371).

Turning on the AppleTV and everything is fine. TV and receiver come on everything goes to the correct input.

Turning off the AppleTV and things don't go as well. The receiver turns off, the TV switches to the antenna/cable input (or whatever it is) then the receiver turns back on and switches to AV5 input. It's weird.

Turning the TV off switches everything off properly.

I end up using more remotes with this setup then I did with the AppleTV 3 and a universal remote.

I've tried a thousand different settings in every combination possible. Only thing I haven't tried is disconnect my Wii (remember those?) from the component connectors, although it doesn't switch to that input with its strange behavior.

LG 65" UF8500

Apple TV is NOT plugged into HDMI-CEC (which is the only port with ARC) as I need that for my home theater blu ray system.

Apple TV turns the TV on, but does not turn it off. ATV also turns the home theater on and off. Annoying that I have to fish out the TV remote just to turn it back off when I'm done.

Mine works like this as well. Plus the TV remote will control the Apple TV 4 too. Samsung UN60JU6500

LG Ec9300 OLED. Apple tv turns on and off the TV. What is annoying is when I put the apple tv to sleep while I'm using a different input, it will still turn the tv off!

I have a samsung LN52A650 plugged into my Marantz AV receiver. With CEC turned on on both the TV and Receiver, I get the same behavior that you do. Turning on AppleTV works well, but Turning Off results in some strange behavior — TV stays on and changes to cable/antenna input. So, what I've ended up doing is turning off the CEC on the TV, but leaving it on on my receiver and AppleTV. I just use the universal remote to turn TV on and off, and then AppleTV controls the receiver inputs and volume properly. I wish the TV would respond to CEC Power Off commands properly, but I just can't get it to do that.

My Vizio TV has a option to power off if no signal in 10 minutes. This solved the problem for that TV.

Yeah, I have to experiment with it some more. I feel like it ALMOST works too.

I could go back to the universal remote but then I lose out on the Siri remote features.

Regardless I need to do something because I'll fall asleep watching TV and wake up to some weird stuff, like everything is off except the TV which is displaying static, I didnt think that was even possible until now.

Be really cool if Apple could somehow improve compatibility although I don't think this is possible being its a standard.

my issue is not the TV, apple remote turns on and off my Samsung TV, but it will turn off and on my Samsung sound bar, I go to ATV4 setting and have it learn the sound bar remote but it will not interact with it

I have a E-Series Vizio and just set up my 4th gen  TV today. How do I set it up where I can turn on/off TV with Siri remote and switch inputs as well?

My ATV4 seems to be able to turn on my TV when I wake it with the remote. But it doesn't turn off the TV when I put it to sleep. Is this the case with everyone else?
